Visiting Researcher fellowships, Internships Abroad, organization of international meetings (workshops, summer schools, etc.), São Paulo Advanced Schools (SPSAS), OVERHEADS from research grants and scholarships, and others.

2) International Partnerships (over 180 signed Cooperation Agreements)

FAPESP’s Grants, Programs and Scholarships (Obs.: Most FAPESP grants and fellowships include funds and overheads to be used for international collaboration) • Fellowship for researchers (BPE): support SP scientists to stay from one month to one year in qualified research institutions abroad. Funding covers fellowships and travel expenses: 224 awarded in 2017 (www.fapesp.br/2429);

• Research Fellowship for Internships Abroad (BEPE): offers to all FAPESP fellowship holders the opportunity to spend from 4 to 12 months as research interns in foreign high profile research centers, working in a theme associated to the research project the candidate is developing in São Paulo: 904 awarded in 2017 (www.fapesp.br/en/6811);

• Participation in international scientific meetings: 312 awarded in 2017 (www.fapesp.br/177); • Visiting Researchers: support foreign scientists stays in SP. Funding covers travel expenses and stipends for 2 weeks up to 12 months: 159 awarded in 2017 (www.fapesp.br/en/6659); • São Paulo Schools of Advanced Science (SPSAS): Periodic Call for Proposals for short duration curses with world- class lecturers bringing up to 100 undergrad and grad students from SP and abroad - 9 in 2017 (www.fapesp.br/en/5986)

• Post-doctoral fellowships (711 new awards in 2017) – Three to five years duration for Brazilian or foreign fellows. – Support for moving and installation and Travel for awardee and his family, plus 15% for research incidentals

(travel, small equip.) and scholarship (BEPE) for up to 1 year stay abroad (www.fapesp.br/en/postdoc).

• Young Investigator Awards (50 new awards in 2017) – Targets researchers with 3-5 years post-doctoral experience outside Brazil, open to Brazilians and non-Brazilians;

4-years grant, extendable for 1 more year; – Typical budgets from US$200k to US$ 2million and may include travel expenses and installation, equipment,

consumables and fellowships for students. (www.fapesp.br/en/yia).

• São Paulo Excellence Chairs (“SPEC” - 9 new awards in 2017) – For top level scientists from abroad to stabilish and coordinate a full Thematic Research grant in São Paulo; must

stay at least 12 non-consecutive weeks per year in SP for a 3 to 5 years grant; – Eligible items for funding include schollarships in selected levels, Post-doctoral feellowships, research equipment,

consumables, field trips, travel to and from the host institution for each period of stay (see below), and other items (www.bv.fapesp.br/en/286).
