1 INTRODUCTION
This document describes the actions to be taken to access Cambridge City Council’s remote working system from machines running different operating systems and browsers. It is recommended to adhere to the instructions in Section 2 provided all the caveats are met. Section 3 is the common process to follow for logging in once Section 2 has been followed. 2 INSTALLATION OF QUEST SOFTWARE
The following procedure is supported on PCs and laptops running one of the following operating systems:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (x86 Edition)
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (x86 and x64 Editions)
Windows 8 (x86 and x64 Editions)
Windows 8.1 (x86 and x64 Editions)
Windows 10
Windows Embedded Standard 2009
Windows Embedded Standard 7 and 8
It is also supported on most internet browsers.
This software installation only needs to be performed once on each machine.

2.1 Software Installation Procedure
1. From a browser session type the following as the URL address:
https://remote.cambridge.gov.uk/VDI
2. Select the ‘Downloads’ tab
3. Select the client version for your Operating System
a. ‘vWorkspace Client’ – for Windows Operating Systems. Then go to 2.1.A
b. ‘vWorkspace MAC Client’ – form Apple MACs. Then go to 2.1.B

2.1.1 vWorkspace Client - Windows operating systems
1. Click on the link ‘vWorkspace Client’ and a prompt will come up. Click ‘Run’ to start
the installation
2. Click ‘Next’

3. Select ‘I accept the terms…’ to accept the license agreement then click ‘Next’
4. Enter ‘Cambridge City Council’ as the user name and organization then click ‘Next’

7. Click ‘Install’
8. Once the installation finishes, click ‘Finish’

2.1.2 vWorkspace MAC Client – Apple MACs
1. Click on the link ‘vWorkspace MAC Client’ to download the client
2. Go to your ‘Downloads’ folder and launch ‘vworkspace_mac_8.5.0.163.dmg’
3. Run ‘Web Access Connector.app’

4. Click ‘Open’
5. Click ‘Install’ (Close Safari if it is still open)
6. Enter your credentials to start installation
7. Once your credentials have been confirmed, the application will start installation.
Once it’s finished, the window below will come up. Click ‘Close’ to finish installation
8. After installation, follow instruction to login in Section 3

3 Logging Into the Remote Working System
3.1 From Your Own Machine/Network
1. From a browser session type the following as the URL address: https://remote.cambridge.gov.uk
2. Enter your login credentials
a. User Name – your normal Windows login (eg. hunt1s)
b. Password – your normal Windows password combined with your six digit
SecurEnvoy passcode (eg. Password123456)

3. Once you’ve logged in successfully, you will get a list of all the VDI Desktop that you
have access to. Click on the VDI Desktop icon that you need.
4. After clicking on a VDI icon, you will get a new window on the bottom-right corner of
your screen showing the Desktop you’re connecting to (as below)
5. Once logged in, your Desktop will be presented. Accessing files and applications is
the same as it would be from your normal Cambridge machine.

3.2 From Cambridge City Council Network
1. To access the system as a virtual desktop infrastructure user (VDI) when using a computer connected
to the council network, open a browser window and type the following as the URL address:
http://workspace/vdi
2. Enter your login credentials
a. User Name – your normal Windows login (eg. hunt1s)
b. Password – your normal Windows password

4 Customization
1.1. Returning to your PC/Laptop while connected to your VDI
Desktop
Press Ctrl+Alt+Break keyboard keys and you will have access to your local machine
1.2. Change the preferences when working remotely
From the webpage (https://remote.cambridge.gov.uk after logging in), go to the
‘Preferences’ tab
The ‘Display’ tab allows customization of the size of the screen and colour depth

The ‘Local Resources’ tab identifies what local resources (sound, Windows keys) are carried into the session
The ‘Experience’ tab allows the customization of the quality of the session
