Reporting case studies Training stage: Initially at the training stage, Inverness Film Fans (InFiFa) were not able to attend the Inverness training day with groups, but instead provided bespoke advice in the form of a 3-page document by Georgina Coburn, Chair of InFiFa. This was written especially for Inverness-shire groups participating in the Grow Your Own Cinema project, but was so useful and transferable that it was included in the GYOC Info Packs given out to all participating groups in the project. The document included advice on subjects such as cinematic offering, feedback gathering, programming and expansion. GYOC inter-group support during screenings stage: Since screenings have started, groups have been very supportive of one another, even across group clusters in different geographical locations of Scotland. For example, GYOC publishes details of upcoming group’s screenings on its facebook page. Here are some comments: Lochaber Cinema Group on Sunart Centre page on news of Where You’re Meant To Be screening: ‘Good luck guys from LCG board.’ Additional comments: ‘Looking forward to this film. Great to have the cinema back in the sunart centre.’ Letham Lights on Kelty Community Cinema’s first screening: ‘Good luck to Kelty community cinema who are holding their first screening at the end of the month. They are putting on the (new) version of the jungle book for a bargain price of £2 for all tickets. Only a few left though so be quick...’ and ‘This looks great will try and come along. Good luck from all at Letham.’ Kelty Community Cinema on news of upcoming Port Logan Cinema screening of Local Hero on GYOC fb page: ‘Have a great time. Best wishes from Kelty Community Cinema.’ Falkland Community Hall on the same thread: ‘Good luck’. There is a nice point that these groups aren’t all in the same cluster, i.e. haven’t come into direct contact with one another, but still feel comradery with one another as all are participating GYOC groups. Programming choices: There has been a (somewhat unexpected) emphasis on Scottish/Scottish-interest screenings being programmed by participating Grow Your Own Cinema groups. This has resulted in out of the 20 titles scheduled to date as part of the project, 10 (50%) were Scottish titles or Scottish-interest titles (some titles were also screened more than once, in the case of Hamish and Sunshine on Leith for example). Out of all our screenings, 55% in total have been Scottish or Scottish-interest titles. Grow Your Own Cinema featured film titles
