ADVENT AND RECONCILIATION"It is now the hour for you to wake from sleep, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed; the night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light" (Romans 13:11-12).This particular passage reminds us of the need for repentance and conversion in preparation for the coming of Christ.Advent is a perfect time to begin this journey of preparation. In order for our Advent to reach its fullest potential, it is necessary to explore deeply the endeavor of holiness that includes ongoing repentance and conversion. The penitential aspect of Advent urges us to recognize oneself as being a sinner, and therefore take the first essential step in returning to God.To make a good Confession one must:
1) Examine his conscience2) Have sincere regret for having
offended God3) Have a firm resolution to do his best to
avoid sin in the future4) Clearly confess his sins (all mortal sins,
according to kind and number, and at least some of the more significant venial sins)
5) Perform the assigned penanceIn the remaining days of this Advent season, please take advantage of the reconciliation schedule offered here at Holy Angels: Saturdays, from 4:00-5:00 p.m., Thursdays, from 7:00-8:00 p.m., and before all Sunday Masses.Growing in virtue is a life-long endeavor whose fruits will be experienced in the fullest sense only in Heaven.

CALL TO PRAYERTHIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT: GUADETE SUNDAY
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near. So says the Entrance Antiphon for today, the third Sunday of Advent, known as Gaudete Sunday from the first word in the Entrance Antiphon: Rejoice/Gaude. The Collect, too, speaks of awaiting “the joys of so great a salvation” brought about by Jesus’ birth.
It is fitting, then, to reflect on the following passage from St. John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation Familiaris Consortio, where the Holy Father speaks of the family’s role of bringing joy into the world: The Christian family has a special vocation to witness to the paschal covenant of Christ by constantly radiating the joy of love and the certainty of the hope for which it must give an account.
– Familiaris Consortio, no. 52
Join the movement!Respect Life, Marriage and Religious Liberty.
CHILDREN’S OFFERTORYENVELOPES – Foster the spirit of stewardship in our young people by picking up a box of children’s offertory envelopes located
on the tables in the back of church. By encouraging your children to share their time, talent and treasure, you keep them interested and enthusiastic about stewardship!
RCIA PREPARATION – As Advent is a time for us to grow deeper with Christ and await His arrival, so do our RCIA Candidates and Catechumens! Both Father Amberger and Father Langenkamp have been instructing our RCIA family in preparation for their entrance to the Catholic Church. Most recently, each one received a Bible selected by both priests and gifted by the Knights of Columbus. We want to express our sincere gratitude for their generous gift and support of our Brothers and Sisters in Christ! Please keep these individuals in prayer as they prepare to come home to the Catholic faith.

SAINT OF THE WEEK
ST. DOMINIC OF SILOSSt. Dominic of Silos was a Benedictine abbot and defender of the faith. He was born in Canas, Navarre, Spain, at the beginning of the 11th century. He was the son of peasants and spent time looking after his father’s flocks among the foothills of the mountains. This work encouraged a thirst for solitude in his soul and eventually he entered the Benedictines at San Millan de Ia Cogolla. King Garcia III of Navarre challenged him when he became abbot of the monastery, and Dominic refused to surrender part of the Benedictine lands to the crown. For this, he was exiled, going to King Ferdinand I of Castile and Leon, who made him abbot of St. Sebastian Abbey at Silos, now called St. Dominic. Dominic reformed the abbey, built the cloisters in Romanesque style, and started a scriptorium that became famous throughout the region. One of the most beloved saints in Spain, Dominic also rescued Christian slaves from the Moors. Dominic's shrine is noted for its place in the birth of Dominic de Guzman, the founder of the Order of Preachers. Dominic de Guzman's mother begged for a child there. Dominic was also noted for miracles of healing. The feast of St. Dominic of Silos is December 20.
