‘Stronger Together’ is the theme for this year’s Convention. It is a particularly relevant theme as the strength of the customer owned banking sector is its ability to work together – with each other and with industry partners.

This has always been true, but it has never been truer as the industry continues to evolve to meet the shifting consumer demands and a heightened

regulatory environment.

Australia’s customer owned banking sector continues to outpace the rest of the market because it is seen as a competitive alternative for millions of Australians. With growing assets, strong housing loans and deposit growth, more and more Australians are realising the benefits of customer owned banking.

Coming together is just the beginning. By working together we will achieve success.

Program OverviewThe program for COBA 2019 will consist of new and exciting speakers and topics. For the first time ever, COBA will be introducing a TEDx style talk, SPARxCOBA, where delegates from Australia’s credit unions, mutual banks and building societies will be selected to present their ideas, celebrate achievements and showcase future projects and initiatives on stage at COBA 2019.

The Emerging Leaders program will also run its 17th year at COBA 2019. The program aims to equip our future leaders with the skills, networks and opportunities to develop themselves – and make meaningful contributions to their organisations and the customer owned banking sector.

Keynote SpeakersWe are pleased to announce our Keynote Speakers for COBA 2019, all of which will inspire delegates at the Convention whilst sharing their thought-provoking ideas.

Emerging Leader Program2019 marks the 17th year that the Emerging Leader Program has formed part of the annual COBA Convention. The program aims to equip our future leaders with the skills, networks and opportunities to develop themselves – and make meaningful contributions to their organisations and the customer owned banking sector.

The Emerging Leader delegates at COBA 2019 will be offered a program focused on personal and professional development. For the first time we will commence will a full day session on Sunday, allowing some additional flexibility to attend more of the main program on Monday and Tuesday.

‘Breaking Through’Emerging Leaders are facing a changing workforce while pushing the boundaries and trying things differently. They are breaking through barriers and stigma to have their voices heard amongst other leaders. They are developing relationships and working together to ensure our sector remains relevant into the future, even if that means changing the way things have been done in the past.

Each session allows our Emerging Leaders to work with their peers and professional facilitators to enhance their own capabilities as our industry faces an increasing set of disruptive challenges and opportunities.

Some program highlights this year include: learning how to pitch your best pitch, a workshop session designed to get insights and practical tips from leaders in the sector for presenting to boards and senior executives; and the popular ‘World Café’ session, an opportunity to ask sector leaders questions in small groups, to help you progress in your career.

Delegates will leave with valuable insights into leadership and opportunities to build a diverse network of peers from across the sector and learn how to successfully navigate careers as young leaders.

Are you a future leader within your organisation? Or, do you have some future leaders amongst your staff? Consider those who might benefit from the opportunity to participate in this valuable program at COBA 2019.
