REQUIREMENTS FOR GIVING NOTICE OF MARRIAGE OR CIVIL PARTNERSHIP AT TOWER HAMLETS REGISTER OFFICE ONLY ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS ARE ACCEPTED VALID PASSPORT PROOF OF ADDRESS. Two proofs of address are required for each person. Joint details are only acceptable on one document with one other POA for each from the following list: Council tax statement - Utility bill** Bank statement - NHS medical card Driving licence **mobile phone, BT statements and "unsolicited mail" are unacceptable For those persons who are visiting the UK in the short term, either stamps within Passports or boarding passes may be produced as evidence of entry into the UK from non EA countries. However, a letter from the householder and a council tax statement / utility bill from that person confirming their residence may also be accepted. Certificate of no-impediment in regards to overseas ceremonies. Full information and place of marriage details are required for both parties, but above documents relate to British subject(s) only. All documents MUST be current. Bank statements/utility bills MUST be dated within the last three months. Photocopies, scanned documents and online statements will not be accepted. £35.00 each - in cash, cheque or card payment. Notices to be given in the district where you live morning walk in service available for Tower Hamlets residents. Appointments are required for the afternoon. Early & later appointments are also available for notices of marriage and civil partnership. Call us on 020 7364 7880 to book an appointment. Change of name documents (if applicable) If you have been through any form of marriage or civil partnership previously in this or any other country, then you will also need to provide evidence of how that marriage or civil partnership ended i.e. Decree Absolute, death certificate, marriage certificate, dissolution document. All documents must be original and have an English translation where appropriate. Please note that if your previous marriage or civil partnership was not dissolved through a court in the United Kingdom, then the registration officer may have to refer your case to the team of experts at the General Register Office. If you have booked a date for your marriage or civil partnership, then this date is purely provisional and may need to be changed. Consent is required for anyone under 18 years of age. (forms are available from this office). Parties must have minimum of 9 full days residence (22 days for marriage abroad) An interpreter should attend with parties if required. Your interpreter is required to provide current proof of identification and MUST be over the age of 18. Notices periods are between 15 or 21 clear days depending on where the marriage or civil partnership ceremony will take place. Authorities are then issued (subject to office hours) to allow the ceremony to be conducted. IMPORTANT: Please note that from 2 nd March 2015, the notice period will be 28 days for EEA- nationals and 70 days for non-EEA nationals.
