PCEP Requirements for OTN

The optical LSP in OTN is sensitive to optical impairments

especially for high peed services, e.g. 40G/100G

Additional information needs to be provided in PCEP when PCE is used:

FEC (forwarding Error Coding) Modulation format BER (Bit Error Ratio)

Scenario1: PCC specifies modulation/FEC

(1) Client1 requests a 40G eth service to Client2 over OTN transport network(2) Node A (PCC) sends PCReq to PCE , specifying a Pre-FEC BER value(3) PCE returns the calculate d results to PCC, including the actual BER value

Pre-FEC BER value consists of:required BER value (determined by modulation/rate)Margin for optical impairments (PMD/OSNR/NLPS)Margin for future use
