What is Religion • Religion (from O.Fr. religion "religious community," from L. religionem

(nom. religio) "respect for what is sacred, reverence for the gods,"[1] "obligation, the bond between man and the gods"[2] is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or more in general a set of beliefs explaining the existence of and giving meaning to the universe, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.[3]

What is religion Cont.• A religion is a set of beliefs that is held by a group of people.

There are many different religions, each with a different set of beliefs. The beliefs are about the world and the people in it, about how they came into being, and what their purpose is. These beliefs are often linked to "supernatural" beings such as god, a number of gods or spirits. They may also be linked to an idea such as a path that the spirit of each person should take towards goodness, truth and duty.

Why is Religion Important to People?

Lots of people debate whether or not religion is important or not. Most people use religion to cope with life.

• Some people give religion hope and something to believe in.

• Some say it helps them to be better people.• Some say it is a guide line or does and don’ts.• Because People feel that religion gives us rules

we see it so much in legal systems.

Those who believe in religion usually believe in some sort of god or spiritual being or deity. Most religions have one god or deity, but there are some that have more.Giving honour to God, the gods or the spirits is an important part of most religions. Why do people not believe in Religion?

There are a few reasons that I found out why people don’t believe in religion.

• After doing this assignment and research what I have realized is it all comes down to belief. Yes there are a lot of religions out there and yes I still believe that there is only one true religion. But why people believe in religion or not comes down to their own personal belief, experience, and culture.
