adequate virus protection

Your computer is loaded with Microsoft Security Essentials, a free malicious removal program. In addition to helping remove viruses, it also will help prevent viruses from infecting your computer.

To install, visit Microsoft’s website at:

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Once installed, Microsoft Security Essentials will place an icon on the Taskbar by the system tray.

This icon is what MSE uses to show the security status. Green means that your system is protected and up to date. If it’s either Orange or Red, it needs attention. Make sure to click on it to see what it needs to ensure you’re protected.

Microsoft Security Essentials requires a live internet connection to function properly as it needs to get updates and new information from Microsoft.

ORANGE:

Update – MSE has virus definitions to download so it is aware of potential threats out there – similar to getting a Flu shot every year

Upgrade – MSE has a new update giving it new features to protect your system

Scan – If a scan hasn’t been run on your computer in a while, it will ask to run a quick diagnostic to make sure it hadn’t missed anything.

RED:

Clean – The MSE software has detected a threat that needs your attention to be cleaned. Attempt to clean immediately. The software may ask to Quarantine, which will hide the threat in a place where it cannot do damage.

Activate – The MSE software has been disabled and needs to be activated to work properly

Keep in mind that just because you have Anti-Virus software, it doesn’t mean that you’re fully protected from viruses. Some new threats are unknown to the software and can get through and infect your computer. Be careful where you surf the internet, and be cautious about what you choose to download to your computer, and make sure other users are as careful as you are.
