Representations

Charles Skoulding

• My media magazine represents youth as in contrast to possible media stereotypes.

• As you can see from the front cover image, there is little to no emotion on the focal image.

• Stereotypically, a lot of teenagers who read this magazine are more interested in the music than the personal lives of the celebrities, so I have tried to represent my magazine and the people in my magazine as music focused.

• I think that my representation of youth is stereotypical in my magazine.

• In the magazine, there are things such as easy guitar lessons, band interviews and reviews. This backs up the stereotype of young people of the genre that I am looking at at being into that genre.

• The way I have explored age in this magazine is shown by the fact that I have intorudced a beginners guide section. This assumes that the audience is young and possibly naïve.

• Also, my feature compeition will draw in teens who are stereotypically interested in that sort of thing around that age.

• Colours, fonts and pages in my magazine are varying. The feminine coloured front cover has also appealing aspects to males due to the representation of a female on the front cover and the use of masculine red and blue colours. On the double page spread, while remaining neutral I have explored language and used popular terms or slang in my article. This appeals to younger generations.
