Report on TRENDS chala JALLANDHAR ‘dissemination programme’ held on 17th August 2013 in Hotel Ramada, Jallandhar

The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) in association with CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-

CLRI) organized ‘Trends chala Jallandhar’ – a Technology & Trend dissemination programme on

Saturday, 17th August 2013 at Hotel Ramada in Jallandhar.

In his welcome address, Shri Sanjay Kumar, Regional Director (NR), Council for Leather Exports

expressed joy that such a ‘dissemination programme’ was the first of its kind in Jallandhar and he

prayed that such outreach programmes should be regularly organized in the Jallandhar Region.

Shri Sanjay Kumar was also happy with the response from the Members from the Jallandhar Region

who had gathered in good numbers and responded favourably to CLE’s call.

Shri Sanjay Kumar recalled the very positive meeting of the Finished Leather Panel that was held that

afternoon and said that the participation conveyed the optimism of the Members of the Jallandhar

He briefed the Members on the TAJ MODERUOP endeavour and established this endeavour as a

forerunner to the TAJ MODEUROP to be held on the occasion of the 7th edition of ‘Meet at Agra’ Fair.

He expressed hope that these endeavours would help India to move towards manufacturing of value

added products.

He outlined the presentations that would follow covering both Technology and Trends by Team CSIR-

CLRI comprising Dr BN Das, Shri K Dayalan and Shri Md Sadiq.

He welcomed all the Members of the Jallandhar Region to presentations by Team CSIR-CLRI.

Floral bouquets were presented to the dignitaries on the dais.

Shri Subhash Kapoor, Regional Chairman (NR), Council for Leather Exports in his address to the

gathering also welcomed the gathering and thanked the Members for their participation.

He too reflected on the very positive meeting of the Leather Panel held that day.

Shri Kapoor stressed that ‘Finished Leather’ was very important to the Leather and Leather Products

Industry.

He urged the Tanners to work on increasing capacities thereby enable the Indian Leather Sector to

achieve the target of US$ 10 billion exports by the end of the plan period.

He welcomed the Members as well as Team CSIR-CLRI to the ‘dissemination programme.’

In his key note address, Shri Praveen Kumar, Chairman, Jallandhar Chapter &

Managing Director, Raghu Exports said that he was happy with such an event

was happening in Jallandhar for the first time.

He thanked the Council for Leather Exports for such initiatives.

He urged the Shoe and Bag Manufacturers form the Jallandhar Region to

benefit from this endeavour.

He extended his special thanks to Shri Subhash Kapoor, Regional Chairman

(NR), CLE; Shri Sanjay Kumar, Regional Director (NR), CLE and Team CSIR-CLRI.

Shri Praveen Kumar expressed hope that such endeavours would help India to

compete with the world and in increasing the exports from India.

Release of ‘Trends chala Jallandhar’

Shri Subhash Kapoor, Regional Chairman (NR), Council for Leather Exports released the ‘first copy’ of

‘Trends chala Jallandhar’ in the august presence of Shri IS Paul, Managing Director, Drish Shoes Limited;

Shri Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, Raghu Exports: Shri Sanjay Kumar, Regional Director (NR), CLE

and Dr BN Das, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CLRI.

Wealth from Waste: Leather Products from Regenerated Leather

Dr BN Das, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CLRI spoke on the project implemented by CSIR-CLRI supported by DST

of developing useful products from Regenerated Leather.

He began by first identifying the sources of Leather Waste and gave a graphical representation of the

wastes generated by the Leather Products industry globally.

Dr Das then presented the priorities in Waste Management and broadly categorized them as

Reduction, Re-use and Recycling. He proceeded to give the details of the project on the conversion

of the waste leather portions of shoe / chappal uppers into leather composites and gave an

exhaustive list of the Plant and Machinery required to manufacture the ‘Regenerated Leather’ from

the Leather Waste.

The audience was very impressed when Dr Das showed them the various products including Gents

Wallet, Ladies Handbag, Gents Shoes and Chappals, Key Chain Holder made from the Regenerated

Leather and gave them a cost comparison of the ‘Original Leather’ versus the ‘Regenerated leather.’

Dr Das concluded his presentation with a Press Report on the usefulness of this project titled “How

Leather Waste Shines with Value.”

Following the Technology presentation; Shri Md Sadiq, CSIR-CLRI Shoe Design & Development Centre

made his presentation on TRENDS for the MODEUROP Autumn Winter 14/15 season along with Shri K

Dayalan, CSIR-CLRI Shoe Design & Development Centre who ably supported the presentation with a

‘showcase’ of the leathers and colours for the season.

Shri Md Sadiq opened his presentation with a short film on the transformation and growth of the Indian

Leather Industry and the importance of the Indian Leather Industry as an important foreign exchange

earner.

He quoted Chairman of the Council for Leather Exports, Shri RK Jalan, on the feat of the sector in

achieving an export performance close to US $ 5 billion mark for the first time in 2012-13 and that

India’s exports of Leather & Leather Products exports have performed quite well during the current year

also, with exports showing a positive growth of about 9.5% during the period April - May 2013.

The highlight of Shri Md Sadiq’s presentation was ‘timelines’ and calendar for the changing seasons

and the importance of advance preparedness.

To explain this, he guided the Members through the MODEUROP Roundtable for the Autumn Winter 14/

15 season that was held during April 2013 and the various facets of the fashion trend presentations that

Shri K Dayalan also ‘showcased’ the MODEUROP leathers/ colours for the Autumn Winter 14/15 season

in three colour groups, namely, SILENT, LOUD and DEEP.

He stressed on the importance of the various colour groups and how to use them in presenting

concepts/ co-ordinated collections to the discerning buyers and at various international fora.

He then moved on to present the TREND TRACKER that featured the colours for Spring Summer 2013.

Spring Summer 2014 and Spring Summer 2015 seasons in each colour group; explaining the relevance

of trend tracking in determining fashion trends for the season next.

Supporting Shri Sanjay Kumar’s announcement on TAJ MODEUROP; Shri Sadiq invited the Tanners to

join in the endeavour of presenting leather/ colour proposals for the Spring Summer 2015 season for this

season’s MODEUROP Roundtable and Colour Club Meeting slated for November 2013 in Agra.

Shri Md Sadiq concluded the presentation expressing sincere gratitude to the Council for Leather

Exports for the opportunity given to Team CSIR-CLRI to reach out to the discerning in the Jallandhar

Region.

Shri IS Paul, Managing Director, Drish Shoes Limited thanked the Council for Leather Exports for

organizing such a useful dissemination programme in Jallandhar Region.

Shri Paul said that he remained tremendously benefitted from the Technology & Trend presentation

made by Team CSIR-CLRI and was confident that it would also benefit the entire Leather fraternity of

the region.

He exhorted the Members of the Jallandhar Region to benefit from such endeavours and once again

thanked the members, CLE, CSIR-CLRI as well as the Press and Media.
