This insurance provides a limited amount of coverage for personal property and may be extended to cover the personal property owned by family members and guests while it is on the resident’s premises. Answers to Common Renter’s Insurance Questions

Wh at s h o u l d I d o i f I h a v e a c l a i m t o r e p o r t ?

In the event of a claim, please call Lloyd’s of London at888-203-9704 and provide the representative with thepolicy number, #BWP071396 , and the Named Insured,Atlantic Marine Corps Communities LLC. A lossadjustor will then be assigned to handle your claim. Youshould also advise the property manager that a claim hasbeen filed with Lloyd’s of London.

In the event of a loss, the following duties apply:1. Give Lloyd’s of London prompt notice of the loss or

damage.

2. Notify police in case of loss by theft.

3. Protect the property from further damage. If repairs tothe property are required, the resident must:a. make reasonable and necessary repairs to protect

the property; andb. keep an accurate record of repair expenses.

4. Cooperate with Lloyd’s of London in the investigation ofthe claim.

5. Prepare an inventory of damaged personal propertyshowing the quantity, description, actual cash valueand amount of loss. Attach all bills, receipts andrelated documents that justify the figures in theinventory.

6. As often as reasonably required,a. show the damaged property;b. provide Lloyd’s of London with records and

documentsthey request and allow them to make copies;c. submit to an examination under oath.

7. Send within 60 days of Lloyd’s of London’s request asigned, sworn proof of loss setting forth:a. the time and cause of loss;b. the interest of the resident and all others in the

property involved;c. other insurance which may cover the loss;d. changes in title or occupancy of the property during

the term of the policy;e. the inventory of damaged personal property.

H o w M u c h i s t h e De d u c t i b l e ?The contents deductible under the policy is $250 peroccurrence, and for Earthquake and Flood, and $500 forloss of use and Named Windstorm. There is no liabilitydeductible.

Who Covers the Deduct ib l e?The resident is responsible for the deductible.

Wh o p a ys t h e p r e m i u m ? This coverage is provided as a benefit to all active dutymilitary residents in privatized housing. The premiumsare paid directly by Atlantic Marine CorpsCommunities LLC.

S o w h a t a r e m y g o o d s w o r t h ?You need to be familiar with several important insurance terms whencalculating the value of your household items. The three terms youshould be familiar with are: original cost, replacement cost, and actualcash value.

Original cost is how much you paid for an item.

Replacement cost is how much you would have to pay to replace theitem with a new one today.

Actual cash value is calculated differently by different insurers. Most

insurance companies define actual cash value as an item’s replacementcost less depreciation. The depreciation percentage is how long you hadthe item compared to its expected life.

D o es t h e p o l i c y p a y d a m a g e s o n a n a c t u a l c a s h v a l u e o r r e p l a c e m e n t c o s t b a s i s ? Recovery under the policy is on the basis of replacement cost providedthat you submit to the insurance company documentation of thereplacement cost value within 180 days of the loss. If you do not supplythe documentation within 180 days, damages will be paid at actual cashvalue.

D o es t h e i n s u r a n c e c o v e r n a t u r a l d i s a s t e r s ?1.) The peril of flood (except Zones A & V Flood, Coastal Barriers &

other special flood hazard areas) is covered subject to a$20,000,000 Per Occurrence Limit2.) Earthquake and Named Windstorm coverage is provided up to a

$20,000,000 per occurrence sub-limit.

D o es t h e p o l i c y c o v e r p e r s o n a l e f f ec t s s t o r e d i n a g a r a g eor car-por t ?Yes, as along as the property is covered under the policy. However, youshould take the necessary steps to safeguard property located in thegarage or car-port.

D o es t h e p o l i c y p r o v i d e c o v e r a g e f o r r e c r e a t i o n a le q u i p m e n t ?The policy excludes property such as motor vehicles and aircraft. The

policy does cover motor vehicles not required to be registered for use onpublic roads, or property which is used solely to service an insured’sresidence, or designed to assist the handicapped. Non-motorizedequipment such as bicycles, kayaks and surfboards would be covered asPersonal Property. Motorized vehicles, such as automobiles,motorcycles, and RVs are not covered.

D o es t h e p o l i c y c o v e r J e w e l r y a n d o t h e r v a l u a b le s ?Limited coverage is provided. Please be sure to read Section 1.3 -Property Coverages, Special Limits of Liability, under the policy. A copyof the insurance policy is available for inspection at the PropertyManagement Office.

c o v e r a g e s w o u l d a p p l y ?For Liability claims, coverage is excess over the other valid andcollectible insurance. Claims should be filed with all carriers whosecoverage may apply.

For Property claims, the policy contains what is called an “otherinsurance” clause. If a loss covered by this policy is also covered byother insurance, this policy will only pay the proportion of the loss thatthe limit of liability that applies under this policy bears to the total amountof insurance covering the loss.
