About the Fest: VerTechX 9.0 brings to you the most daunting and challenging technical fest of 2019, hosted by

MVJ College of Engineering. On 1stand 2ndMarch 2019, the nation witnessed a technical

revolution, led by youth with a persistent goal in mind. Technology, with its new age innovations,

has been nothing short of pure magic, and the Fest offered the best minds of the nation an

opportunity to portray their talents.

The aim of the Fest was to provide a platform for budding engineers from all over the country, to

showcase their technical acumen.With 12 departments encompassing myriad fields of technology

and management participating, this tech carnival offered two days of thorough indulgence to the

technically inclined. A wide variety of ace events were conducted to draw out and showcase the

technical abilities and skills of the students around the nation. This Fest also gave an opportunity

to students to bag a large prize money worth Rs.4Lakhs.

The theme for the fest was ‘Tech is Omnipresent’and over 1500 students from 40 colleges

participated. Airborne, Drone G.P, Paper Plane, Fighter bot, Aqua soccer,Speed-o-Track, Voice

Controlled Robot, Chemoflare, Rotolare, Scrennin, Roborace, Hackathon-Code quest,

Infographics, E-Animate, IoT Challenge,Pocket bike, Catalyst, Puzzle Champion, Ideate

andDatathon were some of the events at the Fest.

Inaugural Function:

The Chief Guest for the event Dr. I K Bhat, Vice Chancellor, ManavRachna University, is

a distinguished academician and administrator, who has held many key positions in AICTE and

NBA. The Chief Guest pointed out, “Success in future depends upon a balance of Iteration,

Innovation and Disruption. Iteration- doing the same thing better; Innovation- doing new things;

Disruption – doing new things that make old things obsolete. If you don’t disrupt yourself, it will

be a gift to you by someone else.” The event undoubtedly rose to the next level, with his presence

and inspiring words.

Event Details:

1. AQUASOCCER

Date: 1st March, 2019

Time: 11:00-4:00

Venue: Near Tinkering Lab

MVJ College of Engineering organized a National Level Technical Fest VerTechX 9.0, on 1st and

2nd March, 2019, for students of various Engineering disciplinesfrom various colleges to take part

and showcase their talents.

As a part of VerTechX-9.0, MVJ College of Engineering, Tinkering Lab, organized an event

‘AQUA SOCCER’ on 1st March, 2019, in front of the Tinkering Lab.

The students had to design a manually controlled robot, which would have the capacity to float on

water, play soccer and beat the other competitors.

The event started at 11:00am 1st March, with student registrations, distribution of deliverables and

checking of the robot models made by students for design specifications – like use of wired and

wireless robots with a maximum dimension of 30 × 30 cm (l × b), weighing not more than 3 kg

and power supply up to 12volts.

There were 21 teams in all, which included 72 participants from MVJCE. The event ended with

the declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates and cash prizes to winners.

Cash prizes of Rs.7500/-, Rs.5000/- and Rs.2500/- were given to the 1st2ndand 3rdplace winners,

respectively.

The event presented students with an excellent opportunity to transform innovative ideas into

working models. We thank the Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators, for the

2. SPEED-O-TRACK

Date: 1st& 2ndMarch, 2019

Time: 09:30-03:30

Venue: Double Lobby

The Department of Electronics Communication and Medical Electronics Engineering, MVJ

College of Engineering, organized the event SPEED-O-TRACK, on2ndMarch, 2019, in the

Double Lobby Arena.

In this event, the students had to design an automated ROBOT which should have the

capacity to complete the track in the shortest possible time, crossing all the obstacles, and beating

its opponents.

The event started at 09:30, with student registrations, distribution of deliverables and checking of

the robot models made by students, for design specifications. The students had to use wireless

robots with a maximum dimension of 30 × 30 cm (l × b), weighing not more than 1.5 kg

(including battery), and a power supply up to 12volts.

There were 112 participants in 32 groups from all over the country, which included 27 groups

from MVJCE and 5 groups from other colleges in and outside Bangalore.

Before the start of the 1st round, the rules were explained to the students and robots were lined up

for the event. The students had to design an autonomous robot to follow a black line on a white

background, without losing the line and navigate several turns. The robot had to complete the

course in the shortest period of time, while accurately tracking the course line from start to finish.

At the end of the 1st round, 10 teams qualified for the 2nd round.

The 2ndround was held on the same day at the same place. In this round, many obstacles were

added,and the tracks were more complex and longer. The participant with the least timing was

declared the winner.

The event SPEED-O-TRACK ended with the declaration of winners, distribution of

participation certificates and cash prizes to the winners.

Cash prizes of Rs.5000, Rs.3000 and Rs.2000 were given to the 1st, 2ndand 3rd place winners,

respectively.

At this event, the students had a very good chance to transmute their innovative ideas into

working models. We thank the Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators for

making this event a memorable one.

3. SCRENNIN

Date: 2nd March, 2019

Time: 11:00 am to 4:00 pm

Venue: Room No. 119

As a part of VerTechX 9.0, The EEE Department of MVJ College of Engineering organized an

event SCRENNIN, on 2nd March,2019, in Room No.119.

The event started at 11:00 am, with student registrations, distributions of deliverables and

checking of the power generation models made by students, for design specifications.

Two rounds were conducted:

First Round: Circuitry (Problems on circuits)

Second Round:Description of a working model in detail using PPT

9 teams from various colleges across the State(20 participants from MVJCE) participated in the

event. The event ended with the declaration of the winners and distribution of participation

certificates and cash prize to winners.

Cash prizes of 5000/-, 3000/- and 2000/- were given to the 1st,2nd and 3rd place winners,

respectively.

The event provided the students with a good opportunity to transform innovative ideas into

working models. We thank the Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators for

the grand success of the event.

4. ROBORACE:

Date: 1st and 2nd March, 2019

Time: 10:30-4:00

Venue: Lonely Tree Arena

MVJ College of Engineering organized a National Level Technical Fest VerTechX 9.0, on 1st

and 2nd March 2019,for students of various Engineering disciplinesfrom different colleges to take

part and showcase their talents.

At this event, the students had to design a manually controlled ROBOT which had the capacity to

cover the maximum distance in the shortest possible time, crossing all hurdles and beating the

opponents.

The event started at 10:30 on March 1st, with student registrations, distribution of deliverables and

checking of the robot models made by students for design specifications. The students had to use

wireless robots with a maximum dimension of 30 × 30 cm (l × b),weighing not more than 6 kg,

and a power supply up to 24volts.

There were 41 groups of 79 participants in all, with 55 participants from MVJCE and 24 from

other colleges in and outside Bangalore.

Before the 1st round, the rules were explained to students and robots were lined up for the event.

The participants had to drive their robots individually, in the track with obstacles which included a

bridge, stones, marbles, motor, grease and blocks. There was a penalty of additional 5 seconds if

the robots touched the obstacles, and 10 seconds if any obstacle was skipped. Timings for each

team were noted.

At the end of the 1stRound, 12 teams qualified for the 2ndRound.

The second round was held on 2nd March in the same venue. In this round, many obstacles likean

oil tray, mud, water with stones, puzzle block, road of pipes, glass with oil and grease were added.

The participants had to pass through a path with tar and pebbles, through a bridge, and cross a tray

with oil and marbles. The remaining path had stones, mud pits, stone hills, steps and pipes.

Participants had to pass through all these hurdles. The participant with the least timing was

declared as the winner.

The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates and cash

prizes to winners.

Cash prizes of Rs.5000, Rs.3000 and Rs.2000 were given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place

winners,respectively.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and came up with innovative ideas. We thank the

Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators for making this event a grand success.

5. ROTOLARE

Date: 2nd March, 2019

Time: 9:30-4:00

Venue: Near Civil Department

On the occasion of Vertechx 9.0, the Department of Civil Engineering organized ROTOLARE,on 2nd

March 2019,where students used their creativity to design and build a rollercoaster. The event started at

8:00 am, in the Drawing Hall of the Civil Engineering department and ended at 2:30 pm. 19 teams

registered for the event, with 73 students from our college and 4 students from other colleges participating.

The students were suppliedwith chart papers, gum tapes and fevicol, to aid them in making the model. The

panel of judges comprised of Prof. Srinivasan D of the Aeronautical Department, Prof. Rajesh Kumar of

the Mechanical Department and Prof. Vetrivel N of the Civil Department. They judged the teams on the

basis of their design, innovation, creativity, aesthetics and stability of the model. The students showcased

their creativity very effectively,by creating rollercoasters with unique themes.

6. PUZZLE CHAMPION

Date: 2ndMarch, 2019

Time: 9:30-4:00

Venue: Smt. Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall

During VERTECHX 9.0, the eventPUZZLE CHAMPION was conducted.

The event started at 10:00 am on 2nd March 2019.The event witnessed the enthusiastic

involvement of all the participants. The event had three rounds:

Round 1- Multiple Choice Questions Round 2- Rapid Fire Round 3-Visual round

We had 64 participants in 21 teams in Round1, among them, 10 teams qualified for Round2.

At the end of Round 2, 6 teams qualified for the final round. The names of the winners and

runners-up were recorded for awarding prizes.

7. INFOGRAPHICS

Date: 1stMarch, 2019

Time: 11:30-4:00

Venue: CS LAB

On 2ndMarch, 2019, Computer Science & Engineering Department of MVJCE organized

Infographics, at VERTECHX 9.0, an Inter Collegiate National Level Technical Fest, conducted

by MVJCE on 2ndand 3rdMarch, 2019.

Dr.Umamaheshwaran (Assoc.Professor – CSE) and Dr.Thirukrishna(Assoc.Professor – CSE) of

MVJCE werethe judges for the event. The objective of the event was to provide a platform for the

students to showcase their talent in animation and design, with a competitive spirit.

8 teams consisting of 16 students from different colleges participated in the event. There was a lot

of enthusiasm and determination from the participants as well as from the Student Coordinators

and Faculty Coordinators.

First Round:

The event consisted of two rounds. In the first round, the participants were required to make an

animation to create a jungle environment, in one hour’s time. Innovative ideas and creativity were

the main judging criterion for this round. All the 8 teams qualified for the second round.

Second Round:

In the second round, social awareness topics were given to the teams, and they were required to

make a short video offering a solution to the given problem, in 1 hour 45 minutes. Originality,

presentation, content and the feasibility of the solution offered, were the main judging criterion,

here. After a tough fight, 3 teams emerged winners.

8.HACKATHON CODE-QUEST

Date: 1ST March, 2019

Time: 11:30-4:00

Venue: Smt. Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall and CAED Lab

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MVJCE, organized the HACKATHON

CODEQUEST event,at the National Level Technical Fest VERTECHX 9.0, on 1st and 2nd

March, 2019. The event aimed to test the student’s ability to solve a problem using C

programming language, and testing his debugging skills.

The first and second rounds of the event took place at Smt. RajalakshmiJayaraman Seminar Hall,

and the third round was conducted in the CAED lab, Room No024, on 1st March, 2019. The event

was made possible by the efforts of Faculty Coordinator Mr. Vinay Pradeep Nadkarni (AP - CSE),

and Student Coordinators– Saurav Mishra (6thsemester, CSE), Himanshu Kumar (6thsemester,

CSE), Saurabh Kumar (6thsemester, CSE) and Akshith Nair (6thsemester, CSE).

The participants assembled for the first round at 11:00 am, on 1st March, 2019. There were 30

teams with 70 participants, each team having two or three members.

Round 1 (MCQ):

In this round, 30 questions were given to be solved in 30 minutes. There were 20 questions on C

programming and 10 questions on Technical GK. The questions were in the multiple-choice

format. This round tested the students on their basic programming knowledge in C language, as

well as on their technical general knowledge. All teams from Round 1 qualified for Round 2 and

the top 4 teams directly qualified for Round 3.

Round 2 (Debugging):

The second round started at 12 pm in Smt. Rajalakshmi Jayaraman Seminar Hall, MVJCE. In this

round, the teams were given 5 problems in C language – problems that contained errors. The

teams then used the C compiler to find the errors, and execute the programs successfully. The

time limit for the second round was 30 minutes. At the end of the second round, 21 teams

qualified for the third round.

ROUND 3 (Coding Round):

The third round was the Coding round which was held in CAED Lab Room No. 024, and it started

at 2.30 pm. The 21 teams which had cleared the second round were registered in the CodeChef

website. In this round, 5 problems were to be solved in 120 minutes. The problems were based on

three levels - 2 problems in the Beginner level, 2 problems in the Easy level and 1 problem in the

Intermediate level. By 4.30 pm, the winners were announced. All the students who took part in the

event were given participation certificates.

9. EXCEL ANIMATE

Date: 2ndMarch, 2019

Time: 10:30-4:00

Venue: CS LAB

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MVJCE,conceptualized the EXCEL

ANIMATE event, in the National Level Technical Fest VERTECHX 9.0. The event Excel

Animate, held on 1stand 2ndMarch 2019,aimed to test the students’ knowledge on Excel, and also

their proficiencyin animation.

EXCEL ANIMATE was held at CSE Lab 1, in the presence of Mrs.ManimozhiIyer (Head of

Department - CSE), Mrs. Deepthi C (AP - CSE, Event Coordinator), Mrs.Aileen (AP - CSE,Event

Coordinator) and Student Coordinators.13 participants grouped in 5 teams, took part in the event.

The event had 2 rounds, the first round tested Excel skills, second round was on Animation. The

team which scores the highest points at the end of the two rounds would be declared the winner.

Round 1 (Basic Excel Quiz):

The first round tested the students’ knowledge of Excel. This round had MCQ questions, and it

went on for 20 minutes.

Round 2 (Show Your Excellence):

The second round started at 10.15 am in CSE Lab 2. In this round, each team was assigned a

topic, where they had to solve the problem in Microsoft Excel. This round was for 1 hour. At

11.15,the two judges Mrs. Deepa(AP - CSE) and Mrs. Akshatha (AP - CSE) judged their work,

based on their Accuracy, Presentation, Innovation and Creativity.

The cumulative marks of Round 1 and Round 2 was considered, to decide the top three places.

10. DATATHON

Date: 1stMarch, 2019

Time: 11:30-4:00

Venue: CS LAB

The Software Development Club of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering,

MVJCE, organized the DATATHON coding event in the National Level Technical Fest

VERTECHX 9.0, on1st and 2nd March, 2019. DATATHON aimed to test the student’s ability in

solving a problem, in terms of using appropriate algorithms, data structures and using a

programming language. The event also had an interesting task - a treasure hunt for a 5-digit

password which was a unique one. All this increased the curiosity of the participants, making the

event a challenging as well as a fun-filled one.

DATATHON took place in CSE Lab 3, in the presence of Mrs.ManimozhiIyer(Head of

Department - CSE), Mrs.Sindhuja K (AP – CSE and SDC Coordinator), Mrs.Deepa Acharya (AP

- CSE) and the Student Coordinators of DATATHON.

On 1st March 2019, the event began at 1:30 pm. There were 53 participants in all, who took part in

the event either as individuals or as a team of 2 members. The event had 3 rounds, 2 of which

tested the student’s programming skill, and 1 round was the challenging and fun-filled treasure

hunt round.

Round 1 (MCQ):

This was an elimination round, where students had to answer 20 Multiple Choice Questions on

Programming. 27 teams participated in this round which was held in the CSE Department

Classroom No. 251, and lasted for 40 minutes. 16 teams which scored the highest marks in this

round were selected for Round 2.

Round 2 (Treasure Hunt):

Students assembled at 2:45pm in CSE Lab 251 for Round 2. Round 2 was the treasure hunt round,

where each team was assigned a color code and team name. 5 number puzzle questions were

given to the teams, and they had to solve these to get five, 3-digit numbers. These 5 numbers were

the numbers of the classrooms onthe 1st, 2ndand 3rdfloors of the main building of our college. Once

the students found the numbers,they went to those classrooms to find a clue, by telling their team

name and color code to the person in that room. The clues which were collected formed a 5-node

undirected weighted graph. The teams were instructed to construct a spanning tree for the graph

found. The order in which tree formed and the node numbers in it, produced a 5-digit password.

With this password in hand, the teams reached CSE Lab 3 for Round 3. The first 11 teams which

reached the CSE Lab 3 with the correct password,qualified for Round 3.

ROUND 3 (Coding Round):

The 11 teams which qualified for this round were given a password-protected zip file, which had 3

levels of coding tasks in it.

The teams had to use the password found from Round 2 to open the zip file, and solve 3 levels of

questions. Level 1question was 2 debugging questions,carrying 10 marks. Level 2 question was

finding anagrams for 4-test string and checking if they are anagrams - this was for 10 marks.

Level 3 was a question on creating a MagicSquare, which was for 30 marks. Teams that solved all

the three Level questions in the shortest time got the full score. The cumulative marks of Round 1,

Round 2 and Round 3 were considered, to decide the top three places.

The event was a good platform for the students to explore their programming skill as well as their

competing spirit in finding the password. The students got a clearer picture of how to think

logically, and realized the importance of logical thinking in developing their programing skills.

11. CHEMOFLARE

The event CHEMOFLARE was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, on

1stMarch 2019, at Seminar Hall 4 and Seminar Hall 5, from 11.30am to 4.30pm, as part of

Vertechx 9.0, a National Level Tech Fest, conducted by MVJCE, Bangalore. The aim of

CHEMOFLARE was to offer a platform for students to exhibit their technical knowledge, and

management and innovative skills.

The event was conducted in 3 rounds named Brainstorm, Reflector and Chemhunt. The first

round, Brainstorm, was a test of the remembering potential of students. 37 groups (3 or 4

members in each group) participated in the first round, where a set of questions was displayed and

the answers evaluated. 15 groups were selected for the second round, based on the scores of the

first round.

In the second round, Reflector,the students had to enact and guessthe technical terms.Out of the

15 groups, 5 teams got selected for the third round. The third round,Chemhunt, was a treasure

hunt. The teams had to solve the technical clues provided, to reach the treasure. The prize money

for the First place wasRs. 5000/-, Second place Rs. 3000/- and Third place Rs. 2000/-.

At the National Level Tech Fest VERTECHX 9.0 organized by MVJCE for students of various

Engineering disciplines from across the state and country,the Information Science Department,

organized the event CATALYST, on 2ndMarch, 2019,at the Information Science Lab (Room No.

227).

The event started at 9:00 am on 2ndMarch, with student registrations. 20 teams, which included 40

students from MVJCE, participated in the event, with enthusiasm. The event consisted of three

rounds.

Round 1: CODE2DUO

Before the commencement of the 1stround (CODE2DUO), the rules were explained, and the

description of the round was given to the students. This round had 6 questions graded in three

levels- Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The students could opt for any programming

language of their choice,to solve the problem. Students were scored, based on the level of

questions attempted. 11 teams qualified to go the next round.

Round 2: VIDEO HUNT

The 2nd round (VIDEO HUNT) started at 11:30 am. A demo of the round was given, using a

projector. The students were provided with 10 URL of videos. At a particular time, a content/word

was displayed. Out of the 10 URLs,the students had to form a new URL of video. If the new video

was on expected lines, the team qualified to the next round. Here, students were scored based on

their speed. 5 teams qualified from the 2nd round.

Round 3: UI/UX

The 3rd round started at 1:00 pm. This round had been designed to test how innovative and

creative the students were. They were asked to make a GUI (Wireframe at structural level) with

just drag-and-drop techniques. On-the-spot topics were given to each team. They could use a

software of their choice. Scores were based on the following criteria – User-friendliness,

Creativity and Presentation.

The event ended with the announcement of the winners, distribution of participation certificates,

and cash prizes to winners.

13.IDEATE

At VERTECHX 9.0, the Department of Information Science Engineering under the auspices of

Tomorrow’s Engineers Club, organized an event, IDEATE.

No idea is too small or too big, every idea has the potential to change the world. Everything

begins with a small germ of an idea. The main objective of this event was to encourage students to

come up with innovative ideas as a solution to many social, economic and engineering problems.

There were two rounds in this event:

1. Ideation

2. Presentation

Round 1: Ideation

The teams had already sent their idea abstracts to the Faculty Coordinator. The initial screening of

the abstracts was done by the experts. The abstracts were shortlisted, based on the innovativeness

All the participants who qualified for the first round received participation certificates. Winners

14. VOICE CONTROLLED ROBOT

Date: 1stMarch, 2019

Venue: Boys Common Room (113)

As part of VerTechx9.0, Robolab organized the event VOICE CONTROLLED ROBOT, on 1st

March, 2019, in the Boys Room (Room No. 113). In this event, the students had to design a voice-

controlled robot, which would have the capacity to cover maximum distance in the shortest

possible time, crossing all the hurdles and beating the opponents.

The event started at 11:00 am, with student registrations, distribution of deliverables and checking

of the robot models made by students for design specifications. The students had to use wireless

robots with a maximum dimension of 30 × 25 cm (l × b),weighing not more than 5 kg, and with a

power supply up to 12volts. 11 teams, which included 37 participants from MVJCE,took part in

this event, which had two rounds.

Before the commencement of the 1stround, the rules were explained to students and robots were

lined up for the event. The participants had to drive their robots individually,along the track laden

with obstacles like a bridge, stones, sand, and humps. The secondround was held at 2:30 pm, in the

same place. Here, along with overcoming the obstacles,the participants needed to also pick the

objects kept on the track and place them at the designated check points. Participants were given a

chance to skip any one object, with a penalty of 25 secs. The participant with the least timing was

declared as winner.

The event ended with declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates, and cash

prizes to winners. Cash prizes of Rs.5000/-, Rs.3000/- and Rs.2000/- were given to the 1st, 2nd and

3rdplace winners, respectively.

Students thoroughly enjoyed this event – it offered them the chance to convert their innovative

ideas into working models. We thank the Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student

Coordinators for all their effortsin conducting this event, successfully.

15. POCKET BIKE RACING

Date: 1st and 2nd March, 2019

Time: 11:30 – 4:00

Venue: Basket Ball Ground

The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a two-day Pocket Bike Racing

event,at VertechX 9.0. It was held on 1st and 2nd March 2019,at MVJCE. Pocket Bike Racing,

also known as Minimoto, is a category of racing where miniature racing motorcycles (known as

pocket bikes or Minimoto) are raced around kart tracks. A typical Minimoto is approximately

one-quarter the size of a regular motorcycle, and is powered by a two-stroke internal combustion

engine of 40-50 cc, producing somewhere between 2.4 and 1.7HP (1.8 and 11KW).

12 teams participated in this exciting event and all of them designed and fabricated pocket

bikes,as per the specified requirements.

Day 1:

Technical inspection of all the bikes was done by the judges. They confirmed that all the bikes

met the specified requirements, with respect to the design criteria. Acceleration test and

braking test were done, to ensure that allthe safety parameters had been met.

Day 2:

On the 2nd day, three different tests were conducted to check the stability of the bikes and the

riding skill of the riders. The tests were Acceleration, Auto cross and Endurance Test. Based on

these tests,6 teams were selected for the Drag Race.

16. PAPER PLANES

At Vertechx 9.0, the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, MVJCE, organized an event

PAPER PLANES,on1stand 2nd March 2019, at Dr. M V JayaramanAuditorium.

The participants at this eventhad to design,in 15minutes,two models of paper planes, with the two

A4 sheets provided, and test the paper plane for range. Similarly, students had to design and test

for endurance,on the spot,the paper plane designed by them.

The event started at 11 am on 1st March, with student registrations, distribution of deliverables and

checking of the models made by students for design specifications. It was mandatory that the

models should be designed only by the students– ready-to-fly models were not

permitted.71participants, which included 21 groups from MVJCE and 4 groupsfrom other

colleges in and outside Bangalore, participated in the event.

The rules were explained to the participants, who were then asked to create two paper planes in

15minutes, and cover a minimum range of 5m in the first round. Two trials were permitted. The

participants qualifying for the second round were asked to design two more paper planes,and the

endurance of the designed paper plane was tested, allowing 3 trials.

The event ended with the declaration of winners, distribution of participation certificates, and cash

prizes to the winners.

The Department of CSE, MVJCE, proud to be a part of VerTechX 9.0,organized the event IoT

Challenge. This event is the ultimate platform to bring out the problem-solving skills of students,

with real time applications. The event which was conduced on 2ndMarch 2019, had 2 rounds.

The event started at 9.00 am,at the Logic Circuits Laboratory of the Electronics and

Communication Engineering Department.Dr. Shyam P Joy (Associate Professor/CSE), Dr. J

MannarMannan (Associate Professor/ISE), Dr.Muzammil Hussain (Associate Professor/ISE) and

Prof. J KarthickMyilvahanan(Assistant Professor/CSE) judged the event. The event Coordinators

were Prof. Dr.KSindhanaiselvan and R MohemmedYousuf (Assistant Professor/CSE).26 students

(9 teams) from various Engineering Colleges participated in the event.

Round 1 - Ideation:

In this round, the problem statement had to be presented as a power point presentation, along with

the open technology that was going to be used. A brief outline about the hardware and software

solutions had to be described.

Round 2 - Demonstration:

A working prototype model based on the problem statement,had to be demonstrated. This system

will have to be driven by embedded / microcontroller. The participants were free to choose their

own IoT hardware and software. The IoT system should use remote phone over internet. Security

was the core requirement and various wireless technologies should be used. At the end of this

round, 3 teams were declared winners (10 students).

way, thus providing a hands-on exposure to industrial needs.

18. FIGHTER BOT

Date: 2ndMarch, 2019

Venue: Near Flag Post, MVJCE

Time: 10:00 – 3:30

As part of Vertechx 9.0, under IEEE Student Chapter,MVJCE organized an event Fighter Bot, on

2ndMarch, 2019, from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.

In this event, the participants had to design and construct an autonomous or automatically (Wireless)

controlled robot, capable of fighting in a one-on-one tournament.

The event started with registrations, following which the Welcome Kits were distributed. The rules and

regulations of the event were then explained by the organizers.

Specifications:

1. Two teams start the game, by fighting with each other.

2. If the opponent robot is pushed out of arena or flipped, then the other team wins the round.

3. There will be three rounds of two minutes each, and the robot which wins in most of the rounds qualifies

for the further matches.

4. In case both the robots fall out, the team which falls last wins the round.

Over 19 teams participated in the first round, out of which 10 teams got into the second round, where the

difficulty of the arena was increased. Out of these 10, 5 teams qualified to go into the third round. 2 more

were further eliminated and 3 teams entered the finale.

In the finale, we had a tri-series by which the 1st, 2ndand 3rdplaces were decided, based on the number of

rounds won by each team.

19. DRONE GP

Date: 2nd March, 2019

Time: 11:00-4:00

Venue: MVJCE Football Ground

The Aeronautical Engineering Department, MVJCE, organized an event Drone GP on2nd March

2019, at theNational Level Technical Fest, VerTechX 9.0, held at MVJCE. The event was held at

the Football Ground of MVJCE.

The competition was about testing the flight characteristics and piloting expertise of the

participants. The competition consisted of 3 rounds. Round One was a qualifier, at which the

Drone/ Quadcopter was inspected by the judges. And a brief technical report required to be

submitted at the venue during registrations, was verified. The first round did not carry any scores;

scores were awarded only to the performance at the second and third rounds, and were considered

to determine the winners.

RoundsTwo and Three involved obstacle avoidance and maneuvering flight display, with

thelevels of difficulty increasing as the teams progressed towards Round Three.Each round carried

a maximum of 100 points, and the event was totally evaluated out of 200 points. In Round Two

there were 5 sets of vertical poles, high pass maneuver and 4 sets of hurdles, low pass maneuver.

Totally, there were 9 obstacles. 10 points were awarded for successful crossing of each obstacle

and 5 points each was counted for perfect take-off and landing from and at the designated zone

marked on the ground.

The third and final round consisted of more intricate obstacles. The obstacles were elevated

hoops/ loops, kept in such a position as to check the piloting skills of the drone pilot. As three of

the participants were using mini drone of frame dimension of about 250 mm diameter, necessary

modifications were made to reduce the diameter of the loop, to keep a fair competition. This

round had 5 separate sections of obstacles, each were evaluated for 25, 15, 15,25 and 10

respectively.As in the previous round, the take-off and landing were evaluated for 5 points each.

In order to discourage skipping of obstacles,there was negative markingin both the rounds. In the

second round, if any obstacle was missed/ skipped,it would be penalized with a negative marking

of 2 points. In the third round the negative marking was 2 points for sections 1-3, 3 points for

section 4, and 5 points for section 5.

Among the 9 teams registered, only 4 were from MVJCE. The others were from different colleges

- St. Joseph's - Mangalore, ACS College of Engineering - Bangalore, Atiria Institute of

Technology – Bangalore,Gopalan College of Engineering - Bangalore and KendriyaVidyalaya -

Malleshwaram, Bangalore. Prof. D Srinivasan and Asst. Prof. Rohit Kumar from the Department

of Aeronautical Engineering were the judges of the event. The UAV Lab at MVJCE provided

technical support to the participants, by providing components and necessary tools. The event

concluded with the announcement of the winners.Participation certificates were distributed to all

the participants.

The students were expected to design, model and build an RC Airplane, prior to the event. The

event comprised of two rounds. The first round constituted takeoff, inside loop, hammer head,

Cuban eight, and landing on the runway, and 10 points were allotted for this round. The second

round was payload drop, where the airplane had to drop the payload inside the circle, and then

land on the runway. The payload had to be in the range of 100-150 gm. A Crash time of 3 minutes

was given for each team.

The event started at 11 am on 1st March, with student registrations, distribution of deliverables and

checking of the models made by students for design specifications. The rules were explained to

the students. It was mandatory for the models to be designed by the students themselves, no

ready-to-fly models were permitted. 40participants, which included 8 groups from MVJCE and 2

groups from various colleges in and outside Bangalore, participated in the event. The event ended

with the announcement of the winners, and distribution of prizes and participation certificates.

Cash prizes of Rs.7500, Rs.5000 and Rs.3000 were given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners,

respectively.

It was a good opportunity for the students to build models and implement different maneuvers.

We thank the Organizing Committee, Faculty and Student Coordinators for the grand success of

the event.
