Transcript of Report Best College · 2020-01-22 · Benedictine College is truly a place Where Greatness Begins....
It is truly a pleasure to welcome you and your family to Benedictine College for the Presidential Scholars Weekend. You should be proud to be here. It is quite an achievement to be considered for one of our 10 full-time tuition Presidential Scholarships and one of the five three-quarter tuition Dean’s Scholarships.
We hope you and your family enjoy a challenging but rewarding weekend with us. Each person here is one of our best and brightest applicants, with the potential to be a leader on our campus.
You come to Benedictine College, a top 10 U.S. News & World Report Best College, at an exciting time. We have been making exciting progress in all three aspects of our mission of community, faith and scholarship.
Community. In the past 10 years, Benedictine College has opened nine new residence halls, a new Dining Hall with its distinctive clock tower; turfed and renovated our football, basketball, baseball, softball, wrestling, and soccer facilities; and built the new Murphy Recreation Center.
Faith. In the past six years, the college has been consecrated to Mary, enthroned the Sacred Heart, opened three new chapels, each providing students 24-hour access to the Blessed Sacrament, and 1 in 3 students participated in mission trips, visiting 14 countries on four continents.
Scholarship. We are nearly finished building America’s finest small-college science and engineering building — one of five new academic buildings in seven years — and have added an architecture major. Our Great Books was rated one of the top 25 Great Books Programs in the country by Best College Reviews, our nursing school was ranked in the top 50 and be sure to investigate our Programs of Distinction: our Honors Program and Gregorian Fellows Leadership Program, STEM Fellows and now Constitutional Fellows, also!
Benedictine College is truly a place Where Greatness Begins. Our alumni include doctors, lawyers, engineers, bank presidents, university presidents and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate — and each of them began as a prospective student like yourself.
Dean of the College Dr. Kimberly Shankman and I really look forward to this weekend. We hope you enjoy spending time on campus and imagining yourself a part of Benedictine College as we build one of the great Catholic colleges in America.
Congratulations once again,
Stephen D. Minnis ’82President
