NUTS CLASSIFICATIONNUTS CLASSIFICATION NUTS definition in Turkey(Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 2002/4720,
September 2002) 12 NUTS I, 26 NUTS II and 81 NUTS III regions
defined with the idea of effective data collection on regions to form regional
statistics, performing socio-economic analysis of the regions determining the framework of regional plans/programmes/policies, efficient implementation and analysis of regional development policies, establishing statistical databases in line with the EU Regional Statistics System
ESTABLISHMENT OF DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES
The Law on the Establishment, Coordination, and Duties of Development Agencies at NUTS II level entered into force on February 8, 2006.
Izmir Development Agency (TR31 NUTS II Region) and Çukurova Development Agency (TR62 NUTS II Region) were established with the Cabinet Decision (No. 2006/10550 and dated 6 June 2006)
Establishment of other DAs at NUTS II level would be decided by the Cabinet
(SPO)State Planning Organization would be responsible for overall coordination of DAs;
Moreover SPO would; ensure the conformity and the harmony of the
regional plans and programmes provide consultancy and guidance for agencies monitor and evaluate the implementation of
plans and programmes determine the principles and procedures
regarding the assessment of institutional performance of agencies and performance of programmes
ensure inter-agency cooperation and support joint project generation
ensure cooperation and coordination between related institutions at central level (inter-ministerial coordination)

Support projects ensuring the implementation of regional plans and programmes and to monitor & evaluate them
Contribute into the improvement of the capacity of the region concerning the rural and local development
Improve cooperation in between public sector, private sector and NGOs
Ensure effective & efficient utilization of the resources
Promote business and investment facilities of the region
Follow and coordinate centrally the permission and licence transactions and other administrative transactions of the investors
Support SMEs and new entrepreneurs in cooperation with other related institutions
Promote activities related to bilateral or multilateral international programmes

NUTS II REGIONS IN TURKEYMain territorial level for the preparation of Regional Development Plans / Programmes and establishment of the DAs
