THE LITURGY OF THE WORDIsaiah 25.6–9A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare    a feast of rich food for all peoples,a banquet of aged wine—    the best of meats and the finest of wines.On this ”mountain he will destroy    the shroud that enfolds all peoples,the sheet that covers all nations;    he will swallow up death forever.The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears    from all faces;he will remove his people’s disgrace    from all the earth.The Lord has spoken.9 In that day they will say,“Surely this is our God;    we trusted in him, and he saved us.This is the Lord, we trusted in him;    let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.1 The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want;

He makes me down to lieIn pastures green; he leadeth me

The quiet waters by.

2 My soul he doth restore again,And me to walk doth make

Within the paths of righteousness,E’en for his own name’s sake.

3 Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale,Yet will I fear no ill:

For thou art with me, and thy rodAnd staff me comfort still.

4 My table thou hast furnishèdIn presence of my foes;

My head thou dost with oil anoint,And my cup overflows.

5 Goodness and mercy all my lifeShall surely follow me;

And in God’s house for evermoreMy dwelling-place shall be.

The NT LESSON Romans 8.26–39A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans.

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen

Page 6: REQUIEM MASS - stmaryspetworth.weebly.com  · Web viewLamb of God, you take away the sins. of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away. the sins of the world, grant

? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

THE GOSPEL READING The Lord be with youAnd also with youThe gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to JohnGlory to you, O Lord. Gospel John 6:51-58

Jesus said to the Jews:‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;and the bread that I shall give is my flesh,for the life of the world.’Then the Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied:‘I tell you most solemnly,if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,you will not have life in you.Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my bloodhas eternal life,and I shall raise him up on the last day.For my flesh is real foodand my blood is real drink.He who eats my flesh and drinks my bloodlives in me

and I live in him.As I, who am sent by the living Father,myself draw life from the Father,so whoever eats me will draw life from me.This is the bread come down from heaven;not like the bread our ancestors ate:they are dead,but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’This is the gospel of the Lord.Praise to you, O Christ. At the end

This is the gospel of the Lord.Praise to you, O Christ.
