E- Mail: <[email protected]>; www.lifesavingindia.org MEDIA RELEASE For immediate release – 21/07/2011 ‘Rescue India 2011’ National Pool Lifesaving Championships Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India), RLSS (I), has been spearheading a movement which educates the masses on the need to be safe on land and in water. Lifesaving Sports are unique, since they are the only sports in which the skills are first learnt for the humanitarian purpose of saving a life and only then applied to competitions in a swimming pool or in the ocean. Lifesaving sports are meant to promote the concept of lifesaving amongst the youth and involve them into the lifesaving movement. To further this cause and promote lifesaving as a sport in India, the Society has been organising ‘Rescue India’ National Lifesaving Championships since 2002 in different parts of the country. The ‘9th National Lifesaving Sport Championships ‘Rescue India 2011’ shall be held Thiruvananthapuram, from 26 th -30 th Aug 2011. This sports event, held annually to enhance lifesaving skills in a sporting environment, is being organised by the Kerala Branch of the Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India). The events will take place at the newly constructed Vembayam Swimming Pool, Pirappancode, a village in the Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala, which has a rich history of churning out State and National swimming champions. ‘Rescue India 2011’ will comprise the following events: Obstacle Swim - 200m Obstacle Swim - 100m Obstacle Swim - 50m Manikin Carry - 25m Manikin Carry - 50m Manikin Carry with Fins - 50m Manikin Carry with Fins - 100m Manikin Tow with Fins - 50m Manikin Tow with Fins - 100m Rescue Medley - 100m Super Lifesaver - 200m Line Throw 4 x 25 Manikin Carry with Fins Relay 4 x 25 Manikin Relay 4 x 50 Medley Relay 4 x 50 Obstacle Relay Apart from the above pool events, the Beach Events will be held on a selection trial basis, to select Indian teams to take part in the China Life Saving Tournament 18 to 24 September 2011 in Ningbo city of Zhejiang Province in China, RLSS Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 2011 to be held at Durban, South Africa from 27 th September to 1 st October 2011 and also the 1 st South Asian Beach Games being held at Hambantota, Sri Lanka from 8 th to 14 th October 2011.

‘Rescue India 2011’ National Pool Lifesaving Championships

• 4 x 50 Medley Relay

• 4 x 50 Obstacle Relay

The ‘Rescue India 2011’ National Pool Life Saving Championships have the approval of the

International Lifesaving Federation and Royal Life Saving Society (Commonwealth). The

International Life Saving Federation is officially recognised and affiliated to the International

Olympic Committee for the conduct of lifesaving sports internationally.

Participation in large numbers by athletes will ensure that ‘Rescue India 2011’ becomes a grand

success and helps increase the enthusiasm in Lifesaving Sports. We therefore request you to
