Background
Bending moment is the total of bending that occurs in a beam. The calculation of bendingmoment is used to identify where the greatest bending takes place. Type of load and its
location can impact on the overall bending of a beam. The load are place at different distance
with different quantity of load.
Moment measured as a force multiplied by a distance ( M = F x d ) ,so they have as
unit newton-metres (Nm). The forces and moments on either side of the section must be
equal in order to counteract each other and maintain a state ofequilibrium.
Bending (also known as flexure) characterizes the behaviour of a slenderstructural element
subjected to an external load applied perpendicularly to a longitudinal axis of the element.
