CODES OF PRACTISE & REGULATION GRID
COPYRIGHT
WHAT IS COPYRIGHT LAW? HOW DID YOU KEEP TO COPYRIGHT LAW IN
THE AUDIO AND VISUAL ELEMENTS OF
YOUR PRODUCTION? Copyright law gives people the right to own their
‘invention’ which comes down to their original idea,
once someone owns a copyright it gives them the
power to be able to have control over their
property. Once this right is enforced, it will be
against the law for anyone to take advantage of the
owners property ‘without permission’ however the
owner can make an decision to allow the use of their
property determine on the circumstances.
I was not able to keep to the copyright law for my
production because I did not get a written response
to my offered permission, but I have still used the
artist song for my music video as it was the only
song I preferred. I was also unable to keep to the
copyright law visually within my music video one of
my actors at ….. has the well know Jordan shoes
which is seen in my music video however is not on
full show. The appurtenance of an IPhone is seen
frequently within my music video as well which is
another copyright law that is broken, this copyright
law is owned by apple in which I did not get
permission from, all of the brands owners shown in
my music video can see this as a way of
advertisement or they cannot like the fact it
associated with my product and will have the right
to fine me or even make sure that my music video
gets deleted off of YouTube.
OFCOM
OFCOM REGULATION DESCRIBE THE PARTS OF THE
CODE RELEVANT TO MUSIC
VIDEO PRODUCTION
HOW DID YOU KEEP TO IT IN
YOUR PRODUCTION?
PROTECTING UNDER 18s
The regulations for protecting
under 18s is mainly no sexual
content and no offensive
language these two laws have a
big effect on music video as they
have to be aware of what is
shown within their music video
before 9:00pm or after 5:30am, if
the under 18 regulations is not
taken into account then the music
video can be banned from being
shown on TV.
Within my music video I was able
to keep to the under 18s
regulation, there is no sense of
sexual images or even visuals that
will effect the minds of children,
however when it come to audio
there is a few offensive languages
that would have to beeped out or
changed if it was to be shown on
TV.
HARM AND OFFENCE (Violence, dangerous behaviour,
and suicide) are the three main
thins that are to be taken into
account when broadcasting a
programme on television this is
also a way of protecting under
18’s, however there may be an
In my music video there is no
visual that show any sign of harm
and offence so because of this I
have kept to the harm and
offence rule, which means my
music video will be able to be
played without having to be
liability if it is justified.
hidden from the under 18
viewers.
CRIME The crime regulation is simple
which is that programmes should
not show material that will
encourage crime in any sense, this
has a big effect on music video’s
in mainly genres of grime/urban
video as crime and violence is
mainly shown in these type of
music video, this regulation has a
big impact on music video as
content that they may of wanted
to show to add to the song will
have to be re-thought about as
certain material can not be
shown.
In my music video I stuck to the
crime regulation as there were no
material that will encourage
crime, this means that it wold be
suitable for any age to watch
making my music video able to be
broadcasted on any channel at
any time this is an advantage for
music video as it increases the
availability and awareness.
FAIRNESS This rule is given to television to
make sure that there is fairness
within broadcasting such as the
individuals and organisations
within the programme
I was not able to stick to the
fairness within my music video as
I did not directly contact the
individuals and organisations
shown in my music video, which
you see the appearances of at …..
PRIVACY This rule is looked upon the
privacy of individuals that may be
affect by the music video made,
this is a follow up from fairness as
they are different from the other
regulation, they are not for what
the public eye see’s but for the
individuals that the producers will
have to directly contact to
reassure that the privacy of the
individual is not being vandalised
This rule was not met in my music
video as I did not as a producer of
the music video contact everyone
individual that is seen in my music
video, as there are footages in my
music video where you see the
public within the background but
are not meant to be the main
focus, because I did not directly
contact everyone that is seen in
my music video I was not able to
stick to the rule, as we see
members of the public at …
INSURANCE
TYPE OF INSURANCE DESCRIBE WHAT THE TYPE
OF INSURANCE COVERS
HOW WOULD IT HAVE
AFFECTED YOUR
PRODUCTION
MANAGEMENT?
PUBLIC LIABILITY Public liability insurance is to
cover the cost of any accidental
damage to the public, for example
an employee that had injury
within a company can claim
money from them, so having
public liability insurance is to
make sure that they will have
money to pay. Producer of a
music video will have to make
sure that they have4 public
liability as anyone can get hurt
during the making of the music
Public liability would have had an
huge effect on my production
because I did not have insurance
to cover accidental injury to the
public which force me to be aware
of the equipment and the people
around it, and it also limited the
creativity within shots so as we
had to be on the safe side.
video e.g. tripping over
equipment
COMPLETION This is an life insurance which is
dealt with between the same
payment between individuals
within a company.
This could have had an effect on
my production as I was not
covered with insurance, which
could of ….
