    Chapter 1: General notes

    Frequency bands

    S 2.1 (Article S2 of RR) The radio spectrum shall be subdivided into nine frequency bands, which shall be designated by progressive whole numbers in accordance with the following table. As the unit of frequency is the hertz (Hz), frequencies shall be expressed: - in kilohertz (kHz), up to and including 3 000 kHz; - in megahertz (MHz), above 3 MHz, up to and including 3 000 MHz; - in gigahertz (GHz), above 3 GHz, up to and including 3 000 GHz. However, where adherence to these provisions would introduce serious difficulties, for example in connection with the notification and registration of frequencies, the lists of frequencies and related matters, reasonable departures may be made.

    Note 1: Band number N extends from 0.3 10N Hz to 3 10N Hz. Note 2: Prefix k = kilo (103), M = mega (106), G = giga (109).

    In communications between administrations and ITU, no names, symbols or abbreviations should be used for the various frequency bands other than those specified in No. S2.1.

    Regions and Area For the allocation of frequencies the world has been divided into three Regions as shown on the following map The Republic of Kosova includes in Region 1.

    EXPLANATORY NOTES TO THE TABLE The heading of this table includes five columns, with the following contents: Column 1: Frequency Band & RR Region 1 Allocations and relevant footnotes

    Indicates the frequency band referred to in that row of the table Contains in each frequency band: - Current RR Article S5 allocations which correspond to Region 1. - Current RR Article S5 footnotes

    See Annex 5 for description of RR Article S5 footnotes. Column2: European Common Allocation (ECA)

    Contains in each frequency band: - Allocations of major use or major interest in CEPT member countries expected beyond 2009. - RR Art. S5 footnotes affecting a major number of CEPT countries beyond 2009. - EU footnotes (see Chapter 4 for description of footnotes).

    Column 3: Kosovo Allocation

    - Contains in each frequency band: - Allocations of major use or major interest in CEPT member countries expected beyond 2009. - RR Art. S5 footnotes affecting a major number of CEPT countries beyond 2009. - EU footnotes (see Chapter 4 for description of footnotes).

    Column 4: Major utilisation

    This column includes where appropriate in each frequency band and for the services allocated in the European Common Allocation:

    - The major uses in CEPT member countries expected beyond 2009. - Mention of systems expected to be in use in a major number of CEPT member countries beyond the year 2009. Mention of specific utilisations of a given service does not preclude the use of other services mentioned in the European

    Common Allocation.

    Column 5: ECC/ERC& ETSI documents

    This column indicates where appropriate in each frequency band: - Mention of relevant ERC Decisions and/or ERC Recommendations approved by the ECC/ERC. - This column contains information about the relevant European standards - see Annex 4.

    Column 6 Notes

    - Where applicable, the date of entry into force of: a) a specific allocation of the European Common Allocation column. b) ERC Decision / ERC Recommendation mentioned in the utilisations column. c) major utilisation contained in the utilisation column. d) Any other relevant information such as the nature of use of a major utilisation.

    In respect of defence systems two terms are used with the associated definitions:

    1) Common military tuning range:- A common military tuning range is normally a recommended tuning range for radio equipment operating across harmonised military bands. Such a tuning range forms the basis for planning of future military equipment procurement. 2) Harmonised military band:- A frequency band which is in general military use in Europe and identified for military utilisation in the European Common Allocation Table (ECA). Such a frequency band forms a basis for military use and planning. The band can be shared between civil and military users according to national requirements and legislation. 3) The frequency bands allocated to IMC will be the issue of agreement between TRA and IMC.
