key questions for Environmental efficiency
For building an environmental strategy, finding answers to the following questions is essential:
• What are the current and upcoming environmental regulations?
• How to minimize environmental footprint and comply with regulations?and comply with regulations?
• What are the latest technologies and efficient solutions in reducing emissions?
• What are the solutions with best total cost of ownership?
• How critical is it to be recognized as an environmental frontrunner?
• How to ensure minimal interruption to operations?

Definition
• Remanufacturing is the overall process of bringing a worn, used, damaged component or equipment product to an “as new” condition. Original or better lifetime is ensured and guarantee is applied.
• Reconditioning is a remanufacturing method, which is applied to single parts, usually by removing worn or damaged areas, applying new material and re-machining to final specifications.
• Renewing is a remanufacturing method, which is applied to functional • Renewing is a remanufacturing method, which is applied to functional assemblies, usually by disassembling, cleaning, replacing and/or reconditioning of single items, assembling and testing.
• Overhauling is the process applied to functional assemblies, usually by disassembling, cleaning , replacing of single items, assembling and testing. A defined service lifetime is ensured.
• Repairing is the process of temporarily recovering the function of a damaged component. The remaining lifetime is unsure and no guarantee is applied.

A Global Wärtsilä Remanufacturing Strategy
How does Remanufacturing fits in life cycle efficie ncy?
• Remanufacturing is an offering enabling most competitive TCO for our equipment products
• Remanufacturing enables lifetime extension of our equipment products, in a cost efficient manner. Remanufacturing forms an elementary part of the Service Level strategy by enabling us to offer a complete scope of services for certain older equipment products.
• Remanufacturing reduces waste, need for raw-material, energy to • Remanufacturing reduces waste, need for raw-material, energy to produce brand-new components and related emissions. It therefore reduces the total environmental footprint
