Join through your club (recommended) or join online. Vaulters need to be AVA members to compete in AVA recognized events, but why should parents join? There are benefits such as access to the members-only parts of the AVA website and participation in AVA clinics and meetings. The other important reason to join is to keep the influcence of our Region II strong. Do you want to see more AVA events in our Region? Do you want more AVA officers/direc-tors from our Region? Your participation in the process, your votes make this possible. Also,

Don’t Forget to Renew your AVA Memberships

Phoenix Team Building ClinicMegan GroveWe had a fabulous time working with Patti Skipton at our Team Building Clinic on Saturday, December 5th, 2015. We enjoyed sipping on hot apple cider in between work-ing on the barrels and vaulting on Shamus. This was the first time working on team exercises on the horse for our new group of vaulters who started vaulting with Phoenix Vaulting Club and Equestrians In Harmony in September. Everyone had a wonderful time and it was a great early Christmas present for everyone who came.Thank you so much Patti for your help and advice from Phoenix Vaulting Club’s Megan Grove, Kristin Grove, Maite Testerman, Ruby Testerman, Maggie Grettum, Elizabeth Stephens, Isabela Hurtado, Camille Almaguer, Grace Illes, and Natalia Hurtado & from Carolyn Con-ner’s Morning Star Vaulters Iris Anselmi and Cameron Cormack! And a second HUGE thank you to the American Vaulting Association and the Grant Committee for the additional grant awarded to Phoenix Vaulting Club to help bring a new clinician to our club! This was the perfect way to end a amazing year of vaulting

Many of the local (and some non-local) vaulting VIPs enjoyed a delicious meal and entertainment provided by Adrienne’s grandchildren playing music and singing. It was a lovely evening of trips down mem-ory lane and visits with friends. Happy birthday Adrienne.Photos by Susie Bors

What Vaulting Means to the KidsMarianne RoseAbout 15 years ago a teacher brought a group of her students to me for a vaulting class. I don’t remember the ages of the youngsters - maybe 2nd through 4th grade. Our horse, Danny, and I gave them a good class and they all seemed to enjoy it. They all wrote thank you notes – and then the teacher forgot to mail the notes to me! She came across them this summer and finally mailed them. Here are some of their comments and drawings:

It was a lot of fun and a memorable experience. MollyI really enjoyed it. Don’t be surprised if I show up for another lesson. Katie

I never knew I could do so many things on a horse. ClareIt was fun. I learned a lot about horses and vaulting. Tessa

Thank you for letting us vault. I had lots of fun, both on and off the horse. I really liked vaulting and would do it again! Lillit

I may take vaulting instead of archery this year in Kennolyn. WillI was surprised that the horse was so calm even when I did a terrible jump.

Thank you again! TomokoI never knew that I could ride a horse. Neiko

I didn’t know it was that easy!!! I had lots of fun. NOT!!! Horsevaulting was actually all right. Griffin

I really liked it. It was cool how we got to choose to do it at a walk or trot but I wish we could have stood. Mea

I enjoyed it very much. I got to summer camp at Garrod Farms whire I had been vaulting before. I usually do jumping but I liked being introduced to a new equestrian sport. OndineI had a great time and learned a lot. My favorite part was when we did the windmill. Alex

I really enjoyed being on the horse, though I don’t like horses very much. It was a fun experience. I learned what it was like to be on a horse. Lauren

I learned so much in so little time. BaotiI thought it was very fun when we were on one leg and one arm. Zack

I found it fun riding and being around horses. BryanI have no idea if any of these youngsters came back for another class. It was a long time ago so I don’t remember but I thought you might enjoy these yong voices from the past. I hope the sentiments would be the same today.
