    THE EPISTLE. Romans 8. 31.

RETHREN: What shall we then say to thesethings? If God be for us, who can be against us?

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up

for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give usall things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge ofGod's elect? It is God that justifieth; who is he thatcondemneth? It is Christ that died, yea, rather, that isrisen again, who is even at the right hand of God, whoalso maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate usfrom the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress,or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, orsword? Nay, in all these things we are more thanconquerors through him that loved us. For I am

persuaded, that neither death, nor life; nor angels, norprincipalities, nor powers; nor things present, northings to come; nor height, nor depth; nor any othercreature, shall be able to separate us from the love ofGod, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    THE LESSON. Revelation 21. 1.

N THOSE DAYS: I [John] saw a new heaven and a

new earth: for the first heaven and the first earthwere passed away; and there was no more sea. And IJohn saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming downfrom God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adornedfor her husband. And I heard a great voice out ofheaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is withmen, and he will dwell with them, and they shall behis people, and God himself shall be with them, andbe their God. And God shall wipe away all tears fromtheir eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither

sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any morepain: for the former things are passed away. And hethat sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make allthings new. And he said unto me, Write: for thesewords are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It isdone. I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and theEnd. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain

    THE LESSON. Wisdom 3. 1.

HE souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,and there shall no torment touch them. In the

sight of the unwise they seemed to die; and theirdeparture is taken for misery, and their going from usto be utter destruction; but they are in peace. Forthough they be punished in the sight of men, yet istheir hope full of immortality. And having been a littlechastened, they shall be greatly rewarded; for Godproved them and found them worthy for himself. As

gold in the furnace hath he tried them, and receivedthem as a burnt-offering. And in the time of theirvisitation they shall shine, and run to and fro likesparks among the stubble; they shall judge the nationsand have dominion over peoples, and their Lord shallreign for ever and ever.

    FOR A CHILD

The following Mass is said for children who die before they cometo years of discretion; that is, normally, under eight years of age.

At a Mass for a child departed, the church bells should be rung

The Altar is vested in a white frontal; the coffincovered with a white pall and a cross (and, if desired, a wreath ofnatural sweet-smelling flowers laid thereon). The processionalcross is carried without its staff, symbolizing the shortness of thelittle life, now ended, its pilgrimage being finished almost as soonas begun, and that the little one was not called to bear its cross inthe world.

    RECEPTION OF THE BODY

The Priest (and Sacred Ministers) vested in white, meets the bodyat the church door. There he may recite the following Psalm:

    Psalm 23.Dominus regit me.

HE LORD is my shepherd; / therefore can I lacknothing.

He shall feed me in a green pasture, / and lead meforth beside the waters of comfort.

He shall restore my soul, / and bring me forth in thepaths of righteousness, for his Names sake.

Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadowof death, I will fear no evil; / for thou art with me; thyrod and thy staff comfort me.

Thou shalt prepare a table before me in the presenceof them that trouble me; / thou hast anointed my headwith oil, and my cup shall be full.

Surely thy loving-kindness and mercy shall followme all the days of my life; / and I will dwell in thehouse of the LORD for ever.

    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, / and to theHoly Ghost;

1 The earth is the LORDs, and all that therein is; /the compass of the world, and they that dwell therein.

2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, / andestablished it upon the floods.

3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? / orwho shall stand in his holy place?

4 Even he that hath clean hands, and a pureheart; / and that hath not lift up his mind unto vanity, nor sworn to deceive his neighbour.

5 He shall receive a blessing from the LORD , / andrighteousness from the God of his salvation.

6 This is the generation of them that seek him; /even of them that seek thy face, O God of Jacob.

10 Who is the King of glory? / even the L ORD ofhosts, he is the King of glory.
