Audience AnalysisAfter conducting the surveys, I found that people were more interested in watching movies about suspense, mystery, and action. None of them were interested in comedy or romance which only benefits us because our film is a suspenseful thriller. Audience analysis is extremely vital when creating anything meant to be sold to the public and our analysis helped to encourage the production of our movie opening being that it belongs to a genre that is typically popular amongst the public.

Notes On Film Openings“The Loft”

● Opening shot of unclear rainy night, extreme close up on car side panel

● Music is suspenseful, dark, and creates growing tension and sense of expectancy for audience.

● Effective non-diegetic sound used to amplify intensity of scenes. Diegetic sound also used but mostly in dialogue. The intenser the conversation the more intense the music playing behind it.

● Extreme canted close up shots used during some dialogue.

● Long and medium shots used to show location● Dark, dreary colors help to set the mood and tone

of the scene. Light colors reveal more as the scene progresses and helps in shifting between past and present.

Notes On Film Openings“Chloe”

● Non-diegetic music playing: alternative, comforting, subconsciously creates a level of expectancy. Narration occurs over music, also non-diegetic. Voice is of woman in scene, soft and somber, alluring

● Cross-fades, graphic matching, and canted angles used in beginning. Long shots establish setting and medium shots paired with close ups used to see emotion and follow flow of dialogue .

● Dark shades of black turn swifty to lighter, less intense colors.

● Diegetic sounds like cars and dialogue add to the scene

Notes On Film Openings“IT (2017)”

● Non-diegetic music playing: eerie and soft, makes audience uneasy.

● Colors create and match mood of scene: dreary, dark, raining, gray.

● Extreme close ups showing actions being done. Panning helps with showing establishing shot.

● Choice of yellow makes character stand out● Dialogue is apart of the diegetic sounds,

along with rain, folding of paper, running in rain.

● Extreme close ups and eyeline match used to help with flow of conversation.

Conclusion- Film Openings● While all three films fall under the genre of suspense, It was more horror than “The Loft”

and “Chloe”.● All film openings utilize a combination of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. The music

used as a part of the non-diegetic sound had similarities in the sense that they helped in setting up the mood of the (beginning) of the movie. Levels of intensity vary between the three films due to this.

● Colors used in “The Loft” and “It” are similar as they both start off very dark and dreary , rain is also utilized in both, but as the films progress, there is a stronger parallel between “The Loft” and “Chloe” as the colors become much brighter and change as the scene changes.

● Action progresses quicker in “The Loft” and “It” as they both start off with some form of flashbacks, while “Chloe” seems to be more consistent in being present

Which Film Company Would Produce Our Film? The company that would produce my film is New Line Cinema. There are more companies that would fit our needs but we felt that this company is the best for us. We feel that our film would be right for this company because of the others films they produced through the years. New Line Cinema produced films such as: “A Nightmare On Elm Street” (1984), “IT” (2017), “The Conjuring” (2013), “Freddy vs. Jason” (2003), “The Mask” (1994) and etc. These few films carried me to the idea to have New Line Cinema to produce my film.
