For those who need to find a new home for their pet, ReHome connects owners and people looking to adopt. We offer a simple and stress-free rehoming process for both people & animals, reducing rates of abandonment, pets going into shelters, and unnecessary euthanization.
Unlike other models, ReHome allows owners to easily set up a profile focused around their pet. Potential adopters can effortlessly browse pets in their area and safely schedule visits to make sure the fit is purrfect.

“I want to search for dogs in my area and be able to filter through different sizes, breeds, colors, and levels of activity.”
“I am looking for a new cat, but I have a hard time going to shelters. I wish I could schedule a home visit to make sure the cat would get along with my other animals and feel comfortable in my home.”
“I need a safe and effective way to rehome my cat. I don’t want to bring him to a shelter or post to Craigslist, but I feel like I have no other option.”
“Our baby is allergic to our dog, so we need a fast and simple way to make sure our dog goes to a safe home. Since we are so busy, we need to find people who are interested in adopting in our area.”

8USER GOALSThese are the four main goals I focused on when defining and creating ReHome. They are drawn from over ten user interviews including a wide range of age and occupation, both male and female. I noticed certain trends and pain points that came through in almost every interview, and
those became my user goals.
Goal: Wanting to find a new, safe home for a pet without having to bring it to a shelter, having to post on an unreliable website, or paying a large fee.
Solution: Post your pet on ReHome for free to find people in your area who are looking to adopt a new pet.
Goal: Knowing if an animal gets along with a pets or would be comfortable in a home. Not wanting to only see the animal in a shelter.
Solution: ReHome allows adopters to schedule a visit in their own home or a common space to ensure that pets get along and to see the animal in a real-life situation.
Goal: Finding pets that need to be adopted in the area.
Solution: ReHome uses geolocation to track a user’s whereabouts and creates a pre-populated list of both cats and dogs for the user to browse according to their location.
Goal: Flexibility when searching for a pet, not only for a breed but also different physical and behavioral characteristics.
Solution: ReHome allows filtering by breed, color, and gender, as well as traits and activity, barking, and obedience levels to help users find their perfect pet.

9USER PERSONA: REGINA REHOMER
Age: 28
Education: MFA
Location: Manhattan
Job/Income: Assistant fashion editor/70K
Comfort with tech: High
Animal Values: Loves animals, donates to charities
Hobbies: Reading, blogging, fashion
Personality Attributes: Busy, loves DIY, stubborn
Goals1. Needs to rehome dog2. Does not want to bring dog to a shelter3. Wants to find a inexpensive or free way to advertise dog.
Frustrations/Pain points1. Not finding helpful resources.2. Process adding stress; nothing to take away the stress or make it easier3. In a time crunch
Recently, Regina adopted a one year old dog, Aldo. They get are a great match, but she is being promoted, which means longer hours and more traveling.
Regina is reluctant to give up her puppy, but she won’t have time to give him the proper attention and care.
She doesn’t want to take him to a shelter, but can’t find a way to rehome him without paying 175$ for a non-guaranteed service or posting a sketchy advertisement on Craigslist.
This led her to these questions:
1. How do I re-home my dog?2. How can I prevent returning my dog to a shelter?3. What can I do to make the rehoming process better for myself and my dog?

10USER PERSONA: ADAM ADOPTER
Age: 45
Education: BS
Location: Manhattan
Job/Income: Architect/150K
Comfort with tech: High
Family Values: Large family, very close
Animal Values: Loves animals, wants a pet
Hobbies: Reading, art, fishing
Personality Attributes: Relaxed, logical, rational

Frustrations/Pain points:1. Doesn’t feel welcome at shelters2. Wants to schedule a home visit before getting a new pet3. Application process very difficult and uninformed
Adam is very interested in adopting a new pet. He has been on several apps and websites, but they haven’t been easy to navigate. He sees the same descriptions either with too much information or not enough and the process of going into the shelter to see the dogs can take an extremely long time.
Adam wants to adopt a pet that is in need of a home immediately and he wants to search for those pets in his area. He also wants the ability to schedule a home visit before committing to adopting the pet.
This led him to these questions:
1. How do I search for pets near me?2. How will I know the pet is the perfect fit?3. How do I find the particular pet that I want?

After card sorting and site map sketching, I began to sketch some wires. This allowed me to better understand how my app was going to evolve and let me explore many different ideas. It also helped me make sure I was prioritizing user goals.
Card SortingI started with card sorting to better understand the navigation and the necessary features for the MVP. This allowed me to group different concepts in order to understand what made sense together and what was unnecessary.
After card sorting, I drew up some site map sketches to begin to put together my navigation. This helped me cut down even more and understand the direction and purpose of the app.
