• Reports to/advises Council and Senate on:
Policy recommendations
Regular monitoring reports
Policies regarding any particular funders of research
Review/amendment of Codes of Practice for Research Conduct and Research Misconduct
• Approves or recommends procedures for the approval and monitoring of research activities in academic departments and research ethics sub-committees
• Receives regular reports from the research ethics sub-committees of their approval and monitoring of research activities
• A final body of appeal and decision on any research governance, ethics or conduct matter

Research Misconduct
• What is Research Misconduct?
• Try to resolve informally
• If not go into formal confidential process
• Formal process has three stages:
- Preliminary Investigation
- Initial Enquiry Panel
- Formal Investigation
• Outcome may be no finding of RM, training required or disciplinary procedures including for malicious or vexatious claims

• University responded to Consultation • Sets out 5 commitments for assuring high standards and
integrity in research• Researchers, Employers of Researchers, Funders of Research• Signatories include: DfEL, HEFCE, NIHR, RCUK, UUK,
Wellcome Trust• Compliance, or working towards compliance, a condition of
HEFCE Grant 2013-14• Confirm in annual assurance statement• Russell Group working together
