As a way of showing our love for others... Our school will be collecting non perishable food items and personal hygiene products for people in Endeavour Hills, who need our help. All donations will be distributed by the St. Vincent De Paul parish group. Please send any non perishable items to school with your child next week. These could include dried pasta, tin foods, biscuits, deodorants, soaps, shampoo, feminine hygiene products.

St Paul’s Day

This year we will be celebrating the feast of our Patron saint,

St Paul, with a live streamed Mass with Father Brendan next week.

We will confirm the day and time as soon

as possible. Father has invited 20 student

representatives from both the north and

south schools to attend the Mass. We will

share the link and further information about

the day on Monday 22nd May.

We look forward to an enjoyable day as we

remember our role model, St Paul.

Mary’s Message Thank you everyone, once again for an amazing transition back to school. Our Middle and Sen-

ior students have come back with more self assurance and a renewed and increased knowledge

of themselves as learners. As with the Junior students, our children, on the whole, seem much

more independent. They know that they have the ability to learn within themselves and that they

know when and how to ask for assistance. They are becoming true problem solvers and inde-

pendent thinkers. As a school, we value this and want to harness this independence to help our

students to set ever higher goals for themselves as well as to take their learning to another level.

We want to challenge their curiosity and their creativity as we ignite their thirst for learning.

Our academic results have risen quite dramatically over the last few years according to our last

year’s NAPLAN results and the results we ourselves keep internally. Our Maths results, in par-

ticular, are something we are very proud of. More importantly, we have achieved these results

through engaging our children in their learning. Our teachers are passionate about their teaching

and this flows to our students. We really want to capitalise on this and use the successful things

we have learnt from Remote Learning to achieve even more.

We are very aware, however, that children cannot learn to the best of their ability unless they are

mentally and emotionally well and feeling secure. I am very aware that this pandemic is still

with us and that many of our children are worried and insecure about this. Our Wellbeing Pro-

grams and all the Berry Street training our staff have undergone over the past two years will

hold us in good stead during this time. Please reach out to the school if your child is feeling anx-

ious and let us work together to support them.

Next term, the staff will undertake a series of online professional development units to support

our own wellbeing. Many staff members have worn themselves very thin over the last term sup-

porting everyone around them and we recognise that we cannot continue to support the wellbe-

ing of everyone else if we, ourselves are not at our best. “You can’t draw from an empty well”

as the saying goes. Wish us luck and chat to us about what we are learning each week. I would

also suggest that you, as parents, seek professional help if you are feeling drained from always

being the support person for others. You can’t continue to give if there is nothing left to give.

How we move forward from Remote Learning will be critical. If you feel your child is not as

engaged as you would like or if you feel they are not progressing as you had hoped, please make

an appointment to speak with me or the class teacher.

Reports should be ready to view online by the end of next week. If, however, we are not able to

get the new system up and running in time, they will be posted online during the holidays and

we will keep you informed. Parent meetings will be held at the beginning of next term and will

probably be conducted via Google Meets. Again, we will keep you informed as the restrictions

are updated from the Health Department.

Sport

If anyone is interested in participating in a virtual cross country competition, tap on the link below

from Sport Victoria for more information.

It is totally optional but if there is anyone who was upset that they missed the cross country this year,

you might like to try out.

You can set up your own course for the distance allocated for your age group and then enter your

time once it is completed.

If you want to partake, remember to make sure than an adult can supervise you and that you warm

up before you start.

Happy Running,

Ms Morgan

Library News READING AT HOME WITH YOUR CHILD IS

ALWAYS A SPECIAL TIME

Reading to and with your child can be a very special time, each day or at bedtime. Children learn to love the sound of language when they are babies even before they notice printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children helps to stimulate their imagination and expands their word vocabulary and their understanding of the world. It assists in their development of language and listening skills. Reading together creates a fun atmosphere for your child to learn in. Volunteers

Volunteers from our school community are always welcome in our library. Our new books need covering. Even just an hour or two once a week or fortnight will mean our new books can reach our the shelves quickly. We also need parents to help keep our shelves in order so that

our books are readily accessible. Please call the school or email Karen if you can help us in any way. [email protected]
