A Letter from Father Anderson

My message for you this month is brief. The Church season of Lent is upon us again and

we are all invited, even called, to walk more closely with our faith in these days and weeks.

In the words of the Ash Wednesday liturgy we are invited to the observance of a holy Lent.

My prayer for us this Lent is that we may all find our way to such an observance.

A good place to start is to commit to be at Christ Church each Sunday morning. In many

ways we are a small parish, a family, and when you aren’t with us on a Sunday you are

missed. The next thing to do is to be with us for Adult Formation/Education each week be-

ginning at 9:15am. We are reading together the book The Powers of God and the gods of

Power by Daniel Migliore and discussing the book chapter by chapter each week. You

don’t have to have read the book to participate so please come be with us. Also, please

make plans to be here for our Holy Week liturgies – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter

Vigil and Easter Morning. Finally, but importantly be sure to carve out and prioritize some

time in your day to sit intentionally with God – pray. Pray in whatever way works best for

you – with words or without – sitting still or moving. All that matters is your intention, your

intention in prayer to be present with God as God is present with you.

My Lenten blessings to you,

Jon+

Hospitality Happenings

Dear Parishoners,

We have seen quite a change in our hospitality the past few months. Fewer

people have been signing up to do hospitality after 10:30 service, leaving us

with a coffee hour with just . . . coffee. At the same time, Project Canterbury

has been using our kitchen many Sundays to have dinner before they celebrate

Sunday evenings, giving our kitchen facilities lots of use. With Ray Barney as

hospitality chair, we are working on a little bit of reorganizing and restructuring.

To address the issue of people signing up, Ray will be coming and asking for

volunteers to help cook. On days when no one is available, Ray and Kelley

Mitchell will put together a light hospitality spread. To help absorb the ex-

penses of this added service, donations will be accepted for hospitality. Just

designate a check for “hospitality’ and it will go into the correct fund. If you

want to fund a hospitality but don’t feel up to the preparation, speak to Ray or

Kelley and we will prepare the foods you wish in your name.

With other churches and organizations helping to provide dinners for Project

Canterbury, it has become obvious that the kitchen is long overdue for an over-

haul. There needs to be some reorganization, labeling, and other not-so-

exciting-but-very-helpful type of changes. More to come on these changes as

time goes on.

Thanks,

Ray Barney

Call to Service - Ushers

There will be an Ushers' meeting after the

10:30AM service in the Nave, on Sunday

March 4, 2012. This should not take more

then ten minutes ( hope, hope). If you

wish to join us as an Usher you are wel-

come to attend. I know that, traditionally

this has been a male role at Christ Church,

However, if any of the ladies wishes to be-

come an usher, you are also welcome

Due to attrition created by personal schedules and membership

changes, our contingent of available ushers has been reduced. If you

wish to Usher, please contact Steve Jones at: 305-2427 or by Email

at [email protected]. For those of you interestd in joining, If you

should wish to usher every other month instead of every month, you

will still be welcome. If you are a student, and would only be avail-

able during leave or the summer, months, or only during the academic

year, we will work with you.

Dear Parents,

Lent is a time to “get right” with God. Each individual has personal ways in

which to accomplish that. As children, maybe we can complain less, help more

around the house, be kinder to our brother or sister, be nicer to classmates. As

adults, maybe we set aside more time for Scripture and prayer, forgive

grudges or slights from friends or neighbors, ask forgiveness for ourselves, fast

or give up pleasures. It’s also easy to get stuck during Lent. Sometimes we

may get stuck in the past, in the history and the events of Christ’s life, death

and resurrection. Or we can get stuck in the future of the glory yet to come.

Whatever we do, it is our sign as a Christian community of our intention to

spend six weeks preparing for Easter. It is our way to seek the “right spirit” and

let go of things that distract us from our baptismal covenant and our calling

to follow Jesus.

During Lent this year our Children’s Christian Education Program will focus on

‘Living in the Moment.’ We’ll take a practical look at what we are called to do

right now…how we can live out the life Christ has in mind for us as His for-

given and beloved followers. Make your children a part of your Lenten pro-

gram this year. Include them in your prayers and study. In the end, our living

in the moment equals living for the Lord and brings us closer to Christ, who is

the same yesterday, today and forever. After all, isn’t that what Lent is all

about – preparing ourselves for God’s Great Gift.

Thank you for bringing your children,

Danese Sizer
