Today LANCOME has tapped into a science that gives us a new reading of skin's most intricate structures: STRUCTURAL BIOLOGYwe have used the principles of structural biology to identify, item by item, each of skin's building blocks.

From the very smallest to the most obvious, to explore the connections between them and, level by level, layer by layer, come to understand the complex organisation of the structure as a whole.

Structural biology is a science which allows us to understand the skin, its structure and how alterations in their structures affect the function of the skin. We know today that even the slightest changes in skin structure can alter our youthful look.

Our research has told us that skin is composed of, not just 3, but 5 interactive and interconnected layers.

The epidermis, the dermal-epidermal junction, the superficial dermis, the deep dermis and the hypodermis and running through this continuous architecture are a series of connections that hold the layers together

A new reading of the skin

So what is connecting the 5 layers together? They are connected with 10 different proteins, defined as skin connectors. For RENERGIE Multi-Lift, and for the very first time in the cosmetic industry, we have targeted no fewer than 10 of these connectors, 5 of these are new and were identified by Lancome. For healthy skin, these connectors must be present and correctly connected to their surrounding structures

what is it that these connectors do? they play five major roles:

Collagen VI in the hypodermis, firms the deepest layer of the skin creating a firm and solid base for skins architecture. A stable architecture is build on a stable, solid base, the same is accurate for our skin. Mooving up to the deep dermis, the already big collagens I and 3 and the thinner collagen types 1 and 3, get higher and more numerous. The skin beams are now risen. The facit collagen 12 and 16 links and attaches the collagen, the skin beams, together.

In the superficial dermis, the collagen fibres becomes more densely packed, they are also assembled together with the help of Lumicans. The structure is starting to come together.

In the Dermo Epidermal Junction, collagen 7 and and integrins help link the epidermis to dermis by attaching the layers togetherAnd the finishing? Well, by gripping the epidermal cells together with claudins and cadherins the structure is complete and visibly lifted.

5 new skin connectors, who are they?

I'm sure it's becoming obvious to you – we have used our latest findings to give the term cosmetic lift a totally new meaning We have developed a brand new technology, named MULTI TENSION TECHNOLOGY,

This rich cocktail of active ingredients, addresses skin's highly complex structure combining natural extracts such as kombushka, linseed and soy, with potent ingredients including adenosine, a hyaluronic acid fraction and an oligopeptide.

The secret in lifting is to build skins architecture from the depth of the skin and all the way up, through all 5 layers of the skin, even the deepest, by re-connecting the layers by targeting all of skins 10 connectors. A stable architecture is created. Another example: The Eiffel tower was not built from the top, it was built from the ground up. So lifting the skin by targeting only the top layers of the skin is no longer enough, for a complete lifting and a visible reduction of wrinkles, the skin must be lifted on all 5 layers.

The range: As both the texture and the fragrance of Renergie Lift Volumetry were loved and preferred infront of competitor ranges, we decided to keep it.

For the more classical renergie client we have also developed an eye cream with Multi-Tension Technology, for those not tempted by RYML and the illuminating top formula.

But what about women's expectations today?Coming back to womens expectations in lifting: In short, light has become as important as lift.

We know that as we age, the quality of skin's pigments, blood supply and skin micro relief deteriorates, this affects the skintone. Also, as skin becomes less and less smooth, our skin surface can no longer reflect light as well. LANCOME has the solution, we have invented a new generation of tinted skin care, that simultaneously lifts and illuminates the skin

4 unique shades based on womens individual needs. We no longer colour match with these shades, the tints are based on how different skintones changes with age. Each skintone is unique and so are these shades.

Our research laboratories carried out a massive study involving 2900 women. 4 different skin tones have been identified, they also found that each of these skin tone changes differently with age. We can see that fair/rosy skin with mostly red pigment and which does not tan in the sun but are prone to vascularities, turns red with age. Fair/beige prone to freckles and dark spots, a skintone which first get red and than tans in the sun, often turns yellow with ageA golden/beige skin which tans easily in the sun, has more yellow pigments and are often bothered by unevenness and dark spots, often turns more olive with age. The darker skintones which tans deeply and are prone to patches turns grey with age.

Our colour specialists have developed four shades to even out the complexion and allow skin to capture light. They also correct colour changes due to ageing.

Renergie Eclat contains a combination of BIOCHROMATIC technology and MULTITENSION technology.For the very first time, we have used a new generation of ochres, fantastically pure Italian ochres which are much more transparent than conventional pigments – with an obvious advantage: vibrant, transparent colours, allowing light to penetrate into the skin.
