At the age of 35, AMY MELNYK went for a mammogram due to history of cancer in her family. Six months after a clear scan,

concerning symptoms led her back to her doctor where she was diagnosed with stage 28 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She

went through chemo, radiation, and a double mastectomy with reconstruction surgery which turned into multiple surgeries. 7 years after her original diagnosis, Amy was

struggling with headaches; in June 2017, she visted her doctor and was informed that her breast cancer returned and

metastasized to her brain as well as some lymph nodes outside of her chest wall. This news hit the Melnyk family hard, but she is feircely supported by her husband of 17 years, John, their three

children Jackson, Ella, and Josephine, and an army of family and friends.

ASHTON HAMMETT was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma on June 9, 2017. Pre-diagnosis Ashton was your normal, innocent

9-year-old boy who loved playing video games and hanging out with his friends. He always seemed more mature and wiser

than his age and his HB journey only enforces those characteristics; he is determined to make something good out of his

diagnosis and always tries to remain upbeat. Now 10, he’s ready to be healthy enough to gain back his independence, return to

school, and resume his normal activities like singing in the school choir, hanging out with his family, going perch jerking,

and throwing some hoops with his dad.

In November 2016 (at the age of 12), DYLAN GAUBERT was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma (bone cancer). He immediately began 12 weeks of intense chemotherapy on a before having surgery in March 2017 to

remove the tumor in his leg. A limb salvage surgery additional surgeries were performed in attempt to save his leg, but after 3 unsuccessful surgeries and weeks in the hospital, Dylan and

his family made the very difficult decision to amputate his right leg above the knee. He began physical therapy, started the fitting process for his prosthetic leg, and after recovering from surgery, Dylan began an 8 week series of post-surgery

chemo treatments. Now 13, Dylan is a positive, fun, life-loving child who never let cancer stop him.
