Mona LisaBy Vanessa

The Mona Lisa was painted by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci in Florence, Italy. He worked on it between 1503 - 1506 and possibly in 1517. The painting is thought to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini painted with oil on poplar. The painting is a mystery, no one for sure knows who the woman is, or when it was painted, but it is probably the worlds most recognized and famous piece of art. The portrait is on display at the Louvre in Paris, France.

Betrothal of ArnolfiniBy Rhese

The Betrothal of Arnolfini was painted by Jan van Eyck. It was one of his most famous portraits. The Betrothal of

Arnolfini represented an italian merchant, Giovani Arnolfini, who had come to the

Netherlands for buiseness, with his bride, Jeanne De Chenany. In this time period, this type of painting was really rare and interesting. A simple cornere of the real world had suddenly been fixed on to a

panel as if by magic. This painting probably represented a soloem moment-

their betrothal.

The Last SupperBy Vanessa

The Last Supper, also by Leonardo da Vinci was painted

from 1494 through 1498 in Milan, Italy. It is a 15th century mural

painting of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Leonardo da

Vinci didn't want to paint in fresco, because the paint dried

quickly, and he was always chaning the poses of his

characters. The paint peeled off almost immedietly, and artists

and conservationists have been trying to restore it.

Lady with an ErmineBy Ava Lady with an Ermine is a picture of

Cecilia Gallerani. She was the mistress of Ludovico Sforza who was Leonardo da Vinci's employer. Her

family was not rich or noble, but she became well known for her beauty,

her poetry, and her scholarship. This portrait was painted when she was sixteen. She was painted with an

ermine to show purity.

An ermine is a weasel with black on the tail and a brown coat of fur that usually turns white in winter.
