WELCOME

THIS issue of Renault Business sits at an important juncturein Groupe Renault UK’s year. It comes at the conclusion of afabulous first half of the year with sales out-performing themarket two to one. Plus, we’re previewing the most importantcar we have launched in years – All-New Renault Kadjar –which we expect to account for 20% of our Renault carvolumes in 2016.

It’s probably best to start with the figures, which for the firsthalf of 2015 were outstanding. Groupe Renault UK sales wereup 16% – outpacing the UK market growth of 8% – with bothour cars and vans gaining market share.

Our highly acclaimed Dacia range also grew by 11% – againoutpacing the UK market growth.

Essentially then, Groupe Renault UK has significantlyoutperformed the UK market growth. By any measure, thatsuggests a great year in store, but things look even brighterstill for the remaining months, because we launch our new C-segment crossover, All-New Renault Kadjar. In the fast-growing C-segment crossover market, All-New RenaultKadjar will be a pivotal car; in the fleet sector particularly, where we have a guaranteed recipe for success.

The All-New Renault Kadjar has style, sophistication, practicality and great driving appeal, underpinned byexcellent drivetrains with CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km.Then, the icing on the cake is that that industry experts haveforecast best-in-class residual values for this vehicle. Theresult is a company car that works for the driver in terms oftheir lifestyle, and their tax bill, and also ticks every box for afleet manager too, with highly competitive whole-life costs.

Situated at the very epicentre of our fleet proposition, All-New Renault Kadjar will offer a genuinely attractive C-segment crossover car, surrounded by an efficient, popularB-segment range and trusted vans to suits all purposes. Plusour Renault Z.E. range offering an exciting alternative mobilitysolution, with Renault ZOE sales in the first half of 2015already outpacing sales for the whole of 2014!

So the second half of 2015 looks exciting for GroupeRenault UK and our growing number of fleet customers, andthat momentum should carry on into 2016 and beyond withmany more exciting product launches to come.

ALL-NEW KADJAR

All-New Renault Kadjar delivers on whole-life costs tooThe All-New Renault Kadjar has been given best-in-class residualvalues from independent valuation experts CAP.

CAP is predicting average residual values of 43% for the Kadjarrange after three years and 60,000 miles. This is at least threepercentage points better than any of its six major rivals from Europeand South Korea.

Coming on top of highly competitive pricing, low insurance ratesand efficient engines which reduce fuel consumption and taxation, this is a further pointer to the all-round low running costs Kadjarfleets can expect.

Every version of the All-New Kadjar will retain at least 42% of its listprice over the assessment period, says CAP. Some rivals lose almostthree-quarters of what the owner paid in the same time frame, according to CAP. All-New Kadjar also promises best-in-class Total Costof Ownership (TCO) and Service, Maintenance and Repair (SMR) costs.

Renault recently announced highly competitive pricing from just£17,995 for Kadjar, with insurance in low-cost bands from 14E to 18E.

As with all Renaults, customer peace of mind is reinforced by thecomprehensive 4+ warranty and roadside rescue package. Thisprovides a four-year/100,000-mile warranty (unlimited in the firsttwo years) and four years’ roadside rescue cover, which includesthree years of Europe-wide assistance.

But with sales of Captur exceedingexpectations, it has not been a case ofresting on laurels. “We found that only theKangoo offered practicalspace for the rear passengers.”

ONFLEET

A Yorkshire scaffolding provider, Burflex Scaffolding has added47 Renault Kangoo Maxi LL21 long wheelbase crew vans to itsgrowing fleet. These are the company’s first Renault vans, chosen for their ability to carry both people and PPE equipmentto sites throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

“After looking at several manufacturers’ crew vans, we foundthat only the Kangoo offered practical space for the rearpassengers,” said Burflex General Manager, Anthony Jessop.

“Along with hard wearing interior material choices, they weremore suited to our role. Added benefits were the level offeatures included within the vans, the reliability of the Renault

DCi engine and the four year warranty/recovery package thatRenault provides with Kangoo.”

All of the vans have been purchased on a four-year financepackage from Lombard. The Kangoos are ply lined for addeddurability and will be used to transport staff and theirrequired personal safety equipment to construction sitesacross the Yorkshire regions, covering around 20,000 milesper year.

“The Kangoos are standard, but with a factory-set speedlimiter, set at 68mph, for maximum economy and a reducedcarbon footprint,” said Mr Jessop.

CASE STUDY EVEREST

ONE of the UK’s leading home improvement specialists,Everest, has invested in a fleet of Renault vans that havebeen specifically tailored to meet the company’sindividual requirements. Best known for its double glazedwindows, doors and conservatories, Everest has morethan 400 Renault vans on the fleet, working throughoutthe UK. The LM35 sitson a long wheelbase with a medium height roof, offeringa 13m3 load volume in front-wheel drive format anddelivering the perfect combination of load carrying abilityand easy manoeuvrability for domestic installations.

All of the vans are operated by the firm’s teams ofinstallation fitters, who specialise not only in providingglazing solutions, but also carry out solar panelinstallation, flat roof construction, the laying of drivewaysand the provision of domestic security systems.

The vans have been supplied through Renault RetailGroup and arrive with local dealers in Everest’s distinctivelivery. They also come fully equipped with a ply lining anda range of racking systems in the load area, to suit theiroperating use. Renault’s conversion package for Everestalso includes the supply and installation of both internaland external glass-carrying racks and rails, plus roofracking and roof-mounted storage tubes.

“The Renault Master LM35 suits our business needsperfectly, providing ample internal space for all of ourspecialist install equipment,” said Everest FleetManager, David Coeshall.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Twizy rental fleet takes to the New Forest VISITORS to the New Forest National Park and Isle ofWight can now explore some of the UK’s best-knownscenic areas in a fleet of 26 Renault Twizy hire vehicles.

Hire a Twizy, a subsidiary of The Electrik VehicleCompany, offers electric travel between touristattractions, hotels and pubs in the region, supported byan established and growing network of charging points. The company is also working with ferry operators todeploy vehicles at ports on the Isle of Wight.

Founder, Chris Beach, says the Twizy’s 50-mile rangesuits the local routes, while its ability to be charged ona domestic socket means additional charging pointsare cheap to roll out. The company hopes to addanother 50 units in the coming months, and to equipvehicles with luggage racks and pre-programmedsatellite navigation.

“It’s absolutely perfect,” he explained. “Mostjourneys around these areas are short, and we’repicking up a strong recharging infrastructure, whichwe’re building too. It’s quite an outdoorsy product, sodrivers feel in touch with the process, and the roadsand lanes are perfect.”

Mr Beach also sees a much wider role for the Twizy, with plans underway to establish two further bases inWales and opportunities to deploy them on short-distance fleets such as estate agents and, for the TwizyCargo, as a delivery vehicle for businesses.

“People are running around in vans but carrying smalllocal products, so the vans aren’t full,” he said. “I believethere’s a great opportunity for zero carbon productswith no fuel, no VED, and which can be plugged in whilemaking deliveries.”

Restructured ZOE line-up includes class-leading rangeFollowing surging sales in the UK for the first half of 2015, the ZOE now features a revised trim structureincluding a new drivetrain with a class-leading 149-mile NEDC range*.

Renault sold 949 electric vehicles during the first six months of the year, up 145.9% on the same periodof 2014. The ZOE outstripped that growth rate even further, achieving a 244.0% increase to 767 units.

The new trim line-up follows petrol and diesel models, comprising Expression Nav and Dynamique Navversions. Pricing starts at £13,445 after the Plug-in Car Grant, and the ZOE i with the battery included willcontinue to be offered.

Both trim levels will get the new R240 motor, named after its range in kilometres. Atthe cutting edge of Renault’s electric drivetrain technology, performance is still class-leading but it’s smaller and features improved electronic management, boostingreal-world range to between 71 and 106 miles.

Its new optional Chameleon charging system enables faster top-ups fromdomestic sockets, with an 80% charge available in as little as an hour.Drivers needing rapid charging ability can opt for the power unit offeredsince the launch, but don’t get the longer range.

Alongside the new ZOE range, the Twizy will be offered in Expression,Dynamique and Cargo versions, the latter offering a 180-litre storage areainstead of a rear seat.

ZOE cuts carbon at TAG Farnborough AirportEurope’s largest business terminal, TAG Farnborough Airport, has deployed a fleet of three RenaultZOEs as on-site staff shuttles as it pursues ongoing reductions in its carbon footprint.

The trio help meet goals set out by the airport’s sustainability charter, which includes vehicleemissions, waste management and energy usage.

Miles Thomas, Environment Manager at TAG Farnborough Airport, said: “We monitor our carbonfootprint very closely across all our services and departments, and being able to reduce theenvironmental impact of the staff vehicle movements across the airport was a driving factor for us.

“We looked at all the electric vehicles on the market but only the ZOE ticked all our boxes. Thecar offers low running costs and zero emissions* and it’s also small, functional, simple andenjoyable to drive and has an impressive range.

“The reaction of our staff to the three ZOEs has been fantastic and very positive. People areenjoying driving them and we’ll definitely be looking to add more EVs to our fleet as a result.”

and consumption. Range is influenced by several factors including speed, driving style, road conditions, use of electric accessories and external temperature.

ONE of the closest-fought championships in thecalendar, the season began in Beijing lastSeptember, with 10 one-day rounds held in majorcities across four continents, concluding with a two-event final round on the streets of London.

All ten teams feature two drivers, competing inidentical 270bhp single-seat electric racing cars, co-developed by series technical sponsor Renault SportTechnologies. The Spark-Renault SRT01_E not onlyoffers invaluable research and developmentopportunities into electric drivetrains for roadgoingvehicles, but it proves the reliability of the technologyand sets a level playing field for drivers.

This was reflected by an incredibly close start to theseason, with six different winners in the first six racesand no guaranteed winner as it entered its final round.Sébastien Buemi looked to be on course to take thetitle but, following a spin on his out lap which cost hima place, the Swiss driver finished seventh. The Londone-Prix was won by Sam Bird of Virgin Racing.

Nextev TCR’s Nelson Piquet took the Driver’sChampionship title by a single point, with only 11points separating the top three positions. Aconsistent performance put e.dams-Renault at thetop of the team standings, with drivers SébastienBuemi and Nicolas Prost finishing in second andsixth place respectively at the end of the season.

Vehicle testing is now underway ahead of thesecond Formula E Championship, which begins inBejing this autumn.

Patrice Ratti, Managing Director of Renault SportTechnologies, said: “This season has been a verysuccessful one. With Spark, we have managed toachieve an unprecedented level of performance andreliability for this technology. And then from asporting point of view, with the teams’ title fore.dams-Renault, brilliantly led by Alain Prost andJean-Paul Driot. Finally, it has been a success for theteams of Alejandro Agag, who has given us thismagnificent championship.

“We are determined to come back stronger nextseason thanks to our expertise in the field of electricvehicles, against new rivals in an open formula.”

Following its climactic round in London, theinaugural all-electric FIA Formula EChampionship has named its first everchampion, with e.dams-Renault finishing theseason at the top of the team standings.

“e.dams-Renaultfinished the seasonat the top of theteam standings...”

Renault’s role in Formula E is the latest in a longhistory of game-changing innovations.

HatchbacksWith its large, top-hingedtailgate and folding rear seats, the Renault 4 was a work vanand family car in one. Launched

in 1961, this was the world’s first mass-producedhatchback, going on to sell over eight million cars inits 33-year lifespan.

Downsizing and TurbochargingIn 1977, Renault’s Formule RS 01car took on a grid of 3.0-litrecompetitors with a 1.5-litreturbocharged engine. The first

turbocharged Formula 1 car took 15 victories between1979 and 1983, and rivals quickly followed suit.

SuperminisLaunched just before the 1973oil crisis, the Renault 5’s chicstyling and frugality made it aninstant hit. Features such as

deformable plastic bumpers and a rigid safety cellwent on to influence an entirely new market segmentin the decade that followed.

MPVsWith its TGV-inspired styling andheavily glazed interior featuringseven individual, removableseats, the Espace was a pioneer

of the MPV segment in 1984. Flexibility which hassince been successfully downsized into other trend-setting small MPVs.

Connected CarsWorking with four partners,Renault began developing atwo-way weather, traffic andlocation information system in

the late 1980s, launching its first navigation systemin 1994. Its modern navigation systems still featurethe CARMINAT name.

Five-Star safetyRenault began researchingcrash testing in 1954, makingsafety a core concern for futurevehicle design. The Laguna II

was the first to achieve a Five-Star Euro NCAP safetyrating in 2001, and has been followed by 14 furthertop results in the years since.

Electric VehiclesThe ZOE is the spearhead ofRenault’s electric vehicletechnology, including an energy-saving heat pump, regenerative

braking, low-friction tyres and the Chameleoncharging system. Yet it’s also the most affordableelectric car on the market.

THE ENVIRONMENT

The Renault Group is achieving tangibleresults and maintaining its objective to significantly reduce the long-termenvironmental footprint of its activities.

INCREASINGLY in business it is not just a case of what you make, but howyou make it, and what its impact is on the wider community. Renault hasbeen a leader in corporate social responsibility for more than two decades, through commitments to reducing environmental impact and safety, and is involved in the latest thinking on ‘the circular economy’.

20 years of commitmentBy making a public commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by10% between 2010 and 2013, and by meeting that objective, theRenault Group achieved an automotive industry first. The Grouphas applied an environmental policy to all its business activities fornearly 20 years, and will continue to work towards a reduction ofits carbon footprint by an average 3% a year between 2010 and2016 in line with world sales forecasts, alongside a continuedreduction in green house gas emissions.

Action on all frontsCO2 emissions are generated by a number of factors, includingvehicle use, the end-of-life process, materials, plants and logistics, and fuels and their extraction. Renault addresses each one ofthese factors to reduce the Group’s carbon footprint worldwideper each vehicle sold.

Vehicle use is responsible for 85% of the Group’s emissions total, and Renault launched the “Renault eco2” program in 2007 with theaims of helping drivers to reduce their carbon footprint by cuttingfuel consumption and CO2 emissions in use. Fitting the entire rangeof “Driving eco2” systems on an internal-combustion vehicle canreduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by as much as 25%, andthe programme is based on two, complementary, pillars: in-car drivingaids and training services.

More efficient vehiclesIn line with the ‘Renault – Passion for Life’ strategic plan, the Group reducedthe average CO2 emissions generated by its new vehicles sold in Europe tounder 120g/km in late 2013. Renault has also downsized the internal-combustion engines across its range to increase fuel efficiency while maintainingand even improving performance.

Renault’s electric vehicles emit zero CO2, and the life-cycle analyses show that, overthe entire vehicle life cycle, the overall environmental impact (including global warming) ofan electric vehicle is nearly half that of an equivalent internal combustion vehicle.

Controlling tertiary emissionsWith the manufacturing phase accounting for 90% of the greenhouse gas emissions of Renault sites,a number of clean-break initiatives have been introduced to modernise manufacturing facilities.

The policy has led to a 15% decrease in five years of the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the energyconsumption required to produce a vehicle. Taking things further, Renault aims to increase the share of direct andindirect renewable energies to 20% at its industrial sites by 2016.

“The circular economy isbecoming increasingly

important in business.”

THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR BUSINESSES

THE concept of the circular economy is becomingincreasingly important in business, and is the principle that

an industrial economy is, by design or intention, restorative, and is intended to counter the linearapproach of ‘take-make-dispose’.

As such, it is about more than just recycling materials, because this can be energy intensive: it is about howwe use objects during their lifespan, reusing, sharingand repairing. The Renault Group has long been asupporter of the circular economy, with a globalapproach based on the optimal use of materialsthroughout the entire life cycle of products, fromdesign to end of life. Renault vehicles built in Europecontain 30% recycled materials and are 95%recoverable at end of life. The group’s aim is forrecycled materials to make up 33% of the totalweight of new vehicles built in Europe by 2016.

To improve the recovery of end-of-life vehicles, dismantling and recycling operations are factoredin during the design stage. For example, dismantlingis made easier by reducing the number of

attachments. Similarly, tanks and containers areshaped so that fuel and oil can be removed in full.

In 2008, the Group created Renault Environment.Through this subsidiary, Renault has developed

technical, logistical and economical solutions forcollecting and processing end-of-life vehicles and for

reusing parts and materials with no loss of quality. The Renault Group is also a founding partner of the Ellen

MacArthur Foundation. The organisation works to promotethe environmental and economic benefits of the circular

economy, and in July 2014, Groupe Renault received the circulareconomy award from the Institut de l’économie circulaire in France

in recognition of its commitment to the cause.

In 1965 Renault unveiled the 16 an innovative hatchback that set the template for half a century of class-leading family cars.

50 YEARS OF FAMILY HATCHBACKS

AND FINALLY...

SELLING nearly two million units in its fifteen-year lifetime, it heralded a number of newideas that are standard in the fleet market today. At the time, a hatchback was not a mass-market layout for families, and its part-car, part-van construction and sliding rear seatsallowed a huge amount of internal space, making it one of the first crossovers too.

Added to that was a then-unusual front wheel drive and part-aluminium powertrain, illustrating it was a car decades ahead of its time.

At the time Pierre Dreyfus – Renault’s CEO from 1955 to 1975 – underlined the type ofinnovative thinking to packaging with a quote that is just as relevant today: “We have totake a different approach. Cars can’t just be four seats and a boot any longer. They mustbe viewed as a volume.”

A history of Renault

launched, Renault has consistently

offered great fleet-friendly C-segment

cars, combininginnovation and

reliability.
