Since we met last, in Santiago last June, our IELA year has been both hectic andmemorable. It’s been a truly remarkable yearwith change taking centre stage.We have a new Board,with three new Boardmembers and a newchairman. We have newleaders for The OpsClub and Organisersand a brand new IELAReport – and isn’t itgreat? The new lookReport gives us our firsttaste of our newexecutive, the mostrecent and most criticaladdition to IELA. Saying goodbye toour friends in Brussels was a difficulttask. They helped us transition IELAinto a professionally run associationwith a hard business agenda. I thankthem for that.

The selection of our new executivesharpens the Board focus on growingIELA and delivering improvements tothe members and our industry. Thenew IELA Report is a first, simple, buthighly visible step. There will be manymore to come as Trevor, Declan andthe team work with us on the excitingchallenges of our 2010 strategic plan,The Brussels Roadmap.

While we’ve been setting up thenew executive, we’ve been busy withother important business. As you willsee elsewhere we’ve taken the firststeps towards a Far East chapter ofIELA. To support this we are takingthe Winter Seminar to the region nextyear. The clincher for this decisionwas the fantastic success of this year’sseminar in Zurich in January. Achim

Lotzwick pulled out all ofthe stops and delivered agreat event with a terrificset of students. Anyonespending time with thatamazing group wouldsee instantly thetremendous merit insupporting the seminar. I know I shall definitelybe sending staffmembers again nextyear. Saddle up Achim!

A constant thread running throughIELA is the spirit of family andtogetherness. Nothing encompassesthis more than the touching andgenerous response of our membersto the appalling Tsunami tragedy. The story and pictures of IELA’scommunity project in southern Indiaspeak volumes for our associationand our fantastic members. We canbe rightly proud.

The next chance for the IELA familyto meet again will be in Melbourne. Iknow that Bob Moore, with valuablesupport from Ron Koehler, will give usa great congress. I am lookingforward to seeing you all there, tohaving some fun - and doing good business.

Event Services Network is a new companyformed by Trevor Foley who for ten yearshas developed the UK’s Association ofExhibition Organisers from 65 members intothe Events Industry Alliance, a formidablegroup of four associations totaling 400+members. Working with the IELA Broad ofManagement to implement its vision, theaim of every single thing we do will be toadd value to your IELA membership.

Our Number 1 priority is to grow thenumber and quality of events andinteractions, starting with the Congress andThe Ops Club, in order to facilitate betterbusiness networking. We aim also to growthe membership, increasing the networking‘pool’. High on the list is to find out justwhat UFI want from IELA in order to achievepreferred supplier status for IELA members,a real and tangible reason to be an IELAmember. We will increase the profile of IELAand its members through PR and otheractivities as well. There is much to do.

We have made a start as you can see fromthis Report. The website is also now updated

with a major re-development in thepipeline..... watch this space. Behind thescenes we have already streamlined themembership application process and willshortly issue a White Paper to stimulatediscussion and debate on the wholemembership subject. We have also looked atthe Articles and By-Laws proposing amendsthat will better equip IELA to serve you itsmembers, rather than the ‘association’ itself.The legal structure too is being evaluated.

These are not just words. We willcontinually update you on achievements inthese and other areas. But what are theother areas? Well, you tell us! What do youwant in terms of information, networking,research, training, promotion etc etc

We will work hard for you and withyou.... all we ask is that the communicationis two-way.

It is our objective to move IELA to a newlevel that delights IELA’s founders, drives theagenda with and for the Board ofManagement and most importantly, deliversfor you the member!

REHABILITATION PROJECT GO!

The annual meeting of the IELASeniors Club took place from19th to 21st October 2007 inAvignon. Set in southern France,Avignon is a fascinating,medieval town, whose history isstill visible in its ancient wallsand buildings, not forgetting ofcourse its famous bridge.

In keeping with the historicaltheme of the town, the IELASeniors Club stayed in an oldmonastery, renowned today as afirst-class hotel named “LePrieure”. Already on the firstevening the participants had lotsof news to catch up on and very

quickly the IELA-spirit could befelt, which we’re sure ourChairman Phil Powell, who wasalso present, can confirm.

The special highlight of themeeting was certainly the tour ofChateau Neuf du Pape and thesampling of a range of superbwines. The blend of history,culture and excellent wining anddining, together with therekindling of old IELA-friendships all made animportant contribution to thesuccess of this reunion. All

participants were unanimous,that these annual meetings mustbe continued and the IELASeniors Club is now setting itssights on finding an interestingcity in the Alsace area for its get-together in 2008.

The IELA Seniors Club wouldlike to sincerely thank allsponsors, who helped to makethis event possible.

SENIORS CLUB

The Confederation of IndianIndustry (CII) has launched long-term rehabilitation measures forthe Tsunami victims in TamilNadu and Pondicherry and haspartnered with IELA to launch aCitizen Information Centre atMGR Thittu Village, CuddaloreDistrict, constructed at a cost ofRs.12.5 lakhs (US$31,000).

The Centre will be used forconducting coaching classes forschool children, panchayatmeetings; Self Help Grouptraining programmes as well associal functions and was formallyhanded over to the PanchayatLeader on 6th December.

Speaking at the openingceremony, Mr M M Patelrepresenting CII PuducherryState Council said this was aclassic example of how theprivate sector can play a critical

role in building sustainable socialpartnership for long-termbenefits to the affected people. He said that the CICconstructed by IELA would helpthe Tsunami affected people inaddressing specific capacitybuilding measures.

IELA has been offered theopportunity to identify a

candidate for future industry leadershipby the IAEE President, Steven Hacker.The IAEE Robert L. Krakoff FutureLeaders Institute, sponsored by ICATExpo was created to find, train andsupport those who are thought to betomorrow’s industry leaders.

In 2007, IAEE revitalized the Institutebringing 30 future leaders and 10 alumnitogether for a three-day program ofhighly interactive curriculum thatallowed them to learn more aboutthemselves and leave capable of boththinking better and doing better.

UFI CORNERThe 74th UFI Annual Congress was held inVersailles at the end of October last yearattracting a record breaking audience of 430participants from 54 countries. The four daycongress saw a variety of outside expertsdiscuss the exhibition media for the future.Speakers included Prof. Dr. Oliver Klante ofthe Hamburg School of Business; PhilGoodman CEO of Generation TransitionalMarketing, San Diego; Jacques Attali, politicalStrategist, writer and President of the Pla NetFinance, amongst others.

A unique Think Tank feature preceeding theCongress brought together major CEOs fromaround the world to brainstorm key industryissues. Outgoing UFI President, Jochen Wittmoderated the brainstorming which focusedon the opportunity and threats facing theexhibition industry. The major conclusion wasthat trade fairs would continue to be the mainleading marketing tool for business aroundthe world and that the industry is globalisingat great speed.

There were also simultaneously Board ofDirectors and Associations Committee

meetings which were attended by our pastChairman, Ravinder Sethi and during hisspeech to the General Assembly, as also in theBoard meeting, Jochen Witt mentioned hispresence in Santiago and acknowledged theclose relationship between UFI and IELA.

A final note is that Cliff Wallace becomesthe first President of UFI from a venueoperating company (Hong Kong Conventionand Exhibition Centre) and the first from Asia.

AUMA FORECASTHans-Joachim Boekstegers newChairman of AUMA. Hans-JoachimBoekstegers (52), Managing Director ofMULTIVAC, Wolfertschwenden/Allgäu,was elected new Chairman of AUMA on6th November 2007. On 1st January2008, he took over from Thomas H.Hagen, member of the Executive Boardof Demag Cranes AG, Düsseldorf, who has chairedAUMA since 2004.

THE BEST PIECE OFADVICE I WAS EVER GIVENCharlie Dobbie, Schenker NEC’s unlikely multi-tongued charmer, gave me a great piece of advicemany years ago when I was a young exhibitionforwarder. “Laddie,” he said “do whatever youneed to do to get the freight out of customs.” He went to regale me with stories of sharing earlymorning vodka in Russia and eating snakes heads inChina in the 1960s when the world was a muchsmaller place.

I remembered his wise words and was working atFIDAE in Santiago in the early 1990s, my first trip toSouth America, when I put his words into action.After a morning banging my head against a brickwall at Chilean customs, I decided to take thebroking agent we were using for a long lunch. MySpanish was very good at the time and we got onwell. People who know me know how I like to eat,so unhesitatingly I suggested that he order lunch….It was my first and last experience of sea urchin.What appeared was what I can only describe as aplate of slugs, but I did what I had to do.

The next day as I waited with Roger Walker, TWI’sAndoni and the others, the freight began to appear.Schenker’s, Schenker’s, Schenker’s, Schenker’s, all ofmy shipments were released and delivered beforeanyone else’s. Maybe beginners luck, but I like tothink it was my gritted teeth ‘enjoyment’ of thelocal delicacy, Erizo!

In January I had the privilege of attending IELA’s Winter Seminar for thefirst time as a speaker. I must admit that I approached the event withsome trepidation. I was unsure of the expectations of the audiencebecause I had an hour to present the basics of a topic which has takenmany of us years to understand. We were asking groups of 8-10strangers from across the globe to communicate with each other,research questions to a case study, and prepare a short, formalpresentation with their findings.

Not only did each of the three groups succeed in completing theirprojects, but they did so in a spectacular fashion that was interestingand educational for the entire audience. I was overwhelmed and proudof their efforts, energy, and enthusiasm.

In fact, the entire Winter Seminar was equally stimulating. Thestudents approached each segment with a keen interest in learningmore about our business, each other’s regions of the world, and mostimportantly that IELA members must work together to provide a highlevel of service worldwide.

The seminar as a whole was well organized and truly focused on theneeds of the students. Even routine topics such as insurance coverageand the history of IELA were lively and interactive presentations.

IELA members who sent a student to Zurich in January have alreadybegun to benefit from their investment. The students initiated key businessrelationships that will continue to benefit their companies. IELA memberswho take advantage of this educational resource for staff members gain acompetitive edge in our industry’s ever-changing landscape.

MEETINGS BUDGETS UP 27%, ATTENDANCE UP 19%Meetings professionals expect healthyattendance and budget increases in thecoming year, despite general pessimism overglobal economic performance, according toFutureWatch 2008, the market trends studyfor the global meetings and events planningindustry. The sixth-annual international study,conducted by Meeting ProfessionalsInternational (MPI) and sponsored byAmerican Express, surveyed 1,643 meetingand event professionals and suppliers fromaround the world, the largest response everto a FutureWatch study.

Overall, meetings and events professionalsexpect a 19% rise in attendances in 2008. Thefinding was matched by a prediction thatinterest in webcasts and other web-basedtools for live meetings will also rise, withoutdisplacing the strategic value of face-to-facemeetings. “These findings are yet further

evidence that there’s no substitute for liveevent marketing,” says Bruce MacMillan,president and chief executive of MPI. “Thisstudy shows that while events and meetingsprofessionals are embracing technology, itsgreater role is in enhancing events, notreplacing them,” he concludes.

Among its major findings, FutureWatch2008 also found the following:Budget growth predicted despiteworldwide economic concernsAmong its economic findings, FutureWatchfound all respondents expressed concernabout an economic downturn in 2008.Despite this perception, corporate plannersremain bullish on budget expectations,predicting a 27% rise in 2008. A furtherindication of the growing recognition ofthe value of meetings and events in theprivate sector.

Rapid move towards globalisation was expectedFutureWatch respondents expect theirindustry to globalise rapidly in the comingyear. Around 20% expect their organisationsto extend their global reach in 2008,compared to less than 1% who see adecrease in globalisation.Suppliers and independent planners mayface talent shortagesThis year’s study found that talent shortagesare roughly twice as important for suppliersand independent planners as they are forcorporate and association planners,suggesting that concern over the ability tohire and retain qualified employees isgradually permeating the industry.In a related issue, less than one-fifth ofmeetings business is expected to beoutsourced in 2008, but that total will still represent a 14% increase in volume.The industry is going greenFutureWatch also found that interest inenvironmental sustainability has notbypassed the meeting planning industry. A growing number of professionals, 19%overall, list conservation and environmentalconcerns among the top three trendsaffecting their work.

WITH THE EXPERIENCE FROMPREVIOUS WINTER SEMINARS,the unique character of theevent was carried onward to this 2008-edition. The classroomsessions as well as the socialgatherings again sparked thespecial spirit which makes the IELA Winter Seminar so unmatched.

The addition of new elementscreated more networkingopportunities and, at the sametime, increased the quality of theeducational program.

As in previous years, the firstevening was a copy of how IELA runs the annual congress.An informal Cocktail Receptionwas an ideal platform to meeteverybody and to break theice among participants. Thisprocess of everybody meetingeverybody was continued thenext morning, when a speed

dating session was the structure to a series of face-to-face discussions.

What followed next was astretch of demanding classroomsessions from Thursday untilSaturday. History of IELA,Application of Tariffs, Insurance,Customer Service, IELAStandards, Export Agent andDomestic Agent were the topicsof presentations, all of themdelivered in a highly interactiveformat to allow as much studentparticipation as possible. Ahighlight of the educationalsessions was an excursionaround Zurich Fairground with athorough look at the logisticalenvironment of this importantexhibition site.

A Customs Workshopprovided an in depth-exploration into customs issuesin the USA, in Europe and China.

Group Work on three differentcase studies, carried out by theparticipants of the seminar inadvance of their arrival in Zurich,proved to be a valuableintroduction into the subject,and at the same time made forsome extensive networking evenbefore personal meetings tookplace in Zurich.

presentations were conductedby Representatives of IELAMember Companies who spendtheir own time and money tomake an appearance at thisTraining Event. For four of thesespeakers this required overseastravel from the USA and fromHong Kong. IELA is very muchalive when members involvethemselves so heavily in theAssociations projects. Specialthanks also go to the GuestSpeakers, who considered IELAimportant enough to take a partin our project and who deliveredexciting views from inside theTrade Fair Industry.

A Final Exam at the end of theWinter Seminar concluded threedays of intensive learning. Withthe best score of all students,Eva Kutka of Schenker AustraliaPty Ltd. won the Best StudentAward which carries an invitation

to the next IELA Congress. Forsomebody living in Australia, itdidn’t seem much of a prize,being invited to Melbourne, sobefore it became a real calamity,IELA offered Eva to attend the2009 Congress in Londoninstead and she was happy toaccept this choice. Well doneEva, great achievement, and seeyou in London!

It's a long time agothat I've seen such bright eyesand smiling faces after they allhave seen so much snow. Wespent a wonderful sunny day onthe mountain with a snowballfight, sledging down the hill(murderous) and having fun atall. For the lunch we could usethe Wintergarden of theBergrestaurant Laucheren andenjoyed the wonderful skyline ofthe Swiss mountains.

After a real fast IELAsledge race (beautiful) we hada last small break with "applestrudel/vanilla". Thereafter asmall part of the group gotdown the hill with our sledgesand the rest took the last chairlift down the hill at 4.30 p.m.We had a quite quiet returnjourney on the bus arrivingback in Zurich at 7.15pm.

The proof for the successof The Winter Seminar wasdelivered by a FeedbackQuestionaire which wasanswered by all students.The questions focused on thetargets of the event: toprovide an educationallearning experience and toprovide a platform for

networking among students.By application of the familiarIELA scale from 1 – 7 (1 =very poor / 7 = very good),the following key gradeswere determined:

6.75 for the Social Spirit

Recently, I had aconversation with a US basedTrade Fair Organizer – wehave a 15 year relationship.Although this Organizer’sprimary sales responsibility wasfor one overseas venue, a newopportunity for bothpromotion and careeradvancement presented itselfin another country.

Also, his new positionrequired him to generatebusiness for multiple worldwide venues.

During the past 15 years, ourmany meetings andconversations always includedreference to IELA. It’s a greattopic to discuss during a visitwith an Organizer -- who, what,where and why of IELA. IELA,among many issues, alwaysseemed, logically, to be anecessary and appropriatesubject of discussion as part of our business relationship and activity.

Why not? It’s an advantage topoint out, and be part of, asingular Association. I need notremind you, IELA members as agroup, without comparison,offer, worldwide, a reliable,professional brand of exhibitionlogistic service. We do this withthe uniform quality, andaccountability necessary to anysuccessful Trade Fair. We alsodo this consistently. Howconsistent and effective? OurStandards Committee providesobjective, measurabledocumentation every year to letus know. Importantly, we canpoint this out to any Organizer.

So, when we discussed hisnew ventures and venues, I wasnot surprised when he asked,”Are there IELA companiesinvolved with these Fairs andvenues?” IELA COMPANIES!Think about that. That question

implies, well…. ‘Branding -- aTrade Mark of sorts’.

In essence, the mission of theOrganizer Committee isrecognition. Our committeeactivity, along with all of ourmembers, is directed toprompting and producing therecognition that brands an IELAmember as a “Preferred ServiceProvider”. As with my friend of15 years, we’d like to see everyTrade Fair Organizer considerthe question: “Are IELAmembers providing exhibitionlogistics services for the Fair?”Obviously, this kind of“Branding” means business forIELA Members. But, let’s notdelay the ”Branding”: thesooner the better (Certainly notfor 15 years!). We want it NOW.

So, recognizing ourimmediate needs, we spoke of“Linkage” in the lastNewsletter. By linking the IELAWeb site to as many otherpertinent industry Web sites,we’re achieving quick, cost-effective recognition. And,since the last newsletter, we’vemade significant progress withthis. A comprehensive reportwill be offered in Melbourne tocite our new “linkage” partners.

The Organizer Committeecontinues to be supported byreliable and accomplishedmembers. Now, we are excitedabout our new members whowill share in our progress. So, Iwelcome our new friends to theCommittee: Sungim Lee/ Kemi-Lee, South Korea; SueliMonthila/ Nazha & Darwish,Syria; Leann Harrison/UniGroup Worldwide USA;Marcelo Paradela, WaiverLogistics, Brazil; Elaine Wong/Baltrans-Hong Kong.

(Of course, this should gowithout saying, we welcometotal IELA member

participation and contributionto the committee whether“officially” on the committee ornot. Any member can assist andhelp.Any member’scontribution can createbusiness for our Association)

PROJECT: STAYING INTOUCHNow that the committee is re-structured and we haveidentified “Linkage” as onestrategy, we have developed anew project: STAYING INTOUCH. We’ve identified atarget list of over 100 IndustryOrganizations/Associations.We’ve developed a generic“approach form letter” toestablish contact, request aWeb site link, and “Stay InTouch” with these industryplayers. This plan will requireminimal effort to initiate. I will ask our committeemembers, and others, to assist with the contacts whereappropriate. Results will bediscussed in Melbourne.

Finally, I’m sincerely excitedand eager to work with ournew Secretariat, Event ServicesNetwork. Both Trevor Foleyand Declan Gane bring awealth of industry experience.No doubt, their expertise willboth enhance and intelligentlyassist our efforts. I’m sure,given their knowledge andback ground, this new alliancewill definitely accelerate IELA’sprominence and recognition inour industry. Their presencemarks a decided renewal inIELA’s efforts to continue toevolve as the premierInternational ExhibitionLogistics Association. In anycase, there will be morediscussion of this in Melbourne.Until then I hope to see all ofyou there!

Welcome everyone to theStandards Committee Report,the first for 2008. The firstthing is to take this opportunityto thank all of those membersthat completed the StandardsSurveys. This year has seen apleasing increase on thenumbers of surveys completedand consequently I hope animprovement in the results toeach member. This of coursecan be improved upon as there are still many membersthat have declined to completethe surveys, which is verydisappointing.

We are now in theunfortunate position of havingto fine those companies thatdid not complete surveys butthis is what was agreed by themembership in Santiago.

Hans Brauchli continues tomonitor the survey results ofeach member with the brief tocontact those companiesperforming below par andencourage them to improvetheir service and improve theoverall image of IELA. I amhoping Hans will have a reportfor us in Melbourne so that wecan see the extent to which we

are all performing. It will beinteresting to see if we as anassociation have a problemwith the quality of ourmembership and what wedecide to do about this. InMelbourne we will have achance to seriously debate anyissues and procedures andmake decisions on how to takethis matter forward.

The MembershipCommittee has been workingvery hard over the pastmonths sending outapplications to potentialmembers, reviewingapplications for membership,following up with potentialmembers and also discussionson name changes and currentmember status.

In our January 2008 Board ofManagement meeting, wediscussed the potentialmembership of 5 companiesand of these, we haveapproved the application ofIDA Freight, in Turkey. As ofthis writing, we are in the midstof the 30 day membernotification period. Weanticipate a favorable responseto IDA Freight and certainlylook forward to welcomingback Tijen Gozen, who formerlywas with IMI Group, one of ourmembers from Turkey.

So far, from our last generalassembly to date, we havecommunicated withapproximately 17 companiesinterested in IELA. I wouldanticipate that 3-4 of them may

be qualified and that for ourMelbourne meetings, we mayhave an additional 5 -6applicants to review.

One objective in ourRoadmap to Success is to havea goal of 150 members.Whereas quantity is not apriority over quality, wecertainly feel that this is anachievable goal as there aremany countries that we haveeither one IELA Member ornone. How do we achieve ourgoal of 150 members? This willrequire active input from all ofyou, to provide us with namesof quality companies you workwith today, that are not part ofIELA currently. In addition, thecommittee needs to be moreaggressive to seek outappropriate candidates.

A second objective is we aregoing to start to review theactual membership process. Asyou all know, we require theapplication, sponsorship letters,audited financials and votingwithin the board meeting. Afterall this, any approval has a 30day notification period. Inreviewing the current process,

we will investigate whether wecan effectively obtain qualityapplicants while shortening thebureaucracy of the applicationsprocess. Such ideas that we willchallenge is whether or not the30 day period is too long. Whynot a week. In this day and age,immediate response to emailsis becoming fait accompli.Another idea to question iswhether an applicant shouldwait till an actual BoardMeeting is convened before wecan accept members. We mayoffer to use ‘email voting” andlessen the time for applicationapproval. In this day and age,we should be able to accept amember within 2-3 weeks. With this goal in mind, I will be working with the committeeto challenge our existingmethods and to offer you all, in our Melbourne GeneralAssembly, some ideas todiscuss and implement.

We took the opportunity ofmeeting in Zurich during thehugely successful WinterSeminar in January. Building onthe interest that the studentsshowed during previousseminars it seemed useful andattractive to schedule aworkshop on customs issues forthe 2008 seminar. AchimLotzwick and I together set thisup and Jim Kelty, havingvolunteered during theSantiago congress was alsoinvolved. Tankie Jim was invitedto do the Asian part andpitched in as well. All four of ustook part in the session.

At our meeting we addressedthe annual check/update of theCustoms Info Data Base. TheSecretariat in Brussels haschanged all files into word filesand made all files accessible formodification without destroyingany basic information ourtouching the lay out. This wastaken care of in early November

and consequently allcooperating members havereceived “their” countries bythe end of November. The lowactivity in December wassupposed the best month tofind time for the members toassist with the modifications.

So far 22 countries of the 68countries have been transferredto the secretariat as changed orunchanged. 5 countries are stillto be checked by the CP beforesending to the new executivemanagement in London. So agreat number of countries arenot yet available to be re-imported as updated. Allassisting members received akind reminder at the end ofJanuary to get this done as soonas possible the update ofAustralia this time was the firstreceived update!! Bravo!

We next reviewed ‘black spotcountries.’ During the congressUFI chairman, Mr Jochen Wittpromised to discuss a possible

co-operation with UFIrepresentatives to look at theshow sites and countries wereexhibitors, organisers andlogistic suppliers have troubleworking due to localcircumstances and customsregulations or localparticularities. The customsinformation for ‘difficult’countries is extended for specialremarks, to alert exhibitors andforwarders specifically, see theIMPORTANT REMARKS section.

We are still pushing membersto take care of the updates,changes and/or no-changes, inorder to build a Database that isthe best there is in the world!We are really relying on theassistance of all members tolet them be proud of their own database. Finally, thecommittee is looking forward to the Melbourne Congress and welcomes all initiatives fromthe membership regardingcustoms issues.

Ask any IELA member whatvalue they see in IELA, and theword ‘networking’ is usuallythe first answer you hear. It isthe primary reason we are willingto travel thousands of miles tospend a few days with those thatsupport us, or those that we hopeto support us.

Certainly, there are plenty ofother good reasons to be amember of IELA. It is one of thefew organizations in the industrythat I know of that puts a heavyemphasis on peer review, whichdoes, after all, make us all betterat what we do. IELA also gives usan opportunity to learn moreabout our industry, throughexcellent continuing educationalprograms, during both the annualcongress and through otherevents like the ‘Winter Seminar’.

Another intangible value that isusually spoken about in anyconversation about IELA is that of

friendship. It was a pleasantsurprise for me to learn that thereare many friendships within theorganization among competitors,and between individuals ofcompanies that don’t even worktogether. Perhaps this comes outof the wise insight of thosemembers who have their eyes seton the future, realizing that oneday, that friend at thatcompetitors company may oneday be their business partner, oreven their future employer.

I would submit that the sameprinciple holds true for the youngup and comers within ourmembership. They represent thefuture decision makers within ourindustry, and a relationship tothem may end up being just asimportant to your future as therelationship to that managingdirector you met in Santiago, who business you would like to pursue.

Unfortunately, most of thoseup and comers don’t get toparticipate in the IELACongresses, and so their energyand desire may get lost orunderutilized. What is yourcompany doing to identify thisdesire and talent within its ranks?Are you putting that energy anddesire to work for your company?Ops Club was formed to give aforum to channel that energy,and that talent and energy doesexist. If you doubt this, ask any ofthe leaders of the Winter SeminarProgram. There are a lot ofoutstanding young peopleamong your ranks, and you aremissing an opportunity by nottrying to reach them.
