Activities of CARIE to promote the interests of its Members

• Meetings with Planning Bureau, RPF Director, ex. Financial Minister, General Audit Officer, ex. Minister of Commerce & industry, several parliament members, 3 Presidential Candidates etc.

• Tight Collaboration and Several meetings with Technology Sector in Ministry of Commerce Tourism for the Design and Development of Innovation Programs for 2012-2013 and for 2014 - 2020

WHAT SHALL BE DONE TO BOOST RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTIVITIES IN CYPRUS

• Bottom Up Approach by RPF and Planning Bureau – Lessons can be learned from MCIT• Results from FP7 shows that SMEs are 2nd in Europe. New vision and plan shall be

established for promoting and assisting the High-Tech Enterprises in participating in Research and Innovation Programs in FP8.

• Change R&D Expenditure Target to at least 2% of GDP for 2020. Can be achieved by:• Allocation of at least 250 Million Euro for Innovation Activities from the Budget of

Structural / Cohesion funds for 2014-2020 • Tax Incentives will assist to increase by 0.5 -1% of R&D Expenditure (Not currently

declared by enterprises) • Key to Success is the Development of Local Business & Innovation Centers to

Support Innovative Enterprises and build a new era in Innovation for economy growth• Support and Upgrade the Technology Sector in MCIT • Enterprise Members and Associations should participate in all Policy and Scientific

Committees that are related to Research and Innovation (Currently there is no participations).

• New Government should Implement a New Research and Innovation Strategy including the Restructuring and Support of all relevant policy, funding and promotion organisations i.e. Planning Bureau, Technology Sector in MCIT, RPF etc.
