Introduction

Costumes, Props and Location all have crucial aspects with in a documentary of representations to the viewer. The costume warn can show things such as, the what the subject will or has been doing or even symbols for what they believe in. Props can be used as symbols to show what the subject is doing or gives good visuals to the viewer about what the object has been used for and why, and location can show give the viewer greater understanding about the topic being discussed through visuals.

Costume An example of a costume being used with in a popular documentary is with in Louis

Theroux documentary with in the Miami mega jail, the convicts all wear a uniform that distinguish them as prisoners of this prison, this allows the viewers to know that the interviewee has broke the law and they are hearing of a real inmate of the prison making the information they are giving more solid. With in the documentary that we will be creating we will use football kits as a costume as our documentary genre is sport and is going to based around football, this allows the viewer to identify the activity that the actor in our documentary will be taking part in because of the symbol of the kit hooking in general sport and football fans. Although most athletes will be seen performing in their kit but during interviews if outside on the training ground mostly sports wear will be worn e.g. tracksuits and if the interview is taken indoor I would prefer the interviewee will be dressed formally.

Props Props with in a documentary can be crucial to explain situations to viewers

through visuals, giving viewers insights into the activity that you are taking part in and making your documentary more interesting for the viewer to watch. An example of a prop being used with in a documentary is in a historical documentary showing a weapon to give the viewer a chance to see the weapons used in this generation, how they would have been used and how much damage they would of done to the person. As our documentary is of the sporting genre our props will be based more around activity and as we a focusing football specifically the prop of a football will be used a lot to show activity and the topic we are talking about during our documentary.

Location The location can show to the viewer a lot of historical content of the topic you are talk about

and can also give them a lot of information on what you are explaining through visuals. An example of how location can be used in a documentaries is shown in ‘The man behind the goals’ a sporting documentary on Rooney as the documentary is set on Rooney breaking the record of goals for England some of it is set in the football ground of Wembley where Rooney would of scored a number of these goals. With in our documentary we will use a number of football pitches and sporting areas to show the viewer the topic we are speaking about. Photos below also show a football ground with in our local radius which may be used with in our documentary. The Ricoh arena is a state the art stadium holding a capacity of 32,000 with in the ground and having a jaguar exhibition hall and a casino with in it. It was built in 2005-2006 originally because it was believed that Coventry city the team playing in the ground were going to make their way into the top league of English football, since then a number of financial problems and debates have led the sky blues back and forth from the Ricoh and the ground is currently owed by Wasps rugby team although it is still shared with boys in sky blue.
