If anyone has any objection, let us know. He introduced himself. Noted Tom was not in attendance. Jeff Garstka – RDC/ED Report o Went to the NC Main Street conference with Hugh Sandoe and Eric Smith(VP of RDC)

Good 4 days spent o Spoke with corporate at Zaxby’s and they are very excited to be coming o Mentioned Casino Night o Jeff also spoke on “Boot Camp”

Working with Premier Finishing on a workforce challenge

Problem with workers not knowing how to dress, interview, show up on time, etc.

Met with RCC and created a class

Taught 6 people how to write resume, how to be a productive employee

Those who finished class got an interview

Other companies are starting to see the value in this

Next class is April 5-7; room for 8 people

Judy Yarborough – o Reidsville is a certified retirement community

Great partnership with city Diane helped with certification Only 15 cities in the state like this Great marketing tool

Not targeting people going into the nursing home, targeting people with expendable income; people looking to retire in 3-5 years

Member of Month

The purpose is to identify businesses that have gone the extra mile for the Chamber and/or

the community. This is a form of highlighting our Chamber members to show our support of

the deserving business. It’s an added value benefit of being a Chamber Member. When a

business does something exceptional they are recognized for it. They will be recognized in the

News & Record Chamber page, the last Sunday of the month & are given two signs to put up

one inside and one outside of their establishment. It’s also a way to help engage members and

build their business.

History of MOM

This award originated from the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, where Denise saw

signage in a business in Mt. Airy, and thought it was something the Reidsville Chamber should

begin. Below are some examples of the criteria that we use to recognize our Chamber member

businesses.

Criteria Guidelines

• Hiring in the community

• Expanding your business

• Charitable contributions to the community

• Special participation with the Chamber

(This includes volunteering, donating times/products/services/goods, and financial

contributions – i.e. special fundraisers/programs like Leader in Me, Reidsville Business

Showcase, etc.)

Nominee:

May 2017 Member of the Month – Reidsville Event Center has been a Reidsville Chamber member

since February 2009. They are located on 223 S. Scales Street Reidsville, NC. Owner’s Bob & Myra

Tudor have truly stepped up to the plate in working with the Reidsville Chamber. They work closely

with us and the RDC on our Casino Night making this event close to perfection. Bob easily loans us

tables, cloths, and any other items that we may need in making our other Chamber events look terrific,

as well as offering his space for Chamber 101 events if needed. The Reidsville Event Center works

with hundreds of Rockingham residents on their events giving them a memorable experience. They

also host the Thursday night dances which draw a lot of people to our downtown shops and

restaurants. With limited spaces available throughout the year, the Event Center finds time to host

several no charge events for charitable organizations.

President’s Report April 2017

Building Updates:

• The HVAC is being repaired as we sent out. There will be more updates when the work is

complete.

• Tenant Update: We now have 4 tenants renting space, Suites 201-204 are filled. We have the

Vault, Suite 104 and the basement left to fill. Current total rent collected per month is $1150

Western Rockingham Chamber of Commerce Dinner:

Kayla and I attended the WRCC Dinner on Thursday March 29, 2017. We had a great time of networking

with our members and supporting the WRCC. I am hopeful the current staff will be in place for some time

and we can form a great working relationship with them.

• As a side note to this conversation, we have discussed having a joint meeting of our Exec Boards

with the Presidents of the other Chambers. Updates to follow.

RDC/City of Reidsville

• CASINO NIGHT- we had a fantastic event. Chris Reid will have a full report during the meeting. The

final numbers are not accounted for but we made approximately $6,000 which will be split with the

RDC. This was not in this year’s budget, so this is a positive!

• The City has once again requested we consider the BEER Gardens. They are willing to split half the

cost with us on the insurance for this year to see how things go. The Exec board has recommended

that the FULL BOARD approve the staff to move forward with trying to execute the steps needed.

• Jeff Garstka and I met about a guide for businesses in the City. This will be a road map that can be

handed out in Community Development, in the Chamber/Visitor Center and when we meet with

interested parties. It will have the info for all steps that they need to take for opening a business.

Chamber Champions 2017:

I am pleased to announce that as Chamber Champions is wrapping this week, we have surpassed our

goal. Currently the cash value is $52, 750 and the total w/trades is $87,250. We will have updated totals

next week.

Business Showcase Career Fair Meeting:

We had a great meeting on Friday March 21st with the Career Development Coordinators from

Rockingham, Reidsville and Morehead. We are planning for 180 students this year. We are trying to

coordinate the schools and the schedules in the most beneficial way for all parties involved.
