THEMATIC UPDATES

Promoting Sustainable Livelihood in Flood Prone Area

In flood prone area, community is dependent on agriculture for food. Failed crop cycle & inability to feed their family force them to migrate, Vis-a Vis increase incidence of malnutrition among family members. Siddharthnagar district falls in the agro-climatic region of ‘upper gangetic plains' 'north-eastern plain' zone. There are several constraints of low productivity such as usar soil, Lack of macro and micro nutrients, Low Organic Carbon and low canal irrigated area.

The key purpose of project supported by Sir Jamset Ji Tata Trust is to increase food security and improve the socio- economic condition of small & marginal farmers through farm activities. In last year project has strengthened livelihood options of community. They were introduced to adopting cow pat pit manure, pruning technology in pulses, and drum seeder in intensification of rice, onion cultivation in kharif and crop diversification into existing system. Livelihood micro-plan of selected were developed for whole year. They were also equipped with knowledge & skill through capacity building. Women have also started income generation activities which add value to their existing income & quality of life. The results were quite encouraging as it has increased income of farmers from previous year.

Building Climate Resilient Livelihood & Economic

Leadership of Women Farmers

In the feudal background of eastern Uttar Pradesh, schedule caste was always left from mainstreaming. They have limited control over resources. If they were women, they were doubly alienated from inclusion in the system. Recent climate aberration has further jeopardized their conventional weather based livelihood systems. In Uttar Pradesh, women farmers constitute around 38 percent of total agriculture workforce. But, their access to government schemes and programs, mainstream credit institutions is very limited. One of the prime reasons behind the current deprived status of women farmer

The key purpose of project supported by Oxfam India is to increased resilience and improved income of smallholders, specifically women farmers’. In last year, SEs has mobilized small & marginal farmer especially women & consolidates their spirit in group form. They have adopted holistic farming systems in small landholding, innovated practices for climate resilient agriculture practices.

Regarding current situation of environment & to focus their role for conservation of environment. India is of largest youth population in the world today. The entire world is eyeing India as a source of technical manpower. For better development of country, health of youth shall priority for development of youth. Youth have the right to lead healthy lives especially their sexual & reproductive rights. Menace of Child Marriage is marring the ability the youth. UP alone accounts for 15% underage marriages, which highest in the country. Promoting Community Health Action for Service Delivery

Healthcare is the right of every individual but lack of quality infrastructure, dearth of qualified medical functionaries, and non- access to basic medicines and medical facilities thwarts its reach to 60% of population in India. Considering the picture of grim facts there is a dire need of new practices and procedures to ensure that quality and timely healthcare reaches the deprived corners. The Community Health service delivery projects were begun in Siddharthnagar district last year. The project is supported by JamsetJi Tata Trust.

In The target area too, non- accessibility to public health care and low quality of health care services, a majority of people turn to the local private health sector as their first choice of care. The key purpose of project is to establish community in groups where they can easily access health care facilities & demand for their health rights. Children are the future hope and get better opportunities to enhance their all-round development. Rights are those conditions that ensure the opportunity to enjoy the fundamental needs so as to enhance one's dignity and prosperity. Water Security Plan

Figure 8: Awareness of School Children & School

Because water is a basic need for all life and good health, access to enough safe water, or water security, is defined as a human right by international law. Water is nature’s gift, but there is a limit to what nature can provide. In many places the amount of water for drinking is becoming dangerously low. Where land has been paved and trees cut down, rain that once soaked into the ground and was stored as groundwater now runs off into the ocean and becomes salt water. Much of the water that is left is too polluted for human use. The key purpose of project Supported by Minsitry of Drinking water, government of India is to pilot model for achieving drinking water security through convergence and participatory integrated water resources management, SES undertook block Mauranipur of district Jhansi for Water Security Plan. Last Year, 55 water security plan of panchayat is submitted to district of Jhansi. These plan shall be implemented by government department in coming year.
