Call to Confession

Kyrie Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us arr. David N. Johnson (1922-1987)

Silent Confession

Prayer of Confession

Holy God, we carry the burdens of words said we wish we had not said; of acts done in anger or pride that we wish we could undo. We hold grudges for a long time, and we do not seek reconciliation with those from whom we are estranged. Pride consumes us, and we refuse to extend the grace you freely give. Forgive us. Forgive those words and deeds and inactions that cause you and others sorrow. Restore us, renew us, and give us the strength, courage, and love we need to be your gracious people. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

We Give Thanks to God

Invitation to Discipleship and Generosity

Offertory The Beatitudes Arvo Pärt Sanctuary Choir Section Leaders (b. 1935) Dr. Michelle Louer, Director of Music and Fine Arts [recorded February 13, 2021]

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Amen. —from Matthew 5:3-12

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer Rev. Madison M. VanVeelen

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
