Taking a Reading With Your Compass Rotate the bezel such that the Red N and the Red portion of the needle aligns. This indicates the magnetic North. Ensure you do not move or rotate the compass when you do this. Hold your compass parallel to a level surface.The arrow should be pointing towards the direction you intend to take i.e. the entrance of the building. The White notch on the fixed blue dial marks the exact direction the compass is pointing at. The Black numerals on the inner ring indicate the 24 mountains, so you can tell at a glance which sub-sector of direction the door faces.
