November 17, 2019 Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three

RENEW MY CHURCH (continued from page 1) • St. Matthias School will remain in its current

program as an IB World School. It will be governed as an archdiocesan school not connected to any particular parish. The pastor assigned to our new parish or another priest will be serve as the school chaplain. The pastor of our new parish will have a seat on the St. Matthias School Board as of July 1, 2020.

• St. Hilary and Transfiguration of our Lord Parishes will unite as a new parish, effective July 1, 2020. St. Hilary Church will be designated the parish church. Transfiguration Church will close as a site of regular worship.

• St. Hilary School will continue in its current program and will be the parish school of the new parish.

• The Priests’ Placement Board is working to decide who will be the pastor of each new parish, whether that will be one of the current parish priests or a new pastor from outside the grouping. The announcement is expected by March 2020 with the Pastor to take up the role July 1.

• For each newly formed parish, the leaders and parishioners will discern possibilities for the name of the new parish, within guidelines provided by the archdiocese, and submit their considerations to Cardinal Cupich for his decision on the permanent name of each new parish. This might be a combination of the two names or a completely different name. The church buildings and school buildings will keep their current names, it is the parish that gets a new name

• The Renew My Church Commission recommended all regularly scheduled Masses transition to each respective parish church (St. Hilary and Queen of Angels) no later than November 28-29, 2020 (First Sunday of Advent 2020).

• All 3 schools must maintain independence from archdiocesan financial support in order to continue. .

Please read the full text of the decision flyer available in the back of church and on the parish website for more detail about the reasoning behind these decisions and some thoughts on the next steps of the Renew My Church process. Further developments will be shared on the parish website and at weekend Masses. We may know that change is necessary because we have few priests and limited resources, but that does not make the changes easy to bear. We will need time in prayer and conversation to process the meaning of these changes, communicate our feelings constructively with one another, and most importantly, grieve for what is lost. Please pray especially for our neighbors at St. Matthias and Transfiguration who face the closing of their church buildings. When one part of the Body of Christ is suffering, all parts suffer with it. Visit RenewMyChurch.org for more information, or ask me. —Monsignor Jim Kaczorowski, Pastor

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT dePAUL REFLECTS The Gospel predicted end times; our challenge though is to live faithfully now. St. Vincent often asked this simple question: “What would Jesus Christ do, if he were in my place now?” Ask yourself “What would Jesus Christ do?” and then put your gift in the Society of St Vincent dePaul Poor Box, so that those who are suffering will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving.

CHILDREN AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Can children recover from witnessing or experiencing domestic violence or abuse? Each child responds differently to abuse and trauma. Some children are more resilient, and some are more sensitive. How successful a child is at recovering from abuse or trauma depends on several things, including having:

• A good support system or good relationships with trusted adults

• High self-esteem • Healthy friendships

Although children will probably never forget what they saw or experienced during the abuse of themselves or of others in their household, they can learn healthy ways to deal with their emotions and memories as they mature. The sooner a child gets help, the better his or her chances for becoming a mentally and physically healthy adult.
