The benefactor is the character that usually helps the victims of the film try and survive. They are usually of elderly age and much more mature, some can both survive and die within the film.

  • First GirlSorority RowHalloween Friday the 13th ScreamThe sexually active girl is another conventional character, she is usually the first one to die just before she beings the act of intercourse. The usual features of this character are; blonde, very attractive, white and usually large breasted. She can be seen as a binary opposite of the final girl, as many of their characteristics collide with opposition.

Common features of this character is; big build, usually mentally or physically deformed and face is always covered. The reason the face is always covered in because when seen by any audience they are scared because they dont know what is behind it, as individual people are scared of different things the masks covers what the audience may think is there greatest fear.

  • LocationSorority RowScreamHalloween Friday the 13th Location of slasher films are usually isolated areas, for instance the suburbs, a sorority house and a lake house. This emphasises to the reader that the group of teens are trapped, as the location is isolated.

  • Film NoirFilm Noir is a cinematic style which was used and very popular in Hollywood crime dramas. Its visual style was influenced by German Expressionism, as they both share characteristics such as; Low levels of lighting, use of shadows and in black and white. Film Noir was most popular between the 1940s and 1950s; its main message conveyed the fact that no one could be trusted. As America was fighting communism during that time, it can be guessed that this had an effect on the messages Film Noir films, conveyed.
