REPORT ON THE DONATION MADE ON THE 24TH
JANUARY 2015 TO THE
DISTRICT EMERGENCY RESPONSE CENTRE (DERC) AND TO PERSONS WITH
DISABILITIES IN KABALA BY TENEBA’S HAVEN IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE
EBOLA VIRAL DISEASE IN SIERRA LEONE.
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Since the outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) in Sierra Leone, the Government and its
development partners; including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the citizenry have
been making frantic efforts to eradicate the scourge in the country. The efforts ranged from
financial, material to technical support. Teneba’s Haven also saw the need to join the bandwagon
in the fight against the EVD in Sierra Leone but specifically in its operational area, Koinadugu
District.
In light of the foregoing, the founder of Teneba’s Haven, Mamoud Sawaneh, with support from
Board Members of Teneba’s Haven in the United States shipped the following items to his
counterparts in Sierra Leone:

The aforementioned items were received by Rtd Col. Duwai on …..2015.
1.1.1 A couple of weeks later, with directive from Board Members of Teneba’s Haven in the
US, Mamoud remitted the sum of $ 800, the equivalence of Le 3,810,643.20 to the
Secretary, Musa Beretay through Monegram. The said sum was meant for the following
purposes:
i. Hiring of Vehicle including the driver for two days -$ 200.00
ii. Rice(4bags of 5kg or 8bags of 25kgs) - $200.00
iii. Six large Veronica Buckets - $100.00
iv. Two boxes of Oral Rehydration Salt - $100.00
v. Hand Sanitizer - $50.00
vi. Dettol or Chlorine - $50.00

vii. Per Diem for one travelling staff - $50.00
viii. Soap - $25.00
2.1 IMPLEMENTATION
Upon discussion with the District Security Coordinator in Koinadugu District, regarding the
essential materials required in the fight against the EVD in that part of the country, we had cause
to deviate a little from the directives highlighted at sub paragraph 1.1.1 above. Given below is
the breakdown of how the sum of $ 800 was spent:

2.2 DISTRIBUTION OF ITEMS
2.2.1 THE DISTRICT EMERGENCY RESPONSE CENTRE (DERC) KOINADUGU
DISTRICT.
The following items were donated to the DERC Koinadugu District:
I. Soap - 1x100 x 3 cartons
II. Hand Sanitizer - 24pieces
III. ORS- 1x100x 5boxes
IV. Veronica Buckets - Six (06)
V. Police Lights (for manning the border posts) - Twelve (12)
VI. Battery- 1x12x12packets
VII. Infrared Thermometer - Eight(08)
VIII. Synthetic Gloves- Six (06) Packets
IX. Kimberly- Clark Masks- Seventy-five (75) pieces
X. Personal Protective Equipment(gown, goggles, lens)- Five sets

2.2.2 DONATION AT BILMAYA AMPUTEE CAMP
Seven 25kg bags of rice were donated to the above mentioned camp. The donation was made in
the presence of the District Security Coordinator, the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues
(SLUDI), the Chairman of the Camp (Siyeh) and the Vice Chair Lady among others. The SLUDI
Coordinator received the said rice on behalf of the Amputee Camp.

2.2.3 DONATION AT THE KABALA SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND
Five 25kg bags of rice were donated to the above mentioned school. The SLUDI District
Coordinator received the items and handed them to the Head-teacher of the school.

3.1 MEDIA COVERAGE
The services of the community radio were contracted through the Station Manager, Steven
Bockarie Mansaray to cover the entire donation exercise. The coverage of the said exercise was
aired on the Radio Bintumani on Monday 26th
January, 2015.
4.1 REACTION OF STAKEHOLDERS IN THE DISTRICT
Stakeholders such as the District Security Coordinator, the District Emergency Response Centre
Coordinator, Paramount Chief Gbawuru and Paramount Chief Ali Marah including the persons
with disabilities expressed their gratitude to Teneba’s Haven for the donation made to them.
They asked us to extend their appreciation to the Founder of Teneba’s Haven and the Board
Members who have given their invaluable support to Teneba’s Haven.
