INTRODUCTION

Repair a stiff screen hinge before it breaks. Do it as soon as you ear some cracking when opening orclosing the screen.

Step 1 — The big snap

For a couple of months I washearing some cracking whenopening my laptop but never paidmuch attention. Big mistake. The lefthinge was getting stuck, twisting theplastic cover corner to its limit. Untilthe hinge completely blocked todayand the screen top snapped andslightly opened, as you can see inthe picture.

Step 2 — Wrong way...

As the screen cover was alreadyslightly open, the first thing I triedwas to finish opening it. Don't do




this! It has some hidden screws soyou need to start by removing thelaptop bottom cover.

Step 3 — From the bottom

You need to start from the laptopbottom cover, return it and place itbottom up on the table, then removethe bottom cover's 10 screws, thebottom cover comes out pretty easy.

Then remove the round plasticprotection (see picture). This wasn'tso easy, it was kind of twisted with afew fixation tags broken, but after awhile I managed to get it out.

Step 4

Now I can see the hinge that is causing the problem and the broken plastic around it.




To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Step 5 — Finally, the hinge

At this point you can probablyloosen the 6mm bolt at the end ofthe hinge and that's all there is to it.But if you can't reach it thencontinue to the following steps.

Remove the 6 screws to take out thehinge. There is also one screwbelow the screens cover securingthe hinge but in my case it wasbroken. If its still in place then youneed to take out the screen covernow. There are a few screws toremove but I'm not sure where, as Ididn't need to take it out.

Once you have the hinge in yourhand check if its broken. If not thenuse a strong pliers and loosen the6mm bolt until it moves easily.Remember that it must resist aminimum to rotation so that thescreen doesn't fall on its own, whenyou open the laptop to work.

I had to make mine pretty soft inorder to prevent the already twistedplastic from breaking completely.

Now you just have to put it alltogether and you're finished.

And remember: if it starts cracking,fix it as soon as possible!
