REPORT ON SWACHHTA HI SEWA CAMPAIGN -2018 (15.09.2018 TO 02.10.2018)
‘Swachhta Hi Sewa 2018’ Campaign was observed at ICAR- Directorate of Floricultural
Research, Pune in connection with Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada (15.09.2018 to 02.10.2018). To
commemorate the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, various activities were organized by ICAR –
Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune.

A pledge taking ceremony was conducted in the office premises of ICAR – Directorate of
Floricultural Research, Pune for administering the oath of cleanliness. All the staff members of
the institute administered the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva Pledge (Sapath)’ whereby the staff resolved to
create a clean healthy and new India. Banners on Swacch Bharat Abhiyan is part of every occasion
at the institute and during farmer’s field visits. An awareness campaign was organized on
‘Swachhta hi Sewa’ at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Narayanaon. Swacchta pledge was administered to
KVK Staff including subject matter specialists, farmers, trainees and youth to spread the theme of
Swacchta.

Banners on “Swachhta Hi Sewa” were displayed in the Institute campus for spreading awareness
regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Partheniums and plastics were removed and eradicated as part of the campaign at Hadapsar farm
of ICAR – Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune. Awareness was spread among the farm
labours about the infestation of parthenium and its effect on crop and human health.

For the staff members of ICAR – Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune an essay writing
competition was held on the topic “Plastic ka unmoolan- uchith ya anuchith”. Around 13 staff
members participated in the Essay writing competition.

All the staff of the institute comprising scientific, technical, administrative and contractual staff
participated actively in the shramadaan programme by removing the weeds from the institute
campus. Shramadaan was done by all staff of the institute for lawn preparation in front of institute
campus for campus beautification. About 13 staff members participated in the Cleanliness
activities. Also a Shabdlekhan competition (Word writing) competition was conducted with the
theme “Paryavaran pradhooshan aur Swachhta”

Cleaning and systematic arrangement of Chemicals and Glass wares was done in the Stores section
of the Institute.

A drive for cleaning and systematic arrangement of Farm inputs and farm implements in Stores
section of the Institute was organised.

Cleaning of Office, Weeding off unwanted files etc. was done in the administrative section of the
Institute. All the staff members contributed in cleaning of the office files and sitting places.

A Workshop on “Importance of Segregation of waste and disposal” was organized as part of
‘Swachhta Hi Sewa Campaign 2018' at ICAR- Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune. The
workshop was conducted by the Officials from ‘Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative’ in
collaboration with Janwani group and ‘GOOD 4 NOTHING (g4n)’. Venue of the workshop was
Training Hall, TEC-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Regional Station, Pune. Around 50
participants including DFR staff, IVRI Regional station - Pune staff, Teaching Faculty from
College of Horticulture Pune and B.Sc. (Hort.) final year Students, College of Horticulture, Pune
participated actively in the workshop.

Shramadaan was done by all staff of the institute in the College of Agriculture, Pune Campus. A
Rangoli competition was conducted on the theme-‘Swacchta hi Sewa” wherein four groups
participated including contractual staff members from ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research,
Pune and Students from College of Agriculture, Pune.

Shramdaan was organized in the laboratory of the Institute. During the activity, unwanted and
broken glasswares, un-used or expired chemicals, scrap found in the laboratories was disposed off.
Log books were verified for regular updation. All the equipments in the laboratory were kept clean,
neat and tidy.

All the staff members were involved in the cleaning of the Institute library. Old newspapers,
magazines and miscellaneous publications of the library were disposed off as part of the
cleanliness drive. Systematic arrangements of Journals, Magazines, Periodicals, Books, Reports
etc. were done

A Cleanliness drive was organized at ICAR-DFR, Hadapsar campus wherein dedicated cleaning
of the surroundings of farm in Hadapasar campus was done. Weeding, removal of plastic and
partheniums were done as part of the drive.

To show the support for the ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa (Cleanliness is Service) Campaign’, an Awareness
Rally was organized in collaboration with ICAR- NRC for Grapes depicting the importance of
Swachh Bharath Mission (Ek Kadam Swachhta Ki Aur) at Shewalwadi Gram Panchayat, Manjri
Village, Hadapsar. The School students and teachers from Bhavravasti Zilla Parishad Primary
School, Manjri, Pune also participated in the awareness rally wherein comprehensive awareness
campaign was done through display of posters on importance of Swacchta.
A grand function was organized at ICAR- National Research Centre for Grapes on the
occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in collaboration with ICAR- National
Research Centre for Grapes. As part of this, a Workshop on “GENERATION OF WEALTH
FROM WASTE” was conducted wherein method demonstration were conducted on four different
topics. The group from a firm ‘GOOD 4 NOTHING (g4n)’ (Mr. Mayur Mehta, Mr. Nilay Parikh
and team ) had demonstrated the making of Paper Bags and Paper Box from old newspapers
wherein hands–on demonstration was done involving all the participants. The team also
demonstrated how to make pencils from old newspapers which can be started as a rural enterprise.
Also Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Phalke (Nodal Officer to State Govt,, M.P.K.V. Rahuri and Asst.
Professor (Soil science and Agrl. Chemistry), Agrl. College, Pune) had given a lecture on
‘Utilization of Waste for composting’. A method demonstration on different methods of
dehydration for preparation of dry flowers and methods for preparation of Potpourri form dried
petals of flower crops by Dr. (Mrs.) Safeena S.A, Scientist, ICAR- DFR, Pune was organized. It
was demonstrated that excess flowers and other plant parts could be converted to highly
commercial products like potpourri which have great demand in national and international
markets. Around 150 participants including the staff members from ICAR-DFR, Pune, ICAR-
NRC for Grapes, Farmers and Villagers wholeheartedly participated in the programme with great
enthusiasm. The public present at the venue also wholeheartedly participated in the workshop and
there was active participation of all the officials of ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research
Pune and ICAR- National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune.
