Relining a steelbore_with_stainless_spiral_tube_2003

description

When a bore collapses, instead of drilling a new expensive bore, it may be practical to reline the existing bore and commission it back to its original condition. By using stainless steel tubing to reline the bore the maximum inside diameter is maintained, often allowing the original pump to fit back down.

The Problem

Your old steel borecasing is corroding away. It has been in the ground for 10-30 years and now it is pumping sand as the casing has corroded away leaving holes for the sand aquifer to fall into the bore.

this will destroy the pump and can fill the bore with sand type materials until eventually no water will flow through, and the pump will be stuck in the bore and unable to be removed.Water is needed sooner than later to keep the grassed paddock alive.

Solution

The solution is to reline your bore with spiral welded tube manufactured to allow the maximum opening of the borecasing.

It would be beneficial to have a camera sent down the bore to see where the hole is and at what depth and how the screen is joined to the casing.

Run a piece of steel down the inside of the casing to check that the new relining casing will slide down to the correct depth.

To supply stainless steel spiral welded tube, designed and made specially to maximise the inside diameter of the casing used to reline the old bore.

The material’s wall thickness can be changed to suit the depth of the bore, in this case it was 2mm thick 304 stainless steel.

This has a bursting pressure of approx 1400 Psi and a collapse pressure of 7280 Psi, with this pressure and only a depth setting of 30M this casing will withstand what is required.

Alternatives

Other Alternatives where to use fibreglass casing, this has to be imported or manufactured, with a lead time of over 6 weeks.

Stainless steel tubing and pipe could be used, but the sizes are limited to standard sizes available.

PVC pipe could be used but again it is limited to standard sizing thus the original pump would not fit into this bore and a new smaller pump would have to be purchased, this would not deliver the quantity of water needed.

The End Result

The specialized stainless tube casing was delivered on time and successfully installed by the driller. The bore hole was commissioned by the driller and the original pump was installed successfully. When developed the bore delivered the original quantity of water as it always had.
