Drop Off & Pick Up Sites for Day Camp Address
Camp Canwita 2807 N. Duff Ave, Ames
Who can attend: All boys and girls entering grades 1-12 – please see each camp for specific information. Campers do not need to be Camp Fire members.
Hours: Day Camp program activities occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Extended care is offered at no additional cost, beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m.
Payment Methods: Camp Fire accepts cash, check, and credit card (except American Express). Our programs also qualify for most flex spending accounts.
Lunch and Snacks: Canwita day campers must bring a sack lunch including a drink each day. Morning and afternoon snack will be provided. At Hantesa Day Camp and Equestrian Day Camp, lunch and a morning snack are provided; afternoon snack may be purchased at the canteen. Meals will be provided for those attending Resident Camp.
Day Camp T-shirts: Each camper will receive one Camp Fire T-shirt at no cost. They are required to wear this shirt on all major field trips.
Registration Deadline: Sessions are filled on a first come, first served basis. Registrations and payments are due at least three days prior to the session your camper is attending.
Payment Information & Changing Weeks: The Camp Fire Day Camp weekly fees are listed on the following pages; you only pay for the weeks you register for! A $20 deposit for each day camp week or $100 for each overnight camp session is required with registration; Deposits are not refundable. The balance of the fee is due the Wednesday (or 3 business days) prior to the week attending. Fees may be paid with cash, a major credit card, or a check payable to Camp Fire. Any program adjustments made after 5:00pm three business days in advance will be assessed an administrative fee of $10. Program cancelations made after 5:00pm three business days in advance can not be refunded. If payment in full is not received three business days prior to the start date, the credit card on file will automatically be charged the full amount.
Scholarships: A limited amount of “campership” funding is available on a first come, first served basis. Visit our website to download the form or contact the Camp Fire Service Center for more information. This form must be submitted to the Camp Fire office with the necessary documentation (found on the application), as well as program registration; limited funding available.

Canwita Outrageous: This camp helps middle school students grow while participating in extreme activities that help them to test their boundaries and meet new friends. Summer at Outrageous is jam packed with rock climbing, target sports, paintballing and more! Grow into a leader through “outrageous” activities designed to meet the needs of this specific age group. See page 9 for more details!

Hantesa Day Camp: Campers will travel to Camp Hantesa in Boone to experience nature in full force as they participate in a true summer camp experience. This camp allows the opportunity for horse rides, camp overnights, and many other exciting traditional Camp Hantesa summer experiences. See page 10 for more details!

Equestrian Day Camp: Campers will travel to Camp Hantesa in Boone to learn about riding horses and equestrian care. Horse lovers will enjoy this camp as they spend the week learning horse science and English riding skills each morning and swimming in the afternoons. See back page for more details!

June 8-12 Slime & Grime – Pull up your sleeves and get ready for a week of fun as we worm, squirm and slime our way through this week’s activities; all the way to the Science Center of Iowa!
June 15-19 Wildlife Detectives – Investigate the wild side of nature! Set forth on an adventure guaranteed to uncover all the mystery that surrounds you in the woods!
June 22-26 Let the Games Begin – Ready, Set, Go! From frisbee golf to gaga and everything in between, there will be sports of all sorts as we get ready for an Iowa Cubs game!
June 29-July 3 Red, White, & You! – There’s going to be a party in the USA and it’s featuring Y-O-U! Let’s celebrate with a rockin’ carnival, team challenges and games, and a service learning project!
July 6-10 Pirates of Canwita Cove – Ahoy, matey! Time to hoist the sails and frolic in the briny deep as we walk the plank to plunder a treasure chest full of fun and games!
July 13-17 Nature in a Nutshell – This week we’ll explore the natural world around us by hiking, tracking, shelter building and more!
July 20-24 Creaturemania – With magnifying glasses and nets in tow, we will discover what creatures call Iowa home; including our exotic and interesting creature-friends at the Blank Park Zoo!
July 27-31 Wet, Wild, & Wacky – Get soaked in this water-filled week of slip ‘n slides and water balloons. With water being a summer must, this is one week that you don’t want to miss!
August 3-7 Incredible Adventures – Don’t miss out on one of our most popular weeks; Adventureland theme park! (Additional $20 adventureland fee)

July 27-31 Ultimate Ninja Warriors – Do you have what it takes to be the next Ninja Warrior? We’ll find out this week on the high ropes course as we prepare for a trip to Sky Zone!

equestrian day camp
Each day, campers will spend the morning at the barn and the afternoon swimming at camp. Campers will learn horse science, English riding, and barn maintenance. Each camper will be assigned a horse and will be instructed based on their riding experience. Beginners to advanced riders welcome!Riding will depend on day to day weather conditions. Staff reserve the right to remove a rider from the horse if either is in danger. Camp Hantesa provides trained horses and staff for all riding programs.**In order to participate, ALL campers are required to wear long pants, boots, and helmets. Helmets, boots, and pants are available on a limited basis.**
