A Company’s Profile – RenaultLuís Sousa Sá – A60936

Renault is a French multinational automobile manufacturer, established in the late 19th century and widely recognizable by its diamond-shaped logo, used since 1972.

Young engineer Louis Renault and his brothers, Marcel and Fernand, founded the Renault Corporation in 1899 and, three years later, the company produced its first engine and filed a patent for the first turbo. In spite of being over than 100 years old, Renault has not lost touch with its French roots; the company’s head office is currently located in Boulogne-Billancourt, France.

Having faced a series of peaks and troughs throughout the 20 th century – from, for instance, becoming Europe’s leading vehicle producer in the late 1970’s to facing bankruptcy in the mid 1980’s –, Renault managed to enter the 21 st

century present in 118 countries, employing 127,086 people in 36 of those and having subsidiaries in 13, spread over 4 continents.

Familiar to several generations of costumers, Renault’s best-selling models are Clio, Twingo, Megane and Laguna. As of 2012, 50% of the group sales are made outside Western Europe and its five biggest markets are France, Brazil, Russia, Germany and Argentina.

Joining forces with Nissan, Renault-Nissan is the world’s 5th largest vehicle manufacturer. Renault alone has annual turnover and profits of 41.27 and 1.735 billion euros, respectively.

As far as its sponsorship activities are concerned, Renault remains close to its core business scope, supporting rallying competitions and the development of Formula 1 engines.

Its current activities are mainly related to production issues, since the company is building a plant in India and launching a new phase of a low-cost one in Morocco.
