Bathfittings covering the entire gamut of household, commercial and industrial

electrical needs.

Havells owns some of the prestigious global brands like Crabtree, Sylvania,

Concord, Luminance, Linolite, & SLI Lighting. over 50 countries across the

globe, the group has achieved rapid success in the With 91 branches /

representative offices and over 8000 professionals in past few years. Its 8 state-

of-the-art manufacturing plants in India located at Haridwar, Baddi, Noida,

Page 8: report on havells

Sahibabad, Faridabad, Bhiwadi, Alwar, Neemrana, and 7 state-of-the-art

manufacturing plants located across Europe, Latin America & Africa churn out

globally acclaimed products. Havells is a name synonymous with excellence and

expertise in the electrical industry. Its 20000 strong global distribution network is

prompt to service customers.

The company has acquired a number of International certifications, like BASEC,

CSA, KEMA, CB, CE, ASTA, CPA, SEMKO, SIRIUM (Malaysia), SPRING

(Singapore), TSE (Turkey), SNI (Indonesia) and EDD (Bahrain) for various

products. Today, Havells and its brands have emerged as the preferred choice of

electrical products for discerning individuals and industrial consumers both in

India and abroad.

In an attempt to transform itself from an industrial product company to a

consumer products company, Havells launched consumer electrical products such

as CFLs, Fans, Modular Switches & Luminaires. The company has been

consistent in its brand promotion with sponsorship of Cricket events like T20

World Cup, India-Australia Series and IPL Season 1 and 2. The company has

also taken the initiative to reach directly to the consumers through "Havells

Galaxy" – a one stop shop for all electrical and lighting needs.

Social and environmental responsibility has been at the forefront of Havells

operating philosophy and as a result the company consistently contributes to

socially responsible activities. For instance, the company is providing mid-day

meal in government schools in Alwar district, covering 15000 students per day.

Besides this company has acquired land for constructing a larger kitchen with all

the modern facilities to serve freshly cooked food to 50000 students in the area.

Havells runs a mobile Medical Van, equipped with a trained doctor and necessary

Page 9: report on havells

medicines in the rural areas of Delhi & NCR for the very poor and needy

villagers. We also set up free medical check-up camps. In the past also, the

company has generously contributed to the society during various national

calamities like the Bihar Flood, Tsunami and Kargil National Relief Fund etc.

Havells is a part of the Indian business group- QRG group. Established in 1958

as a trading company , Havells came into existence in 1983. The company is now

a Rs 1600 crore company with presence in all major electricalcategories. Havells

business is primarily focused on four key verticals.Switch Gear Lighting and

Fixtures Cables and Electrical consumer deliverable. What is interesting about

Havells is their penchant for advertising. The company had been making major

investments in promotions and has been using the recent IPL for brand building.

Havells shot into limelight with their campaign for Mini Circuit Breakers (MCB)

which are used to prevent short circuits . Most of the new homes/offices have it

butthese products were never advertised. Havells came out with a clutter breaking

humorous ad for their MCB which caught the consumer's attention. The product

ad had the famous tagline"Shock Laga Kya".The ad was a hit because of the

creative execution. I think the positive response from the consumers prompted

Havells to in vest heavily in brand promotions.Another classic ad was for Havells

CFL bulbs. The Rimpoche ad too was a highly interesting ad for a dull product.

Havells followed its ad campaigns with a touchy mother son campaign for its

cableproduc trange.I like this ad very much because it conveyed the " heat

resistant " feature of the product very smartly and touchingly. For its fan range,

Havells came out with another funny campaign. Recently Havells made use of

Page 10: report on havells

the Recession to come out with another creative one for its MCB range :

Havells also has been using the recent IPL for brand promotion. Whenever some

batsman gets out or when he scores a six, the two second message ad comes on

the scree Shock Laga Kya".These clutter breaking ads has significantly increased

the brand familiarity and liking of Havells brand. The brand is fighting very well

established players like Crompton Greaves, Usha,Anchor , Legrand etc. Havells

scored over these brands through its higher share of voice.

Regarding the branding campaign, Havells has been focusing more on product

advertising rather than building its corporate brand.

There is an interesting piece written about this in hindu : read here

If you see all these ads of Havells, the ads does not have a common thread . The

cable ad and the MCB ad and CFL ads are all very different. Although it all

comes from Havells, one cannot find a common thread. This is a problem for

Havells as a corporate brand. The company has so far not tried to bring in a

corporate brand theme. Havells does not even have at agline. Now everyone

associates Havells with the Shock Laga Kya tagline which is a specific tagline for

its MCB range. I am not sure whether this is a planned strategy where the

company tries to develop its corporate brand through product ads .

There is no doubt that these product ads are well crafted and has served the

purpose. But when we analyse the branding , Havells as a corporate brand has

built strong familiarity but no brand depth. If you ask me what Havells stands

for, I would say that it stands for " Shock Proof MCB". So Havells stands to be

identified for a single product rather than as an umbrella brand. One disadvantage

of developing a common corporate brand theme is that every Havells ad should

then have to align with that common thread which may constrain creative

thinking. But a brand should own a distinct place in the consumer's mind. Havells

Page 11: report on havells

corporate brand right now does not have than distinct space for it .

The logic of the current strategy is that through the product ads , Havells will

gain familiarity and thus brand equity. There is now flaw in this logic. But the

issue is abou the brand personality.A brand should have some core brand values

and manthra which makes it unique and distinct. This mathra has to be created by

the brand and communicated to the consumers. It is in this context that the current

strategy of product ads driving a corporate brand becomes ineffective.

Havells need not stop its product based advertising, what it can do is to develop a

brand manthra and a corporate tagline and when show the tagline in the product

advertisements. The individual product ads can retain their taglines like " Shock

Laga " . Thus Havells will be able to create a distinct corporate brand image

which will be highly beneficial in future.Labels: Business products, consumer

durable brands, corporate brand, electrical product

Quality Control

The essence of quality is closely wrapped in the way we think, plan and work. It

finds its true expression when we extend beyond ourselves to exceed our

customer’s expectations. To deliver products those are safer, faster and simply

better. Each time, every time. Building customer confidence through teamwork is

a top priority to provide a wide variety of products and services. Realising and

respecting the basic needs of customers to feel more secure, we've committed

ourselves to make our products better, safer and smarter than what he or she is

rule on quality. If it doesn't exceed customer expectation, it's not quality

performance.

Certifications:

Corporate Governance

The QRG Group defines corporate governance strategically, which encompasses

not only what we do as a company with our profits, but also how we make them.

It goes beyond philanthropy and compliance and addresses how our company

manages its economic, social, and environmental impacts, as well as its

relationships in all key spheres of influence: the workplace, the marketplace, the

supply chain, the community, and the public policy realm.

We as a company have been in lead in offering a portfolio of eco responsible

products and services that deliver powerful, sustainable, energy-efficient

solutions that don't compromise on capacity and security. Our eco responsibility

initiative also focuses on how we run our business, and includes efforts to

develop an alternative-energy strategy, and thus reduce the environmental impact

of our operations. We strive to bring corporate responsibility to every aspect of

Page 25: report on havells

our business. We're committed to managing a responsible and diverse supply

chain that's consistent with our high standards for environmental and business

practices.

Breaking down the barriers that constrain innovation is a challenge; we have

readily embraced right from the start. Our ability to build communities and

promote the exchange of ideas through assistive technologies, participation

programs, and standardization is transforming the way people experience our

products. We offer our customers holistic energy-efficient solutions, enabling

them to not only save money and protect their capital investment, but also lower

their energy usage and protect the environment, thus fulfilling our CSR

responsibility of sustenance of depleting environmental resources.

Corporate Governance and Ethics

An implicit sense of ethical business conduct has been the cornerstone of the

QRG way on corporate governance. On issues ranging from customer care and

business excellence to financial propriety and more, explicit rules and regulations

supplement the traditional values on which our group companies have been

shaped. This is what we have endeavored to do in the 50 years of our existence.

Our values of understanding, trust, integrity and ethics have served us in good

stead.

Corporate governance as practiced by our Group translates into being fair and

civic-minded, fulfilling our duties to the entire spectrum of stakeholders, and,

most importantly, making integrity an article of faith across all our operations.

The group's adherence to ethical business conduct is rooted in the vision of its

Founder Mr Qimat Rai Gupta. We started on sound and straightforward business

Page 26: report on havells

principles, considering the interests of our shareholders and welfare of our

employees as foundation of our long term success.

The 'leadership with trust' philosophy that has come to play such a vital role in

how our customers perceive us is all the more remarkable given the climate of

unparalleled public distrust of people in positions of authority today both in

business and politics.

Employee Relations

Our people are the key to our success. Their skills, knowledge, ideas and

enthusiasm drive our business. We have high-quality, diverse workforce and

employees who fulfill their potential. We have achieved this by giving them

development and advancement opportunities along with competitive

compensation and benefits that appropriately reward performance

We communicate widely with employees to demonstrate how their efforts

contribute to our success and to listen to their concerns. We also encourage them

to align with our vision. We are committed to open communications and a

workplace where everyone's voice is heard.

We use several channels to communicate with employees, including an internal

web portal and company website along with communication sessions with the top

management of the company. These sessions provide assessment of employee

satisfaction and are inputs for business planning, management decision-making

and company strategy development. They also help employees implement

company policies, meet high standards of conduct and ensure their behavior

reflects company values and policies.

Page 27: report on havells

We seek to meet leading health, safety and wellness standards to enhance our

business performance while optimizing employee health. Our facility policies are

designed to continually reduce the risk of occupational injury and illness while

promoting employee health and well-being. We wish to be a company that is

known for its leadership in corporate ethics and responsibility. A company where

employees are proud to work, and customers, partners and suppliers want to do

business with.

Breaking down the barriers that constrain innovation is a challenge; we have

readily embraced right from the start. Our ability to build communities and

promote the exchange of ideas through assistive technologies, participation

programs, and standardization is transforming the way people experience our

products. We offer our customers holistic energy-efficient solutions, enabling

them to not only save money and protect their capital investment, but also lower

their energy usage and protect the environment, thus fulfilling our CSR

responsibility of sustenance of depleting environmental resources.

is located in Alwar, in the state of Rajasthan, India. Since inception, Havells has

invested heavily in the manufacturing infrastructure, which has today become

one of the largest in India. All wires & cables are manufactured on most modern

laser controlled automatic machines, using best raw material from primary

Havells Galaxy

On 11th of January, 2010 Havells launched their 2nd Havells Galaxy in Mumbai and 33rd in India!

.

The uniquely tailored space has been created to perfectly suit the style, culture

and wide portfolio of Havells. The Interior design has been crafted to include all

their products which include fans, lighting, motors, bath fittings, switches, and

many more.

Page 41: report on havells

This time again, Havells has won my heart. Earlier it was their Go green

initiatives and now their “one stop shop” galaxy. Truly, Havells have led the

way…After going through the prior day’s sales figures, I walk through the store

greeting employees and pointing out problems, if any. I do a regular check if

there is possibly any unnecessary use of electricity. I remind my employees that

“The consumer is looking for value and is looking for service.”

Greet customers, assist with sales and handle the phones. Mornings may bring

fewer customers so this is a good time to receive merchandise, check in vendors.

This is also an ideal time to complete as many items on my daily task sheet as

possible.

Page 42: report on havells

At mid-day walks in our regular visitor, Mr. Rajeesh, the local builder. Today he

is not alone, looks like his client has accompanied him. While his client walks to

our Bath fitting section, he comes up to me and starts chatting up about how

customers are these days. “They want to know everything. It’s so much easier

now to get them to one shop for it all. Previously, I had to take them with me to

so many places on the one day that they had time.” It’s always nice to hear a

customer say that we make their life easier. With the urban culture rising, people

like to buy from specialized stores and Havells Galaxy caters to this rising need

of the customers by providing a one-stop-shop for their entire electrical needs.

These days, it’s good to be careful about everything from the cables to the MCB

you use. Leaving it to the local electrician is not the best idea. The products we

are offering combine the attributes of elegance, technological advancement and

convenience in one. The concept of Havells Galaxy, a One Stop Shop is dynamic

and differently positioned from the retail format existing in the country and we

are glad to serve end-users directly through this store.

Havells plans to open many such galaxies. Currently, there are 31 such display

centers spread across the country including cities i.e. New Delhi, Noida,

Faridabad, Mumbai, Surat, Lucknow, Kanpur, Chennai, Kolkata, Baroda, Jaipur,

Bangalore, Udaipur, Sri Ganganagar, Aligarh, Himmatnagar, Kolhapur, Udaipur,

Bhuvneshwar, Ernakulum, Madurai, Kuch, Karur, Raipur and Bokaro. You can

find the Galaxy in your city here.

A store that has all your electrical needs – from Fans, which are not only amazing

but also energy-efficient and decorative, to Lights and CFLs, Capacitators,

Modular plate switches, Circuit protection and more.

Page 43: report on havells

There are just a few simple ways you can do the same!

Use a pressure cooker to cook food instead of a microwave oven. It is more

efficient and saves on energy considerably.

Use CFLs in your kitchen as it gives brighter light than a Tube light and

consumes lesser energy.

Avoid grinding dry items in your grinder or mixer as it takes longer time

than liquid grinding and hence consumes more energy.

After using your blender/mixer/oven, make sure you unplug the device as

while plugged it still consumes little energy.

Clean your gas stovetop after cooking so as to ensure that your gas jets will

work efficiently. That also heats food evenly and in a timely manner.

Use moderate flame settings in order to conserve LPG while cooking on a

gas burner. Use small burners for small vessels as a higher flame will cause

waste.

Do not leave the refrigerator door open for longer time as the cold air will

escape and then it will use more energy to develop cold air again.

Do not let the water run while washing dishes by hand as it leads to waste.

Avoid it by using sink stoppers and dishpans.

Water that is used to wash vegetables can be re-used to water plants.

Do not heat the food immediately after taking it out of the refrigerator as it

requires more time to get heated, which wastes a lot of gas. Keep it out for

some time and then place it on the stove.

When cooking food, make sure that you use a lid. Circulation of the heated

air helps cook food faster. This helps to save LPG.

Replace a leaking tap immediately and ensure that it is fully turned off, as it

wastes a lot of water in the entire day.

!

If you stop for more than 30 seconds turn off your car engine because

restarting uses less petrol.

When buying a new vehicle, buy an energy-efficient one by comparing the

energy requirement/consumption of various models.

Plan and combine your errands such that they are accomplished on the

same trip.

Keep your car windows open instead of the air conditioner in more

moderate weather.

Driving fast wastes precious fossil fuel as well as time and money at the

petrol pump.  So reducing your speed is one of the simplest ways to save

energy on the road.

Ensure your vehicle’s air conditioner is serviced by a certified technician

who recaptures the CFC and recycles it instead of letting it loose into the

air as CFC’s (chlorofluorocarbons) are mainly responsible for ozone layer

depletion.

Park the car in a shady spot in hot weather so as to keep the air conditioner

cool.

Accelerate and apply the brakes of your vehicle gently as quick starts and

stops can decrease mileage up to 12 percent.

Use alternative forms of transportation like public transportation, bike or

walk.

Page 47: report on havells

Old, dirty oil and clogged filters rob your engine of energy efficiency and

increase air pollution. So ensure that your car is properly tuned, spark

plugs are firing right and the oil and air filters are clean.

I hope after going through these tips you will make conscious efforts to conserve

our precious energy by not only implementing them but also spreading the

message among others and help them to avoid being a ‘Bulb’.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

Responsible managers & personals in the HR department of

Havells india Ltd. provide necessary assistance to me Finance

Straitegy of Havells”. They discussed different aspects &

functions of marketing as practical Havells India Ltd . Almost all

the necessary information was provided to me in the support of

this project report.

However there are some problems, which cannot escape from.

The limitation faced, felt or expressed by me are as follows –

Due to lack of time (i.e., Two & half month) it is not

possible to reach all respondents.

The lack of availability of time on the respondent’s part.

Some respondent’s was biased.

I tried to overcome on these limitations.

Page 52: report on havells

CONCLUSION OF THE STUDY

I have studied and analyzed the Havells india Ltd on different

aspects of the , Finance, outlets, distribution & consumers. The

survey was conducted in various areas of Alwar city with great

enthusiasm. This project report Concludes that Havells india Ltd

brands are easily available in various parts of Agra because of that

the local distribution channel of the Havells india Ltd is much

strong and 100% is tough job & the most important thing,

which I feel to improve is “ the availability to retailers &

consumers”.

The retailers & consumers both promotes either HAVELLS or

any other of it’s brands (eg. Mountain Dew) for could be with

regard to order processing, warehousing, inventory management

& transportation; besides that shop covering, time of enter &

exit from the market by the salesmen, cooling appliances, glow

shine board, schemes, incentives, prizes, gifts , discount, proper

billing , returning of defective goods, proper supply should be

improved.

Page 53: report on havells

My job was to make HR managers aware of all the problems

so that a proper course of action be required to be

undertaken .

The only competitor of Havells is no local brands can bea

Havells.
