Know when to buy, sell or refinance your home

The Nevada home market has seen significant progress over recent years. The challenge now for most home owners and prospective buyers is what to do as the market rises. Here are some quick tips from United Federal Credit Union to help you make your decision.

Home values - As home values rise, the equity in your home increases. You could use those available dollars to finance renovation projects and turn your current home into your dream home. A redesigned kitchen or an additional room could keep you from having to move. Often times, the improvements pay for a portion of themselves as they impact the value of your existing home. However, if a renovation plan won’t solve your family’s needs, it may be time to sell.

Interest rates – Mortgage rates are currently at historic lows. That’s good news for those looking to refinance and for those actively searching for a new home. If your home has ever been underwater (valued less than was owed), consider visiting UFCU for a mortgage checkup. By refinancing, you could: lower your monthly payment, eliminate private mortgage insurance (PMI) or even cut years off

your mortgage. For new home buyers, a UFCU mortgage expert can help you better understand your options as you shop and could even prequalify you for a loan.

Inventory – With new businesses moving to town and existing ones expanding, the housing market has a limited home inventory. This means you will have an easier time selling your home than buying your next one. Speak to your Realtor about conditional sales agreements that will allow you a short time frame to sell your existing residence before moving into a new home.

As always, UFCU’s friendly mortgage experts are available for a free consultation to help you better understand all of your home loan options.

Thank you to our 2015 Corporate Sponsors for your involvement and support of The Chamber.

A key part of having a great online presence is having backlinks to your website. One way to achieve this (that has extra benefits) is to claim as many online directory listings for your company as possible.

Take Action! Claim the big 3 directories: Google, Yahoo! and Bing. Then find other directories where you can be listed. Search Google for “list of online directories” and you will find many options for your business.

As always, make sure your NAP (Name, Address and Phone) are exactly the same on each! This is critical for online success.

DIRECTIONS 2015 RECAP — Engines of Change: Disruption - Innovation - Job Creation

It was an incredible honor that businesses and community leaders from across Northern Nevada joined The Chamber for the 23rd Annual DIRECTIONS Forum on February 5th. What began as a series of distinct but singular ideas, developed into a cohesive storyline on the full potential of the future of Northern Nevada. With 700 attendees engaged during the eight speakers and visiting the 40 exhibitors throughout the four-hour DIRECTIONS program, we saw energy, inspiration, and community growth. The day kicked-off with the singing of the National Anthem led by Sierra Nevada MasterWorks Chorale and an appearance by Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison. Jeremy Aguero from Applied Analysis reviewed the outlook on Nevada’s economy. Retired Lt. Col. Warren “Bum” Rapp of UNR’s Nevada Advanced Autonomous Systems Innovation Center speech was titled “NAASIC: Understanding and Implementing Advanced Technologies” which included a discussion on the potential of innovative technologies. Mike Kazmierski, of EDAWN, spoke about the NEW Reno-Sparks and the challenges we face in the future. Our morning continued with a talk from the RTKL delegation addressing downtown Reno redevelopment options. Jon Ralston rounded out the day with a preview of the 2015 legislative session. Adding elements such as polling questions to engage the audience and a special appearance by the 2014 Cadillac ELR Coupe from NV Energy created an atmosphere that celebrated business. Attendees walked away from the forum with renewed energy to bring back to their employees and businesses. A big thanks goes to our sponsors and their involvement in DIRECTIONS 2015! It has been a privilege to partner with each of you.

Nevadans are not strangers to innovation and success. Our businesses are the vanguards of our time, and DIRECTIONS, envisioned by a committee of your peers, attests to the power of those who dare to look beyond. We hope you’ll join us next year for the 24th Annual DIRECTIONS Forum!
