In 2011, there was an estimated 298,000 people living with dementia in Australia.1 By 2050 the scale of cognitive decline will dwarf almost all other social issues facing Australia.2

Healthcare professionals need to be aware of the markers for cognitive decline, vascular dementia and Alzheimers, with dementia being the third leading cause of death in 2010. 3

You have a vital role to play in identifying at-risk patients potentially long before they need specialist intervention. Recognising the early signs and symptoms of dementia is critical for patient management, developing prevention strategies and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Timely prevention can delay the onset of cognitive decline.

Accurate diagnosis is important because many conditions have dementia-like symptoms including stroke, depression, alcoholism, infections, hormone disorders, nutritional deficiencies and brain tumours. Anxiety and depression can be a marker for increased cognitive decline with ageing.4

Join special guest Dr. Raymond Schwartz, Neurologist & Geriatrician MBBS, FRACP, PhD and naturopath Elizabeth d’Avigdor at this topical workshop for a review of current research, medications and the place for CM therapies in dementia prevention and management.
